Math Tutoring - tailored to the specific needs of individual students - Elementary to College
I love teaching math because I know what kind of difference it can make to students to succeed in the subject. Students are unique, so what each person needs to succeed in math varies person by person.
The students I've tutored have all remarked that they learned well with my help because of my approach to teaching. At the heart of that approach are four foundations: patience, kindness, knowledge and tenacity.
I have made use of these, not only in tutoring, but throughout my career as a Technical Leader in Software Engineering, mentoring team members. I found that these attributes have paid off in success again and again for me and my students and colleagues.
Patience is important because math is sometimes just hard and can take repeated efforts for a topic to be understood at all, let alone mastered. I am a patient person by nature and that comes through in my tutoring.
Kindness allows for a personal connection that opens the door to learning. Kindness says I respect you and I care about your learning.
The importance of knowledge in the subject goes without saying. I have a deep knowledge in math that is attested by both of my degrees BS and MS in Computer Science with emphases in Mathematics.
I am very confident that you will be glad to have me as your math tutor on TakeLessons.

Math has always been a friendly subject for me. It didn't always come super easy, but I was gifted with one character attribute that has paid off, always: tenacity.
'Never give up!', a mentor once said to me. Well, he said it many times, actually. I took it to heart, and I have never regretted doing so. It served me well not only in school but in a long and successful career as well.
I worked at Microsoft as a Software Engineer for more than ten years and several companies before that. I have volunteered as a tutor and coach in many capacities over the years, and I take it as a calling to instill the same sense of tenacity in my students.
As a tutor, I will tailor how I teach and how I support each student according to their skills and their knowledge and I will endeavor to do this with friendliness and tenacity.

Tom was a great tutor from elementary all the way through high school for me! He helped me comprehend math problems I didn’t think possible. He is amazing at breaking down large problems into smaller, understandable ones. Anyone would be
lucky to be tutored by him at any age or
level!

We’re so grateful for Tutor-Tom (what my kids call him). We have twin boys who both needed additional support in the math department. Tom was able to simplify the process and communicate it in a way that BOTH of them could understand. Tom took so much stress off us as parents which is invaluable!!

Tom is just the best! He helped my daughter with her math and successfully got her out of intervention and excelling. He was prompt, kind, and offered individualized lessons. I will recommend Tom to everyone I know.
