Hello fellow singers! My goal is to help you refine your own unique instrument and help you to express a story and art through the voice! I grew up taking piano lessons and singing in my church and school choir. I always had a love for all classical music and soon enough fell in love with opera! I begin taking classical voice lessons at the age of 15 and soon realized that my heart and soul belonged to opera and had to continue my studies a lot more in depth. I went to UCLA where I received my Bachelor of Arts with my emphasis in Opera Performance. Throughout the years spent at UCLA, I not only continued to sing with choral groups, but also performed in every opera. I sang one of the principles roles in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges, and sang one of the principles roles in many opera scenes such as Dorabella from Così fan tutte, Mercedes in Carmen, Second Lady in The Magic Flute, Nerone in L'incorazione di Poppea. Since I graduated college I have collaborated with nationally known directors, conductors, and voice teachers such as Peter Kazaras, James Darrah, Bruce Stasyna, Juliana Gondek, and Enrique Toral. I have sang in Master Classes given by Susan Graham and Bradley Moore. I have performed roles with Astoria Music Festival, Miami Music Festival, Opera NEO, and San Diego Opera. As a teacher my job is to use my knowledge and experience to help my students learn to sing with as much ease as possible, while refining the instrument for the classical repertoire. I not only focus on technique, but also diction and artistry, because as singers we are story tellers.

I teach Singing, Broadway Singing, Country Singing, and Classical Singing in the Bel Canto style to beginners, intermediate, advanced, and touring professionals. During your first lesson I do a computer analysis of your voice, I find out what your goals are in singing, what your favorite kinds of music are, and I take you in the direction you want to go and show you how to get there in the shortest possible time. I always record my students so that they know how they sound to others. I also make a CD of them singing to background music if they wish, included in the cost of the lessons for no extra charge. Learn to sing beautifully, and most important, emotionally. Learn the parts of your vocal instrument, How each works, How they work together. Develop Breath support (80% of singing). Learn how to do the Singer's Formant, "Squillo" (that "ringing" sound of professionals). Learn how to conquer nervousness, learn Resonance, Overtones, Vibrato, How to sing high notes, Learn the "singing vowels", and more. I would rather teach singing than eat chocolate, and if you knew how much I like chocolate, you'd know my passion for teaching singing. I've been studying voice since third grade, and teaching singing for eighteen years. I've had nine singing teachers myself, so I know just how you feel. I get you comfortable, and I listen closely to what you want to do and where you want to go with your singing voice. My students learn all the important aspects of singing right away, rather than drawing them out over time. I teach all styles of singing including Pop, Blues, Classical, Rock, Jazz, Scat Singing, Belting, Country and Western, and Rap. I teach singing in English, Italian, Spanish, and German. As my singing student you'll have access to the four books I've written on singing: SING BETTER FAST: a complete but concise treatise on vocal technique (It includes a Practice CD with a free recording studio program to install into your computer); How to conquer nervousness for singers, how to get standing ovations for singers, and sing better fast 2, advanced singing.. I believe these four books are the most current and relevant works on these subjects available today. My Bachelor's and Master's Degrees are from California State University Dominguez Hills. Put your singing voice in my hands. You'll love the results.

Get Inspired to Sing in Anaheim

By Rebecca M. - Orange County Singing Teacher

As a singer, I’m always looking to expand my horizons and keep my motivation fresh by attending performances or master classes in my locale of Orange County, California. I strongly advocate for my students taking singing lessons in Anaheim to do the same; it puts them outside of the “lesson bubble” and opens their eyes to the numerous opportunities singing can afford, whether those opportunities are on the musical stage, the opera stage, an open-mic night at a bar, or a jazz nightclub. While taking singing lessons in Orange County, looking out for opportunities to both watch performances and perform will help you keep motivated to take your skills to the next level.

Here in the OC, we’re lucky to have the Orange County Performing Arts Center (OCPAC) located in downtown Costa Mesa. Broadway musicals tour through here at all times of the year, bringing shows such as Wicked, Peter Pan, and Mamma Mia. Or if opera’s more your thing, many regional Opera Companies routinely put on shows, such as Long Beach Opera, San Diego Opera, or L.A. Opera. Unfortunately, Orange County’s unique opera company, Opera Pacific, was forced to close shop last year due to hard financial times. We are eagerly awaiting its return should the economy start to rise again.

If you prefer the ambiance of a smaller venue, a myriad of clubs and restaurants offer regular open-mic nights to showcase local talent. Perq’s in Huntington Beach, The Gypsy Den in Costa Mesa, and The Copper Door in Santa Ana are just a few of the many hangouts where singers, instrumentalists, and music aficionados can come together. And don’t forget that many of these places host Karaoke as well!

Rather than only getting your vocal training and experience during your singing lessons in Anaheim, I advocate for getting out there and using your neighborhood’s performance opportunities to inspire you to sing to the best of your abilities and desires. No matter what genre you prefer, there are opportunities out there for you, new talent to be discovered, new friends, and new inspiration.
