About Gavin M.

Throughout my over three years of tutoring, I have worked with students both online and in-person at the high school and college level to help them be successful in a variety of classes, most of which are math and science-based. My pedagogy is primarily focused on fostering students' subject confidence and creating a supportive learning environment by building rapport and encouraging them to actively engage in the course material with me. While tutoring I take a student-centered approach where I serve as a guide and mentor and blend this with direct instruction. I'm highly knowledgeable about the learning goals and content of the classes I tutor. Besides the math and writing portions of the SAT, I've tutored AP Calculus AB/BC, AP Physics 1/2/C (mechanics and E/M), college Calculus I/II, Algebra I, AP German, and most recently, Calculus III. In addition, I have taken each of these courses myself and am familiar with the struggles associated with each one. While tutoring at Walled Lake Northern, I taught a variety of the above classes. I gained experience in writing progress reports for parents to summarize the improvements students made during the sessions. More recently, I tutored Algebra I virtually at Littera Education using prepared lesson plans. Here I got to support high schoolers with helpful study habits and exam strategies. Furthermore, I've had the opportunity to tutor students through my university as well on an as-needed basis, usually in Calc I/II. When I'm not tutoring, I love to play my instruments, code, and go on hikes. I also read a lot and enjoy video games sometimes. I hope to work with you soon!
