Math with Sylvia S.

After realizing that engineering was not for me, I completed a BS and MS in Mathematics along with a MA in Secondary Education. I was a high school math teacher for 14 years and a math professor at Lone Star College System for 14 years. My strong belief in education was instilled by my mother and her quote that “education is one thing that cannot be taken from you once you’ve earned it”. My continual motivation for education and educating others is found in inspirational quotes, such as Nelson Mandela’s quote “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I enjoy the outdoors and learning new things for my teaching practice and personal enrichment. I have two adult children and have been married to my husband for more than 30 years.
