About Jessica
Expect fun and relaxed lessons with an emphasis from the beginning of establishing a love and appreciation for music while developing and polishing technique!

Hello! My name is Jessi H. and I received a Bachelor’s of Art in Music from Bryn Mawr College and a Master’s of Music in Theory and Composition from the University of New Mexico. Playing with other people is a great joy and throughout my schooling and afterward, I have performed in in orchestras, chamber ensembles, pit ensembles, and in collaborations with artists in other mediums. I began teaching violin lessons during my undergraduate degree and have maintained a private studio since then, which has been full of a wide variety of students and has branched out to theory and composition.

My intention in the first few weeks of lessons is to identify the goals of each studen
t and how best they learn. While familiar with most teaching methods, I prefer to modify my style of teaching to what is effective for each student. If the student is motivated by what we are playing, then skills grow exponentially faster. Students are encouraged to perform in spring and winter recitals to showcase their progress.

After three to six months, my students can expect to have a solid foundation in the subject they are studying, a start on the repertoire or subjects of their choice, and motivation to keep going!

Great Knowledge

Jessica has a fantastic knowledge of the violin. Not only can she explain the theory behind music but relate it to everyday examples. She has a fun personality too; so she makes understanding and learning the pieces fun and easy. She taught me to learn more, push my boundaries, and gain confidence while playing.

About Natalie
Hello, I'm Natalie, and I am a soprano. I enjoy performing as a soloist, chamber singer, and professional chorister in the Pacific Northwest, Midwest, and Italy. I taught private voice lessons to middle school and high school students at an independent school, as well as free-lance lessons with adult singers, for my last three years in Chicago leading up to my move to Seattle recently. I also became a certified teacher in Illinois in music for K-12, including general music, band, orchestra, and chorus, which is what I used to do full time before deciding to balance my career more evenly between teaching and performing.

As a soloist, my recent performances include my Artist Diploma recital with Byron Shenkman (harpsichord) and Janet See (baroque flute), the Bach's Lunch concert series with Henry Lebedinsky (harpsichord, organ), and th
e Classical Music Nights at Cafe Racer concert series, all here in Seattle. Other significant solo performances include Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 (2015), Purcell’s Te Deum Laudamus (2014), Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer (2014), Fauré’s Requiem (2013), and Bach’s Magnificat (2012). As a chorister in 2013 I rocked it hard singing with the Rolling Stones. I received my Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in 2010 and 2015, respectively. I am a recent graduate of the Artist Diploma in Early Music program at Cornish College of the Arts.

Morgan is the best singing teacher I've ever had! She is kind, patient, understanding, and she cares a lot about vocal health. Morgan has helped me grow immensely in just a few months. My range has improved and my break is much better than it used to be. I used to have no high range at all and now I can touch a high E flat! I can't recommend her highly enough!

About Jake
I'm a contracted studio and touring musician for a major Seattle record label (Barsuk) who has 8 years of experience tutoring the arts to all ages. I’ve played hundreds of shows, and my guitar and bass playing appears on a handful of albums. Since 2009, I've been a part-time K-12 arts tutor with a nonprofit called 826 National. I've taught lots of kids, big and small, the ropes of the fretboard, the chord books, and the fundamentals of rhythm, melody, and musical hearing. I studied theatre and classical guitar at Whitman College, so I can help you improve your technical playing and performative abilities too.

As of May 2017, I'm new to TakeLessons/charging money for teaching privately, so please know how much I appreciate your patronage and audience. I know the importance of a patient, encouraging, knowledgeable teacher when learning t
he arts, and I think I can help you find strength in self-musical expression. Every person is different and every student learns differently; I think the best tutors can be flexible to their students' needs and be able to provide alternative learning solutions when roadblocks appear. We will communicate well with each other about learning goals and tactics, and we will have a LOT of fun on the guitar together! By the end of 5 lessons, I'll help you be more confident and/or versed in your guitar playing, and we'll only have lots more to learn and explore!

I continue to learn and improve my teaching by attending workshops, conferences, and be involved in music teacher groups. These are both in person, social media, and podcasts. I believe it is important to play your instrument if you teach it. My BM degree from UW-Stevens Point taught me how music is important in so many parts of life. My family of 6, includes 3 sons and 1 daughter. My youngest is a sophomore at Thomas Jefferson.

I ask that you have a well maintained instrument before signing up for lessons. ie. an acoustic piano or keyboard that has minimum 76 keys, 88 is PREFERABLE, keys need to be weighted/touch sensitive. You can ask me where are apropriate places to rent or buy a piano.

I have some supplies, materials, access to music website and books which you would then reimburse me. It is non-refundable, You may g
et lesson books from and reimburse me for costs, no tax.

Find Balance, Maintain a Healthy Instrument, and Experience Freedom to Live Truthfully in the Moment!
We sing because we have something to say; whether a professional singing on Broadway, an amateur singing in the church choir, or a hobbyist singing karaoke. I know first hand the struggle it can be to say what you need to say when your instrument (your voice) seems to be working against you. For this reason, I have made it my mission to learn everything I can about how the voice works, scientifically, in order to understand and then share with my students how we can work WITH our instruments and not against them.

Christie has been a literal godsend. I am a trained opera singer but have been struggling with nodules and edema of the vocal chords related to a thyroid condition and acid reflux and I feel like I can finally sing again. Her instruction has given me real methods for working around these issues and healing my voice. It has improved my speaking voice as well. The voice is a sensitive instrument and in the wrong hands, you can develop damaging habits. Christie is a teacher you can trust!
