Experienced and enthusiastic violin teacher of almost ten years looking for students! Lessons are tailored to each student’s interests and learning style, while also developing a solid technical basis. Beginning students start out generally with the Strictly Strings method books and are supplemented by chosen songs as they progress. Most important to lessons is for the students to feel their forward momentum and enthusiasm for learning!

About Jessica
Expect fun and relaxed lessons with an emphasis from the beginning of establishing a love and appreciation for music while developing and polishing technique!

Hello! My name is Jessi H. and I received a Bachelor’s of Art in Music from Bryn Mawr College and a Master’s of Music in Theory and Composition from the University of New Mexico. Playing with other people is a great joy and throughout my schooling and afterward, I have performed in in orchestras, chamber ensembles, pit ensembles, and in collaborations with artists in other mediums. I began teaching violin lessons during my undergraduate degree and have maintained a private studio since then, which has been full of a wide variety of students and has branched out to theory and composition.

My intention in the first few weeks of lessons is to identify the goals of each studen
t and how best they learn. While familiar with most teaching methods, I prefer to modify my style of teaching to what is effective for each student. If the student is motivated by what we are playing, then skills grow exponentially faster. Students are encouraged to perform in spring and winter recitals to showcase their progress.

After three to six months, my students can expect to have a solid foundation in the subject they are studying, a start on the repertoire or subjects of their choice, and motivation to keep going!

My early childhood music education focuses the student through immersion, encouragement, small steps, and an unforced timetable for learning material based on each student's development and ability to imitate examples and internalize principles. Regular consistent practice is required and parent involvement is encouraged for younger students. Reviewing material, position, intonation, and bow techniques to always make a beautiful sound is of primary importance.

Margaret is a wonderful instructor who provides excellent teaching. I really appreciated that she made a point of not only explaining how to hold the bow, the violin, etc, but also explaining why it's important to use certain positions and posture and how it all comes together as one continues to practice. She's also super friendly and how's a very positive and welcoming demeanor.

Ahhhh....the seeet sound of the violin! I began teaching violin as part of a PTSA after school enrichment program. I taught for two years to high cap children from 2nd grade up to the 5th grade.

Our studies included theory, intonation, bow technique and rhythm.

I then began teaching privately to students and have enjoyed that for the last four years. I customize the lessons according to the student’s own apptitude.

I encourage participation in recitals to help build cinfidence and encourage personal growth. I do respect a students decline and we find other ways for self-confidence.

The best part of teaching is watching a student grow in their capabilities.

About Tudi
Tudi Campbell is a classically trained cellist and violinist, and customizes lessons to meet the needs of each student. She teaches beginning to intermediate on both cello and violin for all ages. Tudi believes in providing a strong background of music theory, intonation, and aiding the student in music notation. Tudi believes in building a solid foundation to assist students with performance skills.

Tudi believes that the cello and violin are for everyone, not just those interested in a professional career. She emphasizes the student's personal “voice” and style. Tudi believes in allowing the student to take part in choosing their own musical path. Tudi aims to make music as fun as possible while helping the student to mature in the skill of playing the cello or violin.

Tudi currently performs with the Evergreen Community Orche
stra under the direction of Dr. Marcin Paczkowski. Tudi also enjoys gardening, kayaking, sewing and reading.

I love taking the time to get to know each student on an individual level, and finding what gets them excited about making music. With over ten years of experience teaching students ages five through adulthood, I know each person learns differently and has different goals. I will work with you to come up with achievable goals, while also pushing you to discover how to play in a way unique to you!

About Kate
Musician and educator Kate Outterbridge works to meaningfully challenge the status quo in the service of engaging and uniting people through the performing arts. A dynamic violinist, fierce advocate of contemporary music and promoter of responsible and thorough music education in the city of Los Angeles and beyond, Kate performs at the forefront of today's music scene.

Currently a teaching artist with YOLA at Expo Park in Los Angeles, Kate uses a blend of Suzuki pedagogy, Creative Ability Development, and mindfulness exercises when teaching children in group and individual settings. This spring she was lucky to join YOLA students and faculty on a trip to Seoul Korea, in conjunction with the LA Philharmonic tour, to work with Korean El Sistema students. Raised as a Suzuki student herself and having received her Suzuki Book 1 certification
from former teacher Ronda Cole, Kate hopes to be able to bring music education into communities that don't historically have access to musical training, while also breathing new life into traditional string pedagogy.

Kate received her Masters of Music and Masters of Chamber Music at the University of Michigan where she studied with Aaron Berofsky in 2015, and her Bachelors of Music from Boston University in 2013, where she studied with Bayla Keyes. An active performer, Kate performs regularly in LA in venues such as Walt Disney Concert Hall, RedCat, and the Ace Theater.

While not playing her violin, Kate enjoys traveling to new places, eating dessert first, and perfecting her favorite yoga pose "shavasana."

Welcome to my violin and viola studio! I believe that every student can enjoy the process of studying an instrument, and can learn to play with ease and joy. As a result, I work to determine each student's learning style, look for ways to encourage individual ownership of learning, and adapt my approach to help meet each student’s needs and goals. I teach both Suzuki and traditional lessons, and draw from a variety of musical styles and approaches to help students develop a broad range of skills that include a strong technical foundation, ear training, sight-reading, ensemble playing, and musical self-expression. Through this approach, I hope to help students develop a lifelong love for music that will serve them in all future endeavors, musical or otherwise.
