I have played guitar since age 10! I can help with basics, rhythm and leading playing in the styles of Rock, Pop, Folk, Blues, Jazz, Funk. If you have never played guitar before you will be playing your favorite songs within just a few lessons. If you have some things together I can help you take your playing to the next level with a deeper understanding of the instrument.

About Christopher

In my many years of teaching and being taught I have realized that the best teachers are those who really focus on the needs of the student and help them realize their passion for playing music. This usually involves a lesson plan which combines both technical aspects and working on songs, so that

I've taken bass lessons from Chris for about a year. He's a very skilled musician and is also very good at communicating in a way that makes concepts easier to understand. He has a laid back personality that makes lessons enjoyable but he still demands effort. Overall, I would recommend taking lessons from Chris

I have no musical background, but I thought it would be fun to learn the guitar as an adult (I'm 31). A friend recommended that I take lessons from Chris; there's no question that Chris was qualified. Overly qualified! But it's not Chris' talent that makes him an effective, influential teacher. Rather, it's his calm demeanor and clear vision of how best to teach the basics and mechanics.

It's be a blast learning from Chris. Our weekly lesson is always a highlight for me! He's as great as they get.
Katherine
I’ve done both in-home & remote lessons with Chris. Chris is a really great teacher, with a deep knowledge of music theory and technique, but also the ability to adjust that to whatever level you’re coming in at. I was a near complete beginner with a lot of anxiety about playing in front of other people when we started and Chris was able to work through that with me with a lot of humor and kindness. His agenda is to work with his students on songs they are interested in learning, and along the way weave in lessons on how notes and chords work, which I’ve really enjoyed. He also teaches bass guitar to my teenage daughter, who really enjoys her lessons and has improved greatly since they began. I highly recommend Chris.

Lessons will be based on what YOU want to learn! Together, we will articulate these goals and create a curriculum to achieve them. Lessons and practicing should be fun, and my experience of teaching many many different students taught me that structured and goal oriented practice is necessary in order to play the music you want to learn.
Your part is to bring up this effort and practice regularly.
My part is to help you learn HOW to practice and master the instrument with proper technique.

Ines has been a great teacher throughout college. Her emphasis on technique has greatly influenced how I approach guitar playing. Also, she taught me how important one's guitar tone is when playing a song the way the composer intended it to be played. It is very clear that I have improved as a guitar player while being her student and my guitar repertoire has expanded beyond just classical music.

Ines is an inspiring teacher for our nine-year old daughter. She is firm but flexible, patient, and a wonderful role model. Her breadth of performing and teaching experience allows her to choose repertory that is varied, fun, and challenging. Our daughter is always excited to have lessons with her.

Matt's a great instructor with a holistic approach to music. His experience helped shape the way I think about the guitar beyond just the technicality — teaching me to focus on concept and creative intent. His appreciation for a wide range of styles also encouraged me to explore more interesting phrasing and develop my own style.

I was a relatively aimless player and Matt showed me how to apply myself to music. Highly recommended!

Matt really helped me with my guitar playing. He patiently went over the basics with me and let me go at my own pace, using songs I like to help me improve my technique, confidence, and knowledge of scales and chords.

I am a Board Certified Music Therapist and my approach to teaching lessons is probably a little different than your typical teacher! I like to use preferred music as a positive reinforcer to engage the student.
I'm also experience in adapting music lessons for the student with special needs. I've taught students with cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD and more. I love music and I love sharing music with my students!

I teach all levels of guitar in the areas of rock, blues and jazz, but I really focus more on the musical skills need to play guitar in any style. These include a thorough chord vocabulary, experience playing rhythm guitar, and a complete progressive study of scales and their use in improvisation (lead guitar) starting with pentatonic scales and progressing to major scales, different forms of minor scales and modes. All scales are learned in multiple positions and the student learns to perform with them in any key. In every lesson the student and I play exercises and study materials together to make actual music from the materials being studied.

About Dennis

I work with students 12 years of age and up, but I am especially experienced at teaching adult students regardless of whether they are beginners or have previous guitar experience. Dennis has been a wonderful guitar teacher and mentor for me over the last 18 months or so. I am in my mid-50s and was starting essentially as a beginner when I signed up to work with Dennis. Thanks to Dennis' patient and individualized approach, I have made great strides and am pleased with how I have progressed. While he is a very accomplished guitarist, he is also a very experienced teacher. Dennis' teaching approach is not to ask the student to follow a rigid learning plan or replicate the journey he took to mastering the guitar, but rather focuses on tailoring the lessons to the student's abilities, musical interests, time constraints, learning modes, etc. The bottom line is that I enjoy working with Dennis each week and practicing what he has taught me.

The pandemic has obviously thrown a big wrench into the giving of guitar lessons. Before, Dennis was teaching me at his house. We now meet online using the Takelessons platform. Online lessons took some getting used to and are clearly not optimal, but I think Dennis has become more and more adept at making it work as well as possible.

I heartily recommend Dennis as a guitar teacher.

This was my first ever guitar lesson and I thought it was a blast. The instructor took the time to explain best practices and why they were so important. I also really enjoyed seeing the instructor's passion for the guitar and that passion made the whole experience even better!

"I meet Paul about three months ago, While not a complete beginner, I had tried to teach myself thru out the years and picked up a lot of bad habits. Paul helped me to see and fix my habits. Paul is a very qualified teacher, of many instruments, drums, keyboards, guitar, and others. I'm 59 years old, Paul doesn't mind my age, doesn't treat me like I'm too old to learn new stuff. And is more than willing to see me thru complete guitar instruction. Thanks Paul..."

"Ahmad helped me crack the code and I'm learning and playing guitar with growing confidence.
The lessons are challenging and fun and I'm inspired to practice on my own.

Ahmad's talent and experience as a guitarist, guitar teacher and performer come through in small things such as making sure your metronome is loud enough and with more important items like performance preparation strategies such as playing in front of a neighbor or co-worker.

I only wish I had started lessons sooner!"
