About Holly
I am an enthusiastic musician with a talent for teaching. I have worked as a voice and piano teacher in Seattle for over ten years. Previously employed at The West Side Music Academy in 2003-2006, I realized my passion for individual instruction early in my career. I studied Music Education under Dr. Romana Holmes at Seattle Pacific University and furthered my knowledge in Pedagogy.

I am a huge believer in being a lifelong student! I have continued my music education throughout my adult life and have studied Jazz, Classical, Opera, Pop, Rock, Reggae, Blues, Soul, Gospel, and Folk. As a pianist I began individual instruction at age fourteen and have studied Jazz with Darius Willrich, Ryan Burns, Dan Kramlich and Mark Samson.

I began singing and playing piano at age five. I have been involved in school and community choirs includin
g The Total Experience Gospel Choir, Seattle Pacific University Women's Choir, and The Spokane Area Children's Chorus. Musical productions including Grease, Once Upon a Mattress, Chicago, and Les Miserables. I have been a featured soloist in ensembles throughout my life. I also performed in the Jazz Ensemble at Seattle Central Community College for three years as a vocalist and pianist.

I have an extensive background as a performer in small and large bands in the Seattle area. I have played in various venues throughout the area including Key Arena, Benaroya Hall, McCall Hall, Folk Life Festival, Marymoor Park, Highway 99 Blues Club, Tula's Nightclub, and the Nectar Lounge to name a few. I have also worked as a studio musician with various funk, soul, and electronic music producers and bands.

I study African dance and other forms of dance including hip-hop, house, and have traveled to Guinea, Conakry to study dance and music with Les Ballets African a premier African dance ensemble that tours the world. I also spent the summer of 2012 working with a non-profit organization in Chiapas, Mexico teaching music and dance to kids k-12 in the Indigenous Village of Ignacio Allende. More recently I have been studying and performing with Pat Wright and The Total Experience Gospel Choir since 2014.

*** Lesson Details ***
As your teacher I can help you thrive in music. I promise to provide a fun learning experience with lots of laughs and smiles. My number one goal is to help build a love and passion for music and boost student's confidence. I understand and appreciate different levels of experience and make sure to cater the lesson to the individual. Whether my students are young or old; whether they view voice or piano lessons as a just-for-fun hobby; or whether they wish to pursue a serious music career - I am happy to facilitate all of this and more, as we work together to reach their goals.

My musical foundation is one built on proper technique and strong musicianship skills. Students will learn proper posturing, breathing, and vocal production- in addition to reading and music notation, music theory and more. As students master these techniques I will work to help them bring out their own voice and creative expression. We will explore music from a variety of genres including Jazz, Classical, Pop/Rock, and more. Each of my students will be able to perform in ways that are not only healthy and technically sound but unique to them.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In the studio I have an acoustic upright piano, shakers, tambourines, and a library of music books. The studio is also used for dance lessons and has hardwood floors and mirrors. There is also a waiting room area for parents to sit and listen in during lessons.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide books, metronome, and keyboard stand. Students are expected to have a piano or keyboard.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Jazz, Classical, Pop, Rock, RnB, and Broadway style singing. I use an eclectic approach to teaching.

About Melissa
Hello and welcome to your studio!

I teach from the comfort of my home studio in the Everett/Snohomish area. My teaching style is developed specifically for each student based on their background and experience. I can help you learn to play the songs you love!

I enjoy sharing what I know with my fellow students. I have seen the impact music has on families; it unites them like a beautiful song. Some of my students take lessons along with their parents. This creates opportunities for duets and so much more. Many of my students compliment my patience and say they have learned so much in so little time.

Life with music is a journey but not only that it becomes part of your lifestyle. Being a good, dedicated student will bring so many wonderful moments and rewards as you take the journey with your instrument of choice. I have stude
nts entering talent shows, performing at assemblies, choir, open mics, musical theatre and locally for the elderly during Christmas.

About your lessons:

I host the following recitals: a Christmas and Spring recital.

Teaching Philosophy for Piano

* For the very young beginner (4-8), we will refer to Dogs and Birds, which is a wonderful book series developed in the United Kingdom that includes colorful illustrations making learning music enjoyable for the young musician.
* We will journey through Faber books and loose music material for your music studies.
* You will learn all major and minor scales.
* Other books like Bastien and Alfred will be included.
* Have fun playing songs.
* Learn to sightread.
* Ear-training development.
* Learn about technique and proper poster.
* Enjoy learning songs in classical style. Even the best jazz musicians recommend training classically before jazz.
* Learn solfege.
* For older learners you will refer to Faber studies, loose materials and Hanon drills.

Teaching Philosophy for Guitar

* The younger beginner will start with Alfred's kids guitar course.
* Learn how to read tablature and music.
* William Leavitt's Berkley guitar study.
* Learn how to play scales in the first position on your guitar.
* Build rhythm studies and cadences.
* Develop ear training and dexterity.
* Sightread chords and melodies.
* Play duets.
* Have fun playing songs.

About your instructor:

I teach piano and guitar.
I cover the Everett/Snohomish area.
Has choreographed a musical and loves to dance.
Works with special needs students.
Has studied with many professional musicians and professors.
Local Singer/Songwriter.

Melissa attended Cornish College of the Arts from 2005-2007 to earn her music composition degree. She later transferred to Trinity Lutheran College earning her Bachelor of Music degree in Music and Worship. She has been playing music since she was five years old. Melissa has been in touring bands in California, choir throughout college, community bands, open mics, gigs, musical theatre and theatre since 2005. She interned at the 5th Avenue Theatre in downtown Seattle. She was recently seen performing guitar along with one of her students in Cotton Patch Gospel. You may have also seen her as an accompanist and actor in It's A Wonderful Life, A Live Radio Play, at Warm Beach Camp's dinner theater, 2014. She's played music for residents at a retirement home, is getting ready to record her first full album and teaches music to children at Northshore Christian Academy.

I look forward to serving you as your music instructor!

About Kaley
Kaley Lane Eaton is a composer and vocalist currently based in Seattle, WA. Her work has been performed across the US and internationally, in venues ranging from Hong Kong concert halls, to the streets of Skid Row in Los Angeles. Seattle's Live Music Project calls Eaton's work "startling," "intriguing" and "enjoyable ... fresh, thoughtful and, importantly in the nova music area, pleasant on first hearing." With a background as a multi-genre vocalist, instrumentalist, and teacher, Eaton's work crosses genre boundaries, exploring how the voice, body, and unconscious world of the performer can provide musical data through electronics and improvisation. Her new electroacoustic opera, Lily, will premiere in Summer 2017, supported by 4Culture's Tech Specific program. In Spring of 2017, Eaton will be an associate artist at the Atlantic Center fo
r the Arts with master artist Derek Bermel.

In addition to her life as a performer and creator, Eaton is a seasoned teaching artist and arts education activist, having taught in socially conscious music programs around the US. She has developed and taught courses at the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Associate Composer program, Youth Orchestra Los Angeles, Boston Public Schools, Watertown Children's Theatre (Boston), Arts Corps (Seattle), Creative Music Adventures (Seattle), and the University of Washington (Seattle).

Eaton is currently a DMA candidate in composition at the University of Washington and is a Teaching Artist with the Seattle Symphony.

Great piano and voice teacher

Ms. E combined talents as an accomplished pianist and singer were a blessing for our daughter. Under her tutelage she has blossomed into a lovely musician. When she decided to take on voice as well Ms.E skillfully guided her and wisely allowed her to choose music she loved.

We miss her energy and unique abilities as a teacher to inspire a love of music. Her weekly visits were always met with great anticipation and left our daughter singing up the stairs.

Morgan is the best singing teacher I've ever had! She is kind, patient, understanding, and she cares a lot about vocal health. Morgan has helped me grow immensely in just a few months. My range has improved and my break is much better than it used to be. I used to have no high range at all and now I can touch a high E flat! I can't recommend her highly enough!

About Rachel
Music has always been a major (no pun intended) part of my life. I began learning piano at the age of 5 and continued studying classical piano into young adulthood. My favorite part about playing is being able to express myself through the music I learn and songs I write as well.

I am intuitive to the varying learning styles of different students so my teaching style is personalized to each student's individual needs.
I put a good deal of emphasis on creative music and encourage students to create their own compositions using the techniques and theory they've learned.
Most importantly, I want my students to have fun and learn to play the pieces they love!

About Laleh
I don't want to talk to you about my 20 years of piano teaching experience, the concerts I've played at, or the wide range of students that I've had the pleasure of teaching (everybody talks about that stuff - it gets a bit boring). What I do want to tell you is what I love about teaching piano and how I work with my students.

What gets me excited is when my student and I have been working on a piece for couple of weeks and after putting the right effort we start to see results. The fluid movement of the hands, picking up the tempo of the piece, and steadily following through the melody are all part of these results.

This is always the case whether we're playing Twinkle Twinkle with one of my beginner and younger students or diving into Beethoven's For Elise with some of my more advanced students. It is really energizing to see and be
part of this progress and improvement. That's what I enjoy the most from teaching piano.

I keep my classes relaxed and fun, we laugh and enjoy ourselves, but when it comes to practice and learning piano, discipline is key. What I do guarantee is that you will not get bored.

My specialty is in classical and jazz music, but I've worked on a wide variety of genres.

I look forward to hearing from you and to start our piano journey.
