Working towards clearly defined goals in a low-pressure, focused environment, my students reach their maximum potential quickly and with confidence. With my expertise and your dedication, we'll have fun and you'll come away from each lesson with something new to work on.

You already enjoy listening to music, now it's t
ime to enjoy making it!

***About Me***
I've appeared on recordings with dozens of rock, pop, jazz, and classical groups, and perform on a variety of instruments and styles throughout the Boston area.

I listen to and play all kinds of music from Beethoven to Stravinsky, Arcade Fire to Beyonce, James Brown to Snoop Dogg/Lion. I have had the pleasure to share the stage with rockers Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), and jazz greats Maynard Ferguson, Jimmie Lunceford, Conrad Herwig, "Blue" Lou Marini, and Jeff Coffin (Flecktones).

I've played acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, trombone, tuba, French horn, violin, cello, and string bass drums. Some of my favorite recent projects have been:
-Quilty (Pavement-style hard rock band)
-The Nevermind Orchestra (brass band that covers Nirvana tunes)
-Chill Sons (my own band for which I write songs, play guitar, and sing)
-Manhattan Symphonie (an entertaining symphony orchestra featuring soloists on piano, violin, saw, urdu, and tap shoes)

It is a treat to share music with others, and my lessons are fun, challenging, and engaging.

Thanks for stopping by to look at my profile! Let's hang out and do music things.

Chuck was terrific with both my five year old son learning to play for the first time and my more experienced husband learning to refine his skills and progress further with theory. He is excellent with children and my son keeps asking if he can come everyday.

Jill G.

Jamaica Plain, MA

About Jill

I've been in and around music all my life. I started violin at age 5, part of the first generation of Suzuki violinists in the United States. I've loved being a professional violinist and violin teacher for over 30 years! And I've also founded and directed three community music schools in Newburyport, Boston, and Manhattan.

I hold Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Violin Performance, and I'm lucky to have had wonderful experiences during my formal training! In my undergraduate years, I was awarded a full 4-year scholarship for string quartet and chamber music playing, which was invaluabl
e as a real-world training. In graduate school, I was fortunate to learn so much as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate violin students.

I have also been an innovator in musical education, and I've felt honored to coach numerous already gifted violin teachers who have sought me out to improve their techniques for best teaching practices. From my 30+ years of private violin teaching and observing how children learn, I developed a super fun groundbreaking class in New York City for 2.5 to 5 year old beginners called Crackerjack Kidz! And a few years ago, I wrote a text to accompany young students and their families.

I continuously work to be a master teacher dedicated to the very best methods, using a variety and combination of techniques and strategies tailored to the student's musical success and enjoyment.

My specialties include music-based early childhood development, adult beginners and continuing learners, intermediate and advanced players, and chamber music coaching.

I welcome you to start your family's musical journey with me!

*** Lesson Details ***
While each lesson is different, we always try to spend a little time warming up, making sure we're comfortable and free of tension, reviewing what we've worked on, and layering in new concepts each time. We also learn age appropriate music theory (the "why's" of how music works), we exercise our imaginations, and we learn how to effectively practice.

We learn to think, solve problems, hear the music in our minds, and coordinate our bodies to play beautifully! Along the way we learn skills for life, the joy of accomplishment, and love of ourselves and others!

Whether you're a toddler or a senior, violin can always teach new things and help students appreciate more about themselves and the world!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music room with keyboard and computer. Parents can sit it on lessons, and are enouraged to do so with young students.

*** Specialties ***
I'm a classically trained violinist and a master teacher with over 30 years of experience. I've been teaching Suzuki violin to children ages 3 and up for my whole career, and I'm also extremely comfortable with traditional methods for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students of any age.

My specialties include:
music-based early childhood development
adult beginners and continuing learners
intermediate and advanced players
chamber music coaching.

Out of all of my teachers that I've had over the years, Jill has given me the most thorough lessons I've ever had. Most of my teachers have focused heavily on repertoire, and ignored the basics of scales and etudes. As a result, I always found them tedious, but Jill breaks everything down into smaller pieces so I don't get bored or overwhelmed. She always comes up with new ways of working on old techniques that help me overcome old, deep-seated habits and difficulties.

Jill is a wonderful and patient teacher. She taught both of my children (ages 12 & 9) beginner violin. If we weren't moving away, we'd continue taking lessons from her for as long as we could!

Wonderful All Around

Jill Good is an amazing music teacher for all ages and can connect with any student on both an intellectual and personal level. I work for Gradoux-Matt Rare Violins LLC and can absolutely assure that the first music teacher we recommend is Jill Good. I've seen her students' recitals and have been astonished at the progress each student shows from one performance to the next.
I started playing the violin at age 4 and while I have loved all my teachers, I still wish I had someone as brilliant as Jill instructing me. For any age, Jill Good is perfection.

Drum
My official drum guru!

I started taking lessons from Rob about 2003. I have found him to be a wealth of knowledge and inspiration. Believe it or not, not every good musician can both play AND teach with competence. Rob can do both. He has vast technical skills but he also plays "music" with passion and musicality. I have also found Rob to be extremely sharing and generous beyond expectations.
What are you waiting for? Take some lessons!

!

The single most important influence on my musical career has unquestionably been the great Rob Eagan. Unlike many teachers out there, Rob teaches you how to be an all around musician and not just a drummer. He then encourages you to take your skills out into the real world by introducing you to people in your age group and beyond.

Without Rob I would not have been able to come out of my shell to pursue music in the way that I did. I cannot recommend him enough.

Daniel U.

Charleston, SC

About Daniel

I began teaching at the age of fifteen from my parents living room. By my senior year I was teaching both violin and viola lessons. I have always had a strong eagerness to help others reach their full potential. When I watch my students play I see very quick solutions that work for the problems at hand. The music is what is most important which is why I strive to help students transcend their difficulties so that the music can speak for itself.

While attending the Cleveland Institute of Music for my undergraduate studies I began teaching at different high schools in the area. I bega
n coaching chamber music at Cleveland Heights High School, coaching sectionals at Mentor High School, and teaching privately at Cleveland School of the Arts. It was a great honor for me to teach in such varied settings at a young age. These opportunities were certainly challenging, but worth the effort.

This past year I have been teaching group and private lessons at Bridge Boston Charter School. Students range in age from 6-8. This was the most challenging task for me overall. While I felt completely at home in private lessons classroom management was a new beast all together. Through much guidance and effort I can say confidently that I have sharpened my classroom management skills entirely and now I feel at home in an energetic and slightly chaotic environment.

My husband and I were extremely pleased with the progress our son Thomas made with Dan. Thomas started playing last year and was progressing faster than the rest of his third grade class which is why we were looking for a private teacher to help him along. Before taking lessons with Dan I had a hard time getting Thomas to practice. Thomas has begun practicing all on his own because he has been genuinely inspired. Dan is a true professional who always on time and in a good mood to teach. He was so patient with Thomas and developed practice techniques unique to Thomas's situation. Dan is more than just a violin teacher, he is dedicated to inspiring each student to love music. Thanks Dan!!!

I went into working with Holbrook on the recommendation of the TakeLessons staff, after a bit of trouble trying to find the right person, namely because I had set a high order — I wanted someone to essentially give me a crash course in production, somehow helping me make an actual record out of a bunch of vocal song offerings.

It worked out a million times better than I'd expected! I went in there, with my big, presumptuously tall order, and Holbrook was wonderful about doing a lot of the heavy lifting in terms of making instrumental tracks around my vocals. I explained as best I could my vision for each song, and Holbrook would try out a variety of tempos and rhythms for each — and if I felt one wasn't working, he was completely fine with giving me something more to my liking. He was also approachable, relaxed, and good at explaining basic, simple things in music production to a green beginner, and showing me how I could do many of the steps myself in the future.

I highly recommend him to anyone who wants an instructor in music production and engineering. If he could teach me, he can probably teach anyone!

If you plan on learning or furthering your guitar knowledge I highly recommend Holbrook .
I've taken lessons with other teachers in the past but I must say Holbrook is the type of teacher that figures out your learning style ( yes we all have one ) , he'll take the time to find your strength and weaknesses as to make each less as beneficial as possible . I'm very fortunate to have him as a teacher !!
