Bil M. Dorchester Center, MA

About Bil

I am one of those individuals for whom teaching is just something that I have to do. I started giving music lessons sometime in the 80’s and have loved working with all levels of skill and experience. My students say that I am patient, adaptive and encouraging, committed to making music fun. I have a Masters of Music from New England Conservatory in Jazz Piano and am comfortable and fluent in a number of musical styles, including pop, rock, gospel, traditional hymnody, jazz, and R&B. Although I love and study classical music, it is not something I teach at this point. In addition to private lessons and performing, I do music transcription, workshops, and all forms of vocal and instrumental arranging. Having served as a church musician for more than 30 years, I currently co-lead ...

His method of teaching is amazing. He makes music accessible and joyful. I feel challenged without being intimidated. This experience is so valuable because of his ability to bring out the musician inside of me and to help me understand why and how to make beautiful sounds.

Bill is a remarkable teacher. After 22 years of not playing I am truly grasping music theory which is opening my ears and hands up to music in a way that I have never experienced. Bill's teaching style is mellow and exciting at the same time, he is clear with the information and can sense when I get it and when I don't. His communication relates so well to tangible examples that I am able to grasp that it is making the learning easy and fun. Bill is quick with praise and kind with corrections.I look forward to seeing him every week.
Marie-France M. Hyde Park, MA

About Marie-France

I have taught piano and voice most of my adult life. Early on I learned the need to adapt my teaching style to the uniqueness of each student, especially those whose perceptions differ widely from the general populace. I love what I do, helping each student discover and nurture their abilities, no matter what age the student may be. The Holistic Piano method is especially effective with my Autism-spectrum students, a segment of the population I find particularly rewarding to teach. The following is a quote from ex-student Karena Krull, author of "Drama Made Easy", and "Rummy Roots." “Her greatest strength is her ability to find the right direction for each individual. This ability to adapt to the student's needs lends to individual success for student and avoids their ...

She's really good. I am just a beginner and I am making progress thanks to Marie-France. She gives out homework so you can improve and she tailors each lesson to the needs of that student. I would definitely recommend her to anyone interested in pursuing music.
Brent B. Quincy, MA

About Brent

I have twenty-five years of piano playing experience and have taught privately for the past five years. Lessons will include music theory, music writing, composing (if the student is so inclined), and performance. I specialize in teaching the works of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Schumann, Schubert and Brahms. A minimum of thirty minutes a day of practice, is a must. I look forward to the opportunity to work with students and parents to provide a challenging and progressive platform. I also have years of experience teaching older adults. I teach lessons either in my North Quincy home or will travel to the student. I supply the lesson books, to be paid for by the student. My previous work includes accompaniment for singers of German Lieder, Italian Opera, Art Songs as well as choral

I am a classical singer and have had the pleasure to work with Brent as my accompanist for the past 10 years. Brent is a very proficient and insightful musician. In addition to being quickly adaptable to all types of music, he brings a depth of understanding to any given piece that is both historically insightful and poetic. He is very happy to share his insights about musical personalities and their historical context which gives the music a greater richness. He also brings that to bear in working through the poetic ideas of the pieces we've worked on. This has been one of the best aspects of working with Brent and I hope others get to enjoy this collaboration too.

Daniel U. Jamaica Plain, MA

About Daniel

I began teaching at the age of fifteen from my parents living room. By my senior year I was teaching both violin and viola lessons. I have always had a strong eagerness to help others reach their full potential. When I watch my students play I see very quick solutions that work for the problems at hand. The music is what is most important which is why I strive to help students transcend their difficulties so that the music can speak for itself. While attending the Cleveland Institute of Music for my undergraduate studies I began teaching at different high schools in the area. I began coaching chamber music at Cleveland Heights High School, coaching sectionals at Mentor High School, and teaching privately at Cleveland School of the Arts. It was a great honor for me to teach in ...

My husband and I were extremely pleased with the progress our son Thomas made with Dan. Thomas started playing last year and was progressing faster than the rest of his third grade class which is why we were looking for a private teacher to help him along. Before taking lessons with Dan I had a hard time getting Thomas to practice. Thomas has begun practicing all on his own because he has been genuinely inspired. Dan is a true professional who always on time and in a good mood to teach. He was so patient with Thomas and developed practice techniques unique to Thomas's situation. Dan is more than just a violin teacher, he is dedicated to inspiring each student to love music. Thanks Dan!!!

6 Tips for Singing and Playing the Piano at the Same Time
Artists like Billy Joel and Elton John may make it look effortless, but singing and playing the piano at the same time takes time and practice to truly master! Understandably, it’s difficult because you’re multitasking by "playing" two instruments simultaneously – your voice and the piano. It’s easy to lose concentration on one, while the other goes a little off; if you focus on your voice, you might mess up the timing with your fingers, and should you pay too much attention to the piano key
