I have been teaching classical piano and music theory for last 7 years. As a student, I deeply understand the struggles, amount of patience, and constant hard work that comes with learning music. Learning piano will allow you to strengthen not only their ability to play, but also their patience. You can remain music lovers even without music lessons! As a teacher, most rewarding aspect of teaching is witnessing your reactions when you reach where they doubted.

I like to begin with warm-ups, then jump into learning something new, be it a time signature, key, technique, or composer. I like to incorporate music theory and ear training, but still keep the lesson fun, relaxed, and let the student ask questions and "play around" as well. I learned using the Alfred Basics books, and I think having a variety of music books - technique, recital, fun, and theory - gives the student a balanced approach without being overwhelming. I'm a sweet and funny lady. :)

About Tamara
Hello! My name is Tamara. I grew up in Minnesota and started taking piano and violin lessons when I was ten years old. I played in orchestra, in pits, sang in choir, acted in plays, and competed in speech competitions. After graduating from high school I went to the American Musical & Dramatic Academy in New York City to study musical theatre. I completed my BFA in Musical Theatre from Millikin University and have been acting and singing in professional productions in Chicago and Minneapolis ever since. I've also taught piano, violin, and voice lessons to private students for the past five years. I moved to LA last May with my Yorkshire terrier, Teddy. I love music and interacting with young people, and while I will encourage you in your practice and progress, I believe the most important thing is to enjoy learning and creating music.

Whether you desire traditional piano lessons, or a more simplified, progressive method tailored just for your specific needs, we can get you to the place you want to be!

I teach a simple, and broken down system of music theory and piano that is ideal for the vocalist, songwriter, and beginner or intermediate pianist to quickly grasp and apply to their practice! It is the perfect method for the vocalists/ songwriters to be able to accompany themselves using basic piano chords within the first few lessons!

If desired, I teach traditional piano lessons out of the Alfred's books for children and adults, which are wonderful tools to help cover all grounds of sight-reading, technique, scales, repertoire, and music theory. Incorporating tried and true tools like flash cards are also essential in helping students quickly and wholly memorize notes of piano along with correlating position on staff (sheet music.)

Note: Most often, I teach a combination of the two methods, and ...

Students can expect a great time learning the basics of how to make music on the piano. We'll start with basic music theory, how to make sense of the piano keys and music notation and exercises for finger dexterity like scales and arpeggios. I am totally into integrating songs and styles of music that you enjoy listening to and would like to learn how to play. I'm well versed in classical piano, jazz, pop, rock and blues. Tell me what you want to learn to play and I'll show you how to play it!

About Lynn
I have been studying voice and piano and performing on stage in various capacities since I was a small child, acting professionally on stage, in films and TV for most of my adult life. I've been blessed to study with countless music luminaries in varying genres, from jazz and classical to rock n' roll and blues.

I studied music at the university level both at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC. I received my BFA in Jazz Vocal Performance from The New School in 2008. I was given an incredible foundation in ear-training, music theory, composition, arranging and song-writing through these institutions.

My diverse music education and experience means I am able to teach music in many different styles and music of many different genres. I can accompany my students on piano a
nd help them to prepare for auditions. I can teach how to read music, to play classically on the piano, to read jazz charts, or help you figure out parts for a chord progression for a pop or rock song.

My acting training is equally many-faceted and I have an incredibly strong foundation based in the teachings of Sanford Meisner, Stanislavsky, Lee Strasberg and Larry Moss. I use the knowledge of these great teachers along with the wisdom I've accumulated from MY mentors over the years in my teaching and coaching.

Lynn is stellar. Her background and training are substantial and impressive. She is prompt, courteous, calm and absolutely wonderful with our daughter (Age 9) who has challenges focusing and staying on task. Lynn is kind, but navigates the lessons confidently, fluidly and with a focused energy. She works with our daughter's playfulness, incorporates humor and positive, encouraging energy into every lesson. Our daughter has shown signs of great improvement with Lynn. Lynn assigns tasks and practicing points each week for our daughter to work on which are balanced and also bring in a component of improvisation, which is SO helpful for kids who have challenges with focusing. Lynn is awesome, highly recommend!

Having been part of a band, Klaviam, for over 12 years, I have the technical skills and knowledge of not only the piano, but also a wide array of other instruments as well, such as the guitar, drums, and bass. My music is highly diverse as well, so I can teach my students everything from classical to heavy metal.

My foremost philosophy in teaching piano is following the student's goals and dreams, not mine. While curriculum work is certainly vital, it is far more important that my students receive help they need in accomplishing their biggest aspirations in music. Whether you want to be a music composer, rock-star, or just playing for your loved ones, I can bring you closer to that goal.

About Alec
-=Overview=-
Greetings! I am Alec Weesner! I currently tutor piano students in the Southern Orange County area, along with composing my own music for film, video-games, and multi-media. With over 15 years of piano-playing experience, and 3 years of teaching, I am able to instruct both kids and adult learners.

Music has always been my passion throughout my life. I don't think there has been a day where I haven't engaged in music in some way. Teaching others how to experience this level of passion brings me the upmost joy in my life. There is nothing I would do else than sharing my knowledge of music.

-=What is your typical process for working with a new student?=-
I will first go over with the student the days and times for our lessons. After a sufficient schedule has been laid out, I will listen to the student's needs and goals he
wants to accomplish. I will personally adjust the curriculum and session time to fit the student's requirements.

-=What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?=-
I have been a music composer for the past 3 years, part of the band Klaviam for over 12 years, and have played the piano for even longer. I have been instructed by wonderful and experienced tutors in both piano and compositional skills. I am also familiar with digital audio workstations (DAWs), and can instruct students should they want to pursue that area.

-=What types of students have you worked with?=-
Mostly 5-18 year-olds, but I have also instructed younger children, as well as adult beginners.
