I've been teaching singing and vocal performance for over four years. I utilize the Kodaly method for vocal performance, starting at the basic level of tonal scales (major, minor, harmonic, melodic, etc.) and Solfege application to serve as a foundational base; rhythm syllables such as "ta" and "doo". Additionally, foundational breath control is applied, as it is very important for the singer to learn how to control their breath and support their sound. From there, repertoire mimicry is applied, or what I call "phrase building," as it is important for any singer to be able to effectively create vocal phrases.

About Milton

Hey there, everyone! My name is Milton J. and I teach vocal, guitar, piano, and musical theatre lessons in the Inland Empire area. I help those young, middle-aged, and not-as-young tap into their own soul through music so that they may help others find theirs as well. I believe that in orde

We got SUPER fortunate to come across Milton as a piano teacher for our son who is diagnosed with Moderate/Severe Autism. If you are considering a special needs piano teacher, you too, lucked out finding Mr. Milton.
He is incredibly patient and calm, but firm. He has a cool vibe about him that creates a “jam session” atmosphere instead of the traditional stiff ol’ lady kind of approach. He has been great with incorporating our home and school behavior program to ensure our son is successful. He is also adaptable in how he teaches to ensure he is reaching our son that is most effective to his learning style. But most importantly he was honest with us as we began this road into special needs piano lessons. We were not sure if our son was even teachable. He was open to trying a few lessons to see if there were some foundational strengths he could work with . Mr. Milton was very articulate about what strengths he saw in our son despite his impairments that allowed us to decide to continue with investing in lessons. He wasn’t just trying get another client and take our money. We love Mr. Milton, and even on our son’s worst days , he always love to see him too.

Lessons are fun. My philosophy is that students should have music in their lives and benefit from the lessons they take now for years to come. Learning music will help students with math skills, study habits, and develop a skill that will last for a lifetime.

After 3 months students will understand the fundamentals of their voice, warm up properly, be able to read and sing introductory passages. After 6 months the student will have learned basic music theory, how to read music, and have advanced through singing multiple songs.

About Betsy

Music is the biggest passion in my life. I love being able to share that gift with my students, and look forward to their progress as much as my own. I continue to grow and develop as a musician, and love connecting with people through music. My students all learn to love and appreciate music, t

Shubha is one of the best vocal coaches I’ve ever had. She’s kind and patient and she knows how to get results. Before taking lessons with her, I was auditioning for shows using songs that weren’t the right fit for my voice. She helped me master my audition and I got the role! I’m going to continue lessons with her and I highly recommend her!

I have been doing online vocal lessons with Shubha for a short time, and it was an amazing choice!! I love to sing, but I've never been super confident in it. She helps me learn vocal warm ups that have really allowed me to expand my range and feel like I have the confidence to actually perform live. The practice has been invaluable to me and really inspiring. She's given me that nudge to say yes to singing and feel like I can accept more gigs and feel ready to perform.

"Wonderful at helping me enjoy singing with confidence!

Working with Jameson, I could see improvement in my singing after my first lesson, when he taught me some very simple techniques for better breathing. He's endlessly enthusiastic and reassuring, and I feel much, *much* more confident and less anxious than I did five months ago-- now, when I stand up to sing, I feel like I know what I'm doing enough not to worry about how it'll sound. His Alexander technique teaching is great for helping me understand how to use *all* of myself in singing, from head to heels. My friends and family have noticed excellent changes in my voice. I've recommended him to everyone I know who's looking for lessons!"

Get Inspired to Sing in Long Beach

Taking singing lessons in Long Beach is just the first step in your musical journey. To progress beyond the initial phase, it’s very helpful to explore the diverse world of music to find the right inspiration to keep you going. Whether you want to listen to live music, hang out at a concert with friends, or get out there and put your lessons to the test, here’s where you can find your musical inspiration in Long Beach.

Music and a Good Meal

The best way to progress when you’re taking singing lessons in Long Beach is to explore the rich music scene in your area. Long Beach has a great live music scene, with a number of restaurants and venues where you can enjoy dinner and entertainment.

Here are some of the best places for live music and food.

The Sky Room offers a chance to dress up and take a trip back to the past, back when people would dine and dance all night. The performers range from smooth jazz, to swing, to seven-piece orchestras.

Haskell’s Prospector also has an old-time, nostalgic vibe. They have a wide music selection which includes pop, country, and rock. If you are feeling bold, you can even join in for karaoke nights.

Gaslamp offers a fun, lively environment, and a range of different events. From ‘90s music to modern rock, this will be one of your go-to music spots in Long Beach.

Alex’s Bar has great food and a wide range of music. Sometimes they have a DJ who plays a wide variety of music like soul, Latin, and funk. They also have live shows with performers from all different genres. If you’re feeling adventurous, sign up to sing karaoke.

Live Music Venues and Festivals

Because of its central location, there are a number of music venues in and around Long Beach. If you’re looking for more live music, check the schedules at the local music venues to see if there are any concerts or events you would like to attend.

Don’t forget to check out the festivals and events going on in the area. There are regular traditional Irish music sessions, shows by the US Air Force Band, and the annual Stroll & Savor, a summer event where you can sample foods from around the world and listen to local musicians.

Practice

The music scene in Long Beach also gives you a great opportunity to put your singing lessons to the test. There are a number of places that have open mic nights and karaoke. When you’re ready, sign up to sing at a local spot, and get some practice in front of a small crowd.

Singing lessons are a great way to learn, but if you don’t get out and experience a wide range of music, you will limit how far you can go. Get out there and explore, and get inspired by all of the music Long Beach has to offer.

How to Belt Without Straining Your Voice

Curious about how to belt safely? If you flip on Top-40 radio these days, you hear a lot of belting. But just because Ariana Grande and Bruno Mars sound great belting their lungs out doesn’t mean you know how to belt without straining your voice. In fact, if you’ve ever been to a karaoke bar, or seen a pop star live, you’ve probably heard how strained and painful belting can sound. So, what is belting anyway? And is it possible to learn how to belt without straining your voice? The …
