LisaJo is an incredible teacher. I was hoping to take in-person lessons, but due to the pandemic I (reluctantly) opted for online instead. All my doubts have been cast away... LisaJo's infectious enthusiasm leaps through the screen and her competencies as both a teacher and musician are evident through her ability to provide clear, creative instruction that translates directly into progress. I always look forward to my lessons - I'm learning lots but also having a great time with it :) I super recommend LisaJo if you're looking to learn violin!

LisaJo is so patient and she shows me lots of details I should pay attention to.
I highly recommend her to other students.

Best teacher ever!!!!! I went from knowing absolutely nothing about the violin to playing in the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra after 2yrs of lessons. Through our lessons together Mrs. Lisa Jo taught me technique yes, but she also taught me so much more. She instilled in me a love for music and it’s many intricacies that I will cherish forever. Truly an amazing teacher

For the past 5 years I have been teaching cello to beginner and intermediate students of all ages. I started playing when I was 15 years old, so my experience learning the fundamentals of playing cello are still fresh in my mind. This gives me an edge in my teaching when introducing the instrument to my students. I am a member of the Lone Star Philharmonic Orchestra and hold a Bachelor of Arts in Cello from Texas State University. I can help you learn not only how to play the cello, but can ensure that you have a strong handle of the basic fundamentals, note reading, and music theory as well!

About Gabriel

Hello! I'm Gabriel and I began to play the cello when I was 15 years old after watching a metal band perform with only cellos and no guitars. As I began to learn the cello and play in orchestra, I grew to love classical music! I went to school at Texas State University and received two bachelors deg

Gabriel is one of the best instructors ever. He found really interesting music for my daughters to play. He also gave them history about different composers and other background info. He taught them a lot of good techniques to help them play better. Overall, he is really inspiring and my daughters advanced a lot. He always went above and beyond. I can't recommend him enough. My daughters loved having him as their violin teacher as he helped them grow fond of music while playing their violins.

I strive to treat each student equally no matter how advance the student are. My job as a teacher is to provide students a tool in life. Students will learn the way life works through the art of music. Should the students decide to pursue music or not in the future, I only hope that students will apply what they've learned in music to their everyday problem solving.

About Johnny

Johnny received his Bachelors of Music at the University of Alabama, under the tutelage of Carlton McCreery, and a Masters of Music at The Boston Conservatory with Andrew Mark. Johnny is experienced in teaching cello. His lessons are always passionate, musical, and informative. There are several aspects of his lessons that I'd like to share.

1. Full of Content: He delivers enough details of a new technique with simplification for an easy understanding.
2. Learning Curve: By breaking down and reorganizing the knowledge, he teaches new concepts step by step, from approachable actions to efficient actions.
3. Customization: He helps you find out a suitable solution to grow on the techniques based on your own physical and cognitive characteristics.
4. Experimentation: The correct ways he suggests you do is demonstrated by experimenting with different ways for comparison, which you would not only know what to do but know the reason behind it.

Cello is a beautiful yet complicated instrument. To enjoy it, a great mentorship is necessary and truly valued.

I have over 30 years of experience teaching cello. Every student has different needs; I work with you at whatever point you are at; beginners through advanced students welcome. I have a doctorate in cello. I've played cello all my life; in recent years I have learned (and can teach) 5-string cello, as well.

I recommend lessons 30 minutes in duration for beginners, particularly children. (Adult beginners can choose 30 or 45 minutes.) Students who can play longer pieces definitely need a little longer lesson so we get through everything.

I use Suzuki books for their inexpensive repertoire but I do not teach using the Suzuki method nor do I teach rote playing. I supplement these books with technique materials from Rick Mooney (Position Pieces, Thumb Position) and studies by cellist-composers of the past. If you have an interest in another area of playing, let's talk and find pieces that interest you.

"My 8-year old has had a few lessons with Christopher and we have been very pleased. Christopher is a conscientious educator and connected with our son. He seems to have mastered the art of teaching an instrument to a beginner virtually as well. He also took the time to have a conversation with me before the lesson to understand our goals and his methods. I highly recommend him as a teacher."

"I've completed about 1 year of lessons with Carolyn, and my experience has been exceptional.

Carolyn is insightful and encouraging. She knows when to offer critical feedback and when to offer positive feedback based on her student's temperament. She also paces progress based on the student's aptitude, too.

I'd recommend Carolyn for any beginning string musician without any hesitation."

"It’s true what the other reviews say about her kindness and patience. Lenna is a warm, thoughtful and generous human being. She also happens to be a gifted teacher and skilled cellist. She is able to correct tiny details in my playing that make a huge difference in sound. Better yet, she approaches it in a way that I might be able to make those corrections for myself, by asking me what I heard first and listening to my observations. Also her approach to practice and playfulness is something I aim to use in many aspects of my life."

Popular Cello Songs for Adult Beginners

The cello is an absolutely beautiful instrument that calls countless numbers of people to play it. Adult students are sometimes the most challenging to find pieces for as they don’t want to play the “kiddie” songs that many younger students are excited about. These pieces for younger students are short, based on simple folk songs that children know, and generally do not feel challenging enough for many adult students. So what popular cello pieces are out there that adult students can u …

What Are the Names of the Cello's Parts? A Closer Look

The string family has a unique history, and a very unique look. Modern instruments have elaborate carvings adorning on the top, inlaid purfling supporting the cello’s rich sound, and beautifully stained wooden bodies. There are also internal posts and sound bars which allow the body to function as an acoustic amplifier across the cello’s wide range. If you want to know the cello parts names and how the instrument works, read on before your next cello lesson to get ready! Head and Neck Like …

What are the Hardest Cello Pieces? How to Get from Beginner to Advanced Player

As a beginner I often told myself I would know I am a really great cellist when I could play Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee at full speed. To my young ears, this simply had to be one of the hardest cello pieces with its high range, chromaticism, and famously fast tempo. As my musical career continued I worked on these and other skills to reach a point I could begin learning the piece confidently, and it was only a matter of time before I achieved my goal. Of course, this wasn’ …
