A teacher and an activist myself, I have been teaching Spanish for over 10 years and during this time, I have seen how emphasizing cross-cultural communication has greatly helped my students' confidence in acquiring the Spanish language.

My students not only go on to make new friends, but acquire new critical views that become very useful when searching for new professional or creative opportunities.

I use a communicative approach and I highly value students' personal experiences when creating a lesson. I love to teach all ages, from beginner to advance.

About Alex

I have a Master degree in Romance Languages (Spanish and Portuguese). I use a communicative methodology, which emphasizes interaction, so you will learn in context (asking for coffee, or talking about your family), and a student centered approach, which is based in your personal goals. My class i

My language lessons are customized to my student's needs and preferences.
When teaching Spanish I don't only focus on teaching the grammar and vocabulary but also on transmitting my culture as I introduce you to Spanish literature, movies from different Spanish speaking countries and also Spanish music. After all, there's a lot more to Spanish culture than soap operas!

Teaching Spanish in New York city gives me the opportunity to create situations of Spanish immersion for you, we can always select different Spanish locations in the city to practice lesson topics such as "asking for directions", "shopping", and so forth.

About Isa

As a teacher, I'm very proactive, which means I never settle with just a book! I enjoy creating exercises and strategies according to my students' needs and preferences. This includes incorporating music, literature, movies and games to the daily lesson. As a teacher, I'm very patient and I consider

I’ve taken classes for years both online and in person, and Isa is the only Spanish teacher I’ve stayed with the whole time, which is a reflection of how highly I think of her as an instructor. As I’ve improved from a beginner to an advanced level, Isa has adjusted our classes to my level and pushed me to improve. She recognizes my weaker areas and always has a strategy to address them. Our classes consist of a balance of every day conversation or an article to read, followed by exercises to improve my fluency or increase my vocabulary. She is a native Spanish speaker, who is equally fluent in English, and is able to explain concepts in both languages. Regardless of your level, Isa will be a great instructor for you.

My lessons are very interactive. I teach using sentences and phrases that relate to your personal or professional needs. We start with a simple conversation that builds up as much as it is comfortable for you. The goal is that you can apply the material immediately. During each session, we go from conversation to reading and writing (just like when you learned your first language). I have been teaching Spanish to children and adults for over 6 years and ESL for over 10 years. Let's get started!

About Nayeli

Learn Spanish with a native speaker! My lessons are engaging and useful (watch my videos). A lesson would typically start with the oral practice of a simple phrase. First, we learn the vocabulary, think about practical uses, practice reading; and finally, writing. All classes are adapted to your goa

"I have been taking lessons from Claudia for almost four months and my experience with her has been outstanding. Claudia is an excellent teacher who takes her student's goals and truly makes them her own. When I told her that my goal was to learn Spanish to a conversational level, she described to me what I would need to do in order to obtain that goal.

Here's what I think makes Claudia unique:

* Carefully planned out teaching method. She has a carefully planned out method for teaching Spanish and uses quality materials. She has garnered the best materials and supplemented them with her own. She teaches Spanish in a logical sequence where each step includes material from the previous ones. This has helped me to reinforce the concepts I learned earlier.

* My lessons with her include a mix of grammar, speaking, and listening. It's much easier for me to understand written Spanish than to understand the spoken word or to speak it myself. Claudia makes a point in each lesson to practice speaking and listening to help with this. This has probably been the biggest help to me so far.

* She provides homework customized to my level so I can practice between sessions. Sometimes the homework is an audio recording that she has recorded herself especially for me. The fact that she does this shows how much she cares about her student's success.

* Her patience. She has to be the most patient person I've ever met. Sometimes it takes a while to get a concept or to understand, but she is always happy to repeat herself or slow down. There have been more than a few sessions where she has done this a lot!

* Her encouragement. Learning a new language can be frustrating at times but Claudia is always encouraging and celebrates even the smallest progress.

It seems like there are a lot of Spanish teachers out there who know how to speak Spanish, but I think there are very few who really know how to teach it. Obviously Claudia is a native speaker of Spanish, but she is also an expert teacher. I feel fortunate to have found her and have referred other students to her. I can't recommend her highly enough!"

Getting Inspired: Spanish Lessons in Tucson!

Taking Spanish lessons in Tucson? You're in luck, because this southwest city has no shortage of places to get inspired. Visit the following places to immerse yourself in Hispanic history, taste authentic Mexican dishes, and meet native speakers.

Barrio Anita

90 percent of the historic Hispanic neighborhood that is Barrio Anita was built in the first two decades of the 20th century, and today's residents still honor that heritage with a tiny, long-running street market that sells freshly made Mexican favorites. The Anita Street Market is famous for its fresh flour tortillas, and as you wait in line for your turn to taste their perfection, don't forget to admire the adobe walls and flat ro

...

ofs that line the streets.

Burritos, tacos, pints of homemade salsa and other authentic treats are also available here. Surrounded by Spanish architecture and the scent of authentic Mexican cuisine, it's hard not to be inspired for your Spanish lessons in Tucson. If you're interested in experiencing more of the community's history, walk a few blocks to David G. Herrera and Ramon Quiroz Park, which features a tile mural of the neighborhood's families and former leaders.

La Mesa Tortillas & Tamales

La Mesa Tortillas & Tamales is a Tucson treasure has three locations, and each one features an extensive menu of authentic, affordable Mexican food. Test your budding Spanish skills with the owner and his family, who brought their top-secret tortilla recipe with them when they immigrated to Tucson. Their handmade tortillas are good enough to get a menu all to themselves, with unique sizes, textures and ingredients to fit specific dishes. For example, their thin mesa corn tortilla is recommended for casseroles or enchiladas and their medium flour tortillas for quesadillas and burritos. You can even snack on jalapeno tortillas or pre-fried tortilla strips.

Of course, the menu also features hot tamales, quesadillas, tacos, nachos and other freshly made Mexican staples. They even offer extensive instructions for storing and heating your tortillas, and for reheating your tamales to achieve the best possible taste. Ask for the Spanish-language version to make sure it's a real learning experience.

El Charro Café

The same family has owned El Charro Café since 1922, making it the country's oldest Mexican restaurant with continuous ownership. Founder Monica Flin was a Tucson trailblazer, and not just because she was a Mexican woman who owned her own business; she was also the chef, hostess and server, and she invented the chimichanga right in the original restaurant's kitchen.

Monica's recipes came directly from the Sonoran Desert region of northern Mexico, but she integrated a variety of local ingredients and cooking traditions for a truly innovative, Tucson-style menu. Today, this fusion restaurant stays true to her original vision, and it consistently receives nationwide press coverage and top industry honors as a result.

¡Platique!

The ¡Platique!(http://www.meetup.com/Platique/) Meetup group speaks exclusively in Spanish (or en español, as organizer Lou Lampe insists you say). The goal is total immersion, but the atmosphere is casual; there are no lessons or lectures, just conversations. Supplement your Spanish lessons in Tucson by joining the conversations at weekly meetings (reuniones). Some attendees are Spanish teachers and others are native speakers, but you'll also find peers who need to brush up on their skills.

Other Ideas

Tucson is teeming with authentic Mexican cuisine, so if you've exhausted these inspirational options, try the rotating menus at Café Poca Cosa and Tucson Tamale Company, both of which use exclusively local ingredients. Guadalajara Original Grill is a larger, more festive option with live music every night, colorful Mexican murals covering every wall, and authentically dressed servers who make your salsa table-side.

Whatever your goals for Spanish lessons in Tucson are, getting out and experiencing the city’s culture should be at the top of your to-do list!

Spanish TV Shows on Netflix That Will Expedite Your Learning

One of the most common tips that Spanish teachers will tell their students is to watch shows in Spanish for listening comprehension. But what should you watch? More often than not, I find students who are learning Spanish on their own to end up watching “Narcos” or “El Señor de Los Cielos”. Although they are great shows, I wouldn’t suggest watching them for educational purposes. There are a lot of words and phrases that we should avoid using when we converse in Spanish. Especi …
