Even before my time at Berklee, I spent years striving to put myself into every musical situation possible. This gave me a multi-perspective understanding that allows me to comfortably advise students of all ages and backgrounds regarding several different instruments, styles, and theoretical concepts.

My favorite part about teaching, regardless of discipline, is the fact that it allows me to keep growing and learning while sharing my experiences to help others do the same. So whether you want to work on jazz, pop, or classical, feel free to reach out, and I will happily customize and create the learning environment that you desire!

About Ryan

I am new to TakeLessons! I am a professional pianist, vibraphonist, and percussionist. I recently graduated from Berklee, where I spent much of my time composing, arranging, and performing. I specialize in Jazz, but also frequently help people learn the arts of classical and pop music. Whether

Highly recommend Ryan!

He will take it whatever speed you like and will teach whatever you need. I have learned new things about music theory as well and he makes learning the piano interesting and engaging.

Ryan is awesome! I am a beginner, and Ryan has been so helpful teaching me the basics of notes, key signatures, rhythm, and many other components of piano and music, and we’ve even delved into some music theory. He makes learning fun and easy, and is also flexible with meeting times and can even do lessons over facetime if you can’t make it to his place. He is so talented and welcoming and will make you love piano even more than you already do.
Justin
I took jazz piano lessons with Ryan and he was a great teacher! He drilled a number of fundamentals such as jazz theory, ear training, and improvising which really helped demystify jazz piano for me. Not only does he have a wealth of musical ability, he is also a very kind and patient teacher. I highly recommend taking lessons with Ryan!

I started lessons with Bill to learn classical guitar after 5 years of self-taught electric and steel string acoustic playing. My playing has improved immensely since I started working with him. Not only has he introduced me to classical guitar but he has taught me how to effectively practice to constantly improve. Bill has a wealth of experience and knowledge to draw upon and I cannot say enough good things. A++
Charles
I have been a classical guitar student of Bill's for the past 6 months. In retirement, I have decided to take what was an "off and on" affair with the classical guitar (I'm not a beginner) and, instead, commit the necessary time and energy to truly learning the instrument. These have been my first serious classical guitar lessons. Prior to these lessons, I was entirely "self-taught" which means I created a whole bunch of bad habits for myself and was not progressing at all. Bill refers to me as a "remedial" student which I think is a perfect description of my playing. Through Bill, I have learned proper technique which, in turn, has improved my tonality and musicality with the classical guitar. Bill has identified my bad habits, broken them down, shown the proper way to overcome them and makes sure I don't "back-slide" into my bad habits again. Bill paces the lessons according to ability, not covering material that's too advanced while still ensuring that the lesson is challenging. In each lesson, Bill is positive, encouraging yet kindly critical so that I know I am making progress yet always aware of what areas I need to work on. Bill has the right "make-up" for a teacher and I am pleased, and without reservation, to give Bill a 5 star rating.
Steve
I have been a student of Bill's for almost three years. Bill's teaching is characterized by clarity of expression, high standards, patience and an upbeat and pleasant disposition. He is always clear and direct when explaining the technical aspects of playing- no matter how complex the matter at hand. He holds you (and himself) to a high standard- no shortcuts- you learn to do it right. Yet he is so pleasant to be with that every minute of every lesson is truly enjoyable. Every time I leave I am ready to practice and can't wait to return.

I excel extremely well at Music Theory. Ranging from the very basics to advanced level writing and understanding. without the knowledge of music theory you wouldn't be able to understand how to manipulate music to the you want it to sound like.

Eric Ferrer teaching style is very clear/simple/ and intuitive. He really shows you there’s simplicity in learning anything. I thought the piano was a stride i always wanted to take on. Yet with Eric the process in learning how to use both hands was so simple that I was very surprised.

I recently bought a drum set to starting how to play but coming from no experience I had no idea what I was doing. I felt sloppy and uncoordinated so I decided to try and find a teacher that can meet my schedule/expectations. That is when I stumbled upon Eric Ferrer’s profile. The lessons were soooooo Simplistic 😌 he really gave me peace of mind. Eric Broke the process into its barebones and revealed how simple it is to learn drums. I love my new teacher, he has the best patience, attitude, and commitment to you the student and the lesson.

"We had a great experience with Josh, who gave our 12 yr old daughter piano lessons for about 10 months. He was very flexible and willing to create a lesson plan that worked well for her so she remained engaged. He also had a great deal of patience, yet was also very persistent in helping her master certain concepts. I would definitely recommend him to others."

"I've studied with wonderful vocal coaches and teachers and Albert is one of the best because he cares so much about his students and gives you the attention you need to support you as a singer. He is a genuine, kind and patient teacher. He listens to whatever you are looking to do as a performer and helps to guide you and get you ready for whatever your needs may be. I have gone to Albert feeling unsure of my talents and left feeling supported and like I could do anything. He is so helpful and positive and I've seen him help so many people achieve success after working with him. I highly recommend him as a teacher and musician."

Singing Basics: Exercises for Vocal Agility

Feats of vocal agility can be breathtaking – listening to singers who can pull off the most extraordinary vocal acrobatics in any genre is thrilling, and the likes of Joyce DiDonato and Cecilia Bartoli fill concert halls and opera houses all over the world with their technical fireworks. However, there are several things that you as a singer should be looking for in terms of singing basics when training your own voice – listening to recordings may make you think that a similar level of agil …
