Private Violin Teacher

Each lesson will be taught in response to current needs of a student but the following are the parts that make up an entire lesson:
- Technique
- Theory
- Music
- Practice
All together are basic fundamentals.

My job as a teacher is to help you find a place for music in your daily life and to make a practice time more of an experimental discovery play, than boring work. Once you find a key, it opens up a whole new world of communication.

As a private violin instructor, I believe that education is impossible without student’s motivation and passion. Perhaps you have decided to become a professional musician or maybe you want to play for your own enjoyment... Whatever your goals are, I can lead you there! Let's make it happen together because it is never late to follow a dream!

I recommend younger children travel to me for the best learning experience.

Zhana has been a great teacher so far. I just finished week 3 and I can play twinkle, twinkle little star. She is really patience.
January 30, 2019
Zhana is such a kind, thoughtful, and patient instructor! Our lessons give me the perfect balance of structure and fundamentals, along with playfulness and exploration. She is able to make the connection between the technical aspects of the basics and the musicality of a piece. Zhana regularly plays with me during our lessons, which has really helped me hear my intonation and what correction is needed. She is very understanding of the fact that I am an adult learner and do not always have the opportunity to practice as much as I like, but at the same time she is constantly encouraging me to learn more and improve my technical abilities. I would highly, highly recommend Zhana as a teacher for anyone looking for a new teacher!

We really love Zhana. Very attentive and thorough teacher. Spends a lot of time on proper technique. Always finds a way to encourage a young learner.

She has performed in world class venues such as Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Kosciuszko Foundation, as well as the Museum of Natural History, and she has performed with over thirty different chamber ensembles, including the American String Quartet and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Her career developments are primarily in music, but she also pursues interest in creative writing, journal writing and human rights. She has given many community performances and raised charity funds for organizations such as World Vision, A. G. her countless opportunities to perform, to participate in event planning, and to experiment with new music and arranging. She grew up participating in her mother's studio recitals at home and enjoys an annual family tradition of organizing and performing Christmas programs at church. One of Catherine's projects during her studies at the Manhattan School of Music was the Symposium Concert Series, which has led her to perform in apartment homes around the city and build a community of young artists. She has made countless arrangements for solo viola and viola with various ensembles which she often performs.

Catherine resides in Brooklyn, New York with her husband, Lawrence. She plays on a Raymond J. Melanson viola made in 1987.

I had a great experience because Catherine is an amazing instructor.
She taught lessons with a high degree of professionalism and care. As a novice, I was able to learn a lot because Catherine was patient and attentive to my learning style.

My two oldest children (one more advanced in piano than the other) began taking lessons with Catherine just this year. They have both shown significant improvement and love her as an instructor. They also look forward to practicing in between lessons. We could not be happier.

I'll get right to the point. Paul's personality made it extremely easy for me not only to be comfortable but to feel really appreciated. I was fearful that Paul may feel like, "oh great another person who THINKS he has something but can't sing a lick!" I experienced the exact opposite. Within 15 minutes he located what has been my most frustrating issue. I felt like I was already ahead of the game and we hadn't even started yet! Paul has the rare balance of a sense of humor and still following an agenda to meet my goal. Thanks to Paul I really feel like I can, and WILL reach all my goals. AND enjoy the journey to them!! Can't wait for the next lesson!

Bgcheck Background Checked

Private Violin Teacher

I spent many years and my degree at Berklee College of Music learning multiple genres, music theory, high level performance, songwriting, finding a purpose in life etc.

I customize each lesson to the individual student, so no 2 lessons are ever the same. Every student has different likes, needs, aspirations, goals and ways of learning, so I take all of that in to account with the music I give them and how I teach them. Every student will get the same benefits, technique, learning to read music etc., however we will do it with music and genres that most interest them so that the process is fun.

I also coach students to find their passion in life, as well as coaching them on their fears and barriers when necessary, because those can impact the rest of our life and especially now they will learn music and other things!

My goal is to inspire and empower each student through music!
