Students can expect to have an attentive and experienced teacher with thirty years of teaching experience who will encourage their love of music.

About Lon
I am a certified teacher who has taught, along with high school English and college English and ESL, instrumental ensemble and music appreciation classes in schools and years of individual lessons in piano, flute and saxophone. I also taught piano in Beni-Mellal, Morocco while with the Peace Corps. As a second job I played Clavinola regularly for my church for eight years, as well as accompanying the choir and performing at weddings. I also accompanied concerts and played for graduation ceremonies at the high school where I taught, and have played with professional musicians onstage. Music has been one of the great joys in my life and my purpose in teaching is to convey to the student what a joy it is. I am particularly happy to teach a number of young students here in Chicago.

*** Lesson Details ***
Levels:  Piano and flute,
beginner to intermediate. Saxophone, beginner.
In-Home Lessons: Yes
In-Studio Lessons: Yes
Ages:  6 and up
Subjects Taught: Piano, flute, saxophone, music theory
Lesson Details: Lessons in all instruments are focused not on exercises such as scales and arpeggios, but on what musicians want to be able to do: the correct and pleasurable playing of pieces of music. In this, I am not a "page turner," i.e. simply letting the student play a piece several times and then moving on. Each student has his or her own pace and I will always go with that pace; but I encourage students to achieve all they can and rejoice with them at their achievements. No piece is passed until it is mastered, but if younger students become frustrated, we leave it for a while and come back when at a higher level. There are "nuts and bolts" techniques to be learned in order to progress, but while these are being mastered the student will grow to feel more natural and accomplished as his or her ability builds.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have my own digital piano at home if the student wishes to travel.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring my own flute, but not a keyboard. I would expect the student (or parent) to buy the book, but would also have my own copy.

*** Specialties ***
I enjoy all types and periods of music, especially piano from elementary theory to rock/jazz improvisation techniques.

Lon is extremely talented, patient and thorough. He can teach absolute beginners (such as I) very well, and makes you practice till you're confident with the notes. In the meantime, he encourages you even when you think you're getting nowhere with a new, baffling instrument. He is flexible and accommodates schedule changes as needed.

I've been teaching Flute and Recorder for nearly 10 years now, and my students have gone on to achieve gold medals in their solo and ensemble contests, and place within the IMA music competition. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play a stronger, more supported sound and as time goes on you'll be able to expand your range beyond what you thought possible. I specialize in working with beginners, and have experience working with students new to braces, as well. Typically, I use the Rubank Flute Method book in addition to your school's band books. For recorders, I use various method books and pull from many additional pop song books as well. Additionally, I love to work with each student to meet his or her own personal goals. I cannot wait to meet you and get started!

About Kristin
Let's get you started on your musical path! My name is Kristin, and I cannot wait to begin this journey into music with you. I have been teaching private lessons for nearly a decade, and have taught music and choir in the classroom since 2011. I specialize in working with beginners of all ages.

Music has been my passion for my entire life. From singing to playing in band and everything in between, I ultimately achieved my degree in Music Education. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in the top ten of my class from VanderCook College of Music.

Kristin is a great teacher. She is professional and have patience in teaching little kids. She also has excellent teaching techniques and the ability to motivate. My eight-year-old developed a love of music after taking a few month of piano lessons with her and improved significantly since she would practice every day on her own.

Kristin is a great teacher for my daughter! Lenna started lessons at five and had very little attention span, bit Kristin is able to keep her focused through the lesson, and I'm amazed at how far Lenna has come in just six months of lessons.

About Daniel
Daniel, a former faculty member of Columbia College in Chicago, is a studio and live performance singer and musician based in Chicago. His teaching and performing experience spans three decades, and includes expertise in the studies of voice, guitar, piano, bass, drums, and trumpet, along with music theory, arranging, and composing. He is a Lincoln Academy Student Laureate who holds a BA in Music Composition, and has attended graduate courses in education at Roosevelt University and DePaul University in Chicago. He has taught students of all ages at private studios, public school, and college.

Daniel is described by his students as a natural teacher. He prefers to be regarded as an advancing student, and takes the journey along with his students to guide them towards their goals with a friendly, positive, efficient and productive appro
ach. He feels that music is within all of us, and a desire to learn is a sign of talent, so anyone can develop their musical abilities with methodical practice.

The musical journey for Daniel began at an early age with trumpet and piano studies which became a passion for him by the age of 14. He was the drum major of the high school marching band, and successfully completed a paid contract to arrange music for the high school jazz band which performed in a state beauty pageant. He began teaching privately after high school, and continued playing in bands, and composing original music. He formed a professional jazz ensemble under the name of the Chicago Jazz Players by the age of 22, and developed his arranging techniques while having it performed by an eighteen piece orchestra consisting of many great local artists. It was in this environment that he gained experience with brass, woodwinds, and rhythm instruments. He was granted a position at Columbia College as an instructor at age 29 where he taught theory, sight singing, musicianship, ear training, harmony, orchestration, and composition. He scored the music for several plays, and conducted his own pieces with Chicago Symphony and Lyric Opera Players. During those years he found himself playing the guitar and singing more than anything else. It was in 1995 that he focused on singing and playing the guitar with his rock band. He has produced several CD recordings of his original music in his own studio, and has helped produce local bands and artists. He performs regularly in the Chicago area.

*** Lesson Details ***
Daniel exhibits patience and care with each student, and develops an individualized approach based on clear goals with practical procedures. Most beginners can expect to have a working knowledge of music notation and how it applies to their instrument within three months, and should be developing fluency in performing music that they enjoy within six months. Advancing students will enjoy the rewards that will follow by studying with an experienced teaching musician that will recognize strengths and weaknesses, and recommend proven techniques for personal musical development. Studying music should be fun, fulfilling, and in harmony with the needs and desires of the student, and this is key to the philosophy held by Daniel.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Eight track recording gear; grand piano; guitars/bass (acoustic & electric); cables/amps, drum kit and percussion.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide lesson materials, and always have a metronome with me. I expect the student to have an instrument. I prefer that a student has a music stand.

*** Specialties ***
Customized approach to the individual based on needs and goals.

Welcome to Chicago Flute Academy! Adults, teens, and kids welcome, with all backgrounds and goals. Flexible lesson times and in-home lessons available to suit your budget and schedule.

About Jennifer
Hi, my name is Jenny, and I am a Chicago-based flutist and teacher. It's nice to "meet" you! :)

Your first trial lesson is free. I have a variety of flexible times available to suit your busy schedule and budget. I also provide in-home lessons, in order to make music more accessible to all families. I offer lessons at my studio in West Town for a reduced rate. I have a flexible make-up lesson policy - you'll always get what you pay for. I also strive to give each student their full time, even with a late arrival. Additionally, I provide consultations for choosing the flute, and often travel with my students to find the right instrument. I also offer assistance in preparing young students for school band and orchestra.

I have been told that my teaching style is fun, personalized, and demanding, while my personality is easy-going and
friendly. :) I truly want to meet the needs of each student and parent - and teach to the personality of each student. I seek to empower my students to make their own choices and keep mutual communication open and constructive with parents.

In lessons, my students play duets and solos from all eras of music, work on having great flute technique, and learn to express themselves through music.

Every year, we have a Spring recital and a handful of low key studio gatherings, so family, students, and friends can enjoy celebrating our achievements in music.

Many of my students in the past have won local festival competitions, have been featured in solo performances, and have continued to play flute for years.

I currently hold a Bachelor of Music from Northwestern University. I have experience teaching large classrooms, small sectionals, and private lessons, and have worked with over 400 students in the past 8 years. Additionally, I occasionally play flute and piccolo in Chicago City-Wide Orchestra. I also enjoy improvisation and experimental music. At the beginning of the school year, you can find me teaching flute clinics at school music programs throughout Chicago.

Come grow and learn, love music, and flute on!

------
Why do I love teaching?

Teaching is very rewarding for me. I love helping people reach their goals. I enjoy supporting local music businesses and education programs, and I'm happy to lend a hand to anyone who needs assistance. Each time I give to the music community, I feel supported in turn. For me, teaching is all about building relationships, friendships, and a community around music lovers in Chicago.

---

Thanks so much for visiting my profile! Flute on!

Sincerely,
Jenny

I worked with Jenny at After School Learning Tree in 2014 and 2015. She was my colleague and assistant at my flute studio. Throughout our time teaching together, I saw her display so much care and attention to detail in each lesson. She was always giving me new ideas. The families at our studio invest a lot in the education of their kids, and after a while people were raving to me about her coaching and instruction. Jenny has a world-class training, yet she is so down to earth. She really cares about the students and wants to connect with them on an individual level. I was blown away by her skill as a teacher, and I saw so much improvement in each student’s playing after every lesson. I would HIGHLY recommend people to study with her.

Part of my responsibility as manager of La Jolla Music is to seek out the best teachers for our lesson studio. Granted, defining “best” is as subjective as one can get when choosing a music teacher, but I naturally felt comfortable with Ms. Jenny during a part of the interview which involved her patiently teaching me how to blow into a flute headjoint.

The way she encourages and empathizes with students are assets that allow her students to have fun with the learning process and grow musically. Students and parents would regularly express enjoyment of their lessons directly to me, which further demonstrated her love and commitment as a music educator. Most importantly, Ms. Jennifer enjoys children and brings delightful excitement to each lesson. They are engaged because of her connection to each individual, regardless of age or level. I am grateful for Ms. Jennifer to have guided our students musically during her time in San Diego.

My philosophy is to help the students focus on their mental and physical states while practicing and performing. If both their body and mind are relaxed when playing, they will accomplish more and be happier with their performance!

I have been taking private flute lessons for over 12 years and have experienced many different teaching styles and philosophies. I recently began teaching my own private lessons a little over a year ago, and since then I have learned a lot about helping students progress quickly and efficiently.

Each lesson will begin with a duet so that I can evaluate the student's progress since their last lesson. We will then discuss their practicing and what the student believes is working for them and what they are struggling with. I can then address any issues or concerns that they have throughout the lesson.

Students will be asked to study technical and tonal exercises as well as repertoire. I will help the student choose pieces that are at a good level for ...

About Paul
I have my bachelors degree in sacred music, my masters degree in music performance, and my doctorate in worship studies. I am an experienced music teacher with great interpersonal skills and enjoy creating a fun and meaningful learning environment for all ages of students. I teach music theory concepts as I teach music, and I also enjoy sharing the history of music and famous composers. Students should not just learn notes, but they should also learn about the wonderful story of music I have taught private clarinet, flute, saxophone, voice, and piano lessons for many years with great success. Many of my former students write to me periodically to tell me what they are doing in music. TL;DR: Sign up now. Do it! Mr. Hoover is talented, professional, attentive, punctual, organized and effective.

I've taken music lessons my entire life, and I've had bad, mediocre, good and excellent teachers before. Mr. Hoover is excellent. It _never_ once felt like he was phoning it in or killing time-- lessons were well-structured and tailored to help me achieve my personal goals as a musician.

I'm moving away from Chicago for a new job opportunity and am sad to discontinue lessons with him, as I learned a lot in a very short amount of time. I encourage any folks at any age wishing to learn the flute to sign up.

I've been teaching flute for 10 years and I've learned how to explain things more efficiently so the student can achieve great results within shorter period of time. Within a few lessons you'll be able to create a good quality sound (and technique later) without making a lot of efforts. I structure my lessons so the students learn what they want to learn, while also keeping a correct posture and a good quality sound.

About Denys
Denys started teaching flute in 2003 while studying in conservatory of music in Lviv, Ukraine. His first teaching job was in Children's Music School and later (in 2006) in Lviv College of Music. During his studying and teaching Denys was also working in Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra as a principal flutist and later in Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater as a second flute/piccolo. From time to time Denys was having tours to Western Europe and South Korea with Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra which helped him meet a lot of other great musicians and get more experience as a musician. In 2010 Denys moved to the U.S. and the first thing he started doing here as a flutist was teaching private students. At the same time he has a lot of recitals in retirement homes, hospitals, Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art and other places in Chicago and surrounding areas

From first lesson through advanced high school students, I focus on quality of tone production and musicality.

About Hunter
My primary teaching philosophy revolves around the ideas of creativity and cooperative problem solving. I believe that all musicians should be actively training their ears as well as their abilities on their instrument. I focus on all elements of basic musicianship while incorporating improvisation and composition in an inspiring way.

I grew up playing jazz, soul, R&B, folk, reggae, ska, funk, and classical music. I feel very comfortable working within all of these genres in both performance and educational atmospheres.

Regardless of age, learning a new instrument or art form can be daunting, so I like to include some sort of entertaining activities to keep tension low and inspiration high.

While currently earning a Master's degree at Northwestern University, I have over 13 years of performance experience on the flute as well as experience teaching students of all ages. It is my goal to give each and every one of my students the appreciation, love, and understanding of the flute. I will tailor the curriculum to match the player's specific learning needs. While other resources such as books and recordings are helpful, a private teacher is able to give students primary attention to flute foundations such as posture, hand position, breathing, tone, and scales that will be transferable to repertoire and etudes. By quickly identifying problems, and teaching the appropriate ways to fix them, my students discover easier and more enjoyable music making.

About Ann
As a passionate advocate for the arts, I have been playing the flute for over 13 years. Originally from Geneva, Illinois, I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree at Northwestern University Bienen School of Music under the direction of Professor John Thorne. In May 2017, I earned a Bachelor of Music Performance from The Ohio State University studying with Katherine Borst Jones. I have participated in many competitions, festivals, and performance groups around the country such as Northwestern University's Symphonic Wind Ensemble, The Ohio State University's Symphony Orchestra, Westerville Symphony Orchestra, Opera Project Columbus, the American Wind Symphony Orchestra, and Wheaton Municipal Band among others. While being an active performer, I absolutely love teaching as well! Teaching students of all ages, I believe that nurturing a love
