Guitar lessons, or any music lessons, are about sound and understanding it in a way that is comfortable and fun for the student so that they can apply it as they wish. I don't force students to learn how to read music, in fact, I let them choose the lesson and only guide them if the lessons are not getting slowly but surely harder and more challenging in more than one way. The principle goal is for the student to understand sound, how it can work by moving your hand or just one finger, the difference that can make to the sound, and again, how to apply that sound in a musical context. This applies to both chords, lines, harmony and melody, the works. I teach Jazz Guitar Primarily, but have been playing over 15 years (guitar) and 23 years (piano). I have a wealth of knowledge of theory which I do believe to be extremely valuable, but only after the student is able to comprehend the sounds they are playing, and, of course, if they have questions. I believe lessons are an exchange ...

I've been teaching voice since 2012, and I've studied voice for over 10 years. I have primarily been trained in the Italian school of singing, which emphasizes healthy, individualized singing voices over attaining a specific "sound." My goal is to help you sing the best way that you can, not to turn you into a copy of any one singer! Breathing, posture, diction, expression, and technique are all elements of singing we will work on together.

About Tia

Tia graduated from Dordt College in 2014 with a BA in Music Performance and Pedagogy. An avid vocalist and single-reed woodwind player, she has been studying music for over 15 years with a variety of teachers, and has experience in the Jazz, Musical Theatre, Praise, and Classical styles. Tia has

Carla is a teacher who focuses on each individual student. I have observed the results of her students’ success in multiple music genres. I have studied with Carla for classical training, musical theater, jazz, and audition prep, and have seen positive results in each of these areas. Carla really works to make sure her students gain experience (she often arranges public performance opportunities at venues such as coffee shops, etc.) and she makes sure her students are aware of (and prepared for) upcoming auditions. Each lesson is followed up with an email from Carla re-capping the main points stressed in that lesson. I highly recommend Carla, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned performer.

I am a 67 yo man who had studied music eons ago. I finally admitted that I missed it and decided to take lessons for the piano. Kit has been an exceptional instructor. She is very knowledgeable and talented. She teaches by guiding me along the way at my own pace. But is not adverse to correcting my errors. She also sends me home with advice on pitfalls to avoid in my practicing. She is patient, friendly, and makes learning very enjoyable. I highly recommend her for piano lessons to students of all ages. Thank you

Anyone who can teach me the intricacies of the clarinet deserves a prize. Tyreese qualifies. Tyreese is patient, detailed, and of course, very knowledgeable. He's just very good at teaching music and I made progress that frankly surprised me. Of course I recommend him. I'm glad I had the opportunity to study clarinet with Tyreese.

I cannot recommend Timothy enough. He is a wonderful, supportive teacher who is always encouraging, even when the student feels they aren't performing their best. "I would highly recommend Bill as a flute teacher. He is a wonderful flautist, himself, in addition to being so skilled at several other instruments. Bill is very professional, kind, patient, and has always made me feel that he is interested in understanding where I would like to go, in terms of the kind of music I would like to play and the level of proficiency I am aiming to attain. I picked up my flute after 40 years of not touching it (since I was a teenager) and I'm so happy I did. Like many of the other students who have responded on this page, I have learned so much from Bill and have really enjoyed both his lessons, and my personal journey of practice and improvement as a flautist."
