When needed, I would help friends with editing papers, and would help them understand what could be written better and why, as well as why something may have been grammatically incorrect and what could be done to change that. *This was not with a particular organization, but rather was something I volunteered to do and the students I helped gave me positive feedback.

High School

I participated in a day of service with my high school. I chose to go to an elementary school and help a first grade teacher. I was tasked with checking over student's math worksheet when they were done and helping them with any incorrect answers or any problems they were struggling with. I also sat down with each student and assessed their reading fluency. If the student was struggling over words, I would help them figure out how to say the word without telling them myself. We would start by sounding it out together, and then they would continue trying to put the word together themselves until they were able to say it. This was extremely rewarding and is something I look forward to helping students with more and more!

High School Literary Magazine

During my junior and senior years of high school I was the chief editor of my high school literary magazine. During my time as editor, I would be sent numerous pieces of writing, such as short stories, poems, etc. It was my job to edit these pieces and, on occasion, to discuss the edits with the authors and give them possible ideas for how to improve this piece of writing.
