About Sarah M.
Hello and Welcome!
(NOTE I LOWERED MY PRICES - COVID19 is causing many of us to struggle, but while we are stuck at home we might as well learn something fun!!)
My name is Sarah and I am honored you have chosen to look at my profile. Finding the right teacher is so important! I always try to make sure that I accommodate what is best for each individual student when I approach teaching. Before we get into my teach methods, let me tell you a bit about myself and my background.
I graduated from Lees-McRae College in May 2017 with a BFA in musical theater and a minor in art and design. I know at a glance it may be overwhelming how many classes I teach. You see, as Musical Theatre Major I had to learn a VAST amount of topics. I studied many forms of dance, took advance makeup courses, vocal training, acting, along with all of the sub categories that go with it; not to mention with my minor in art and design I know my way around with a paint brush/camera/computer. Art, in all forms are has always been my way of expressing, feeling, and embracing life.
When I had my internship at the Arkansas Arts Center Children's Theatre and I had to learn ALL aspects of theatre and I had the pleasure to work with kids every day.
Currently I am a NYC actor with an agent and I am pursuing my dreams - while I do this I also like to help people on their journey and passion as much as I can!
I was training American Sign Language at Northern Virginia Community College back in 2012. In 2015 I studied under an ASL master from Gallaudet University. I have continued to further my knowledge of ASL every day. I was recently the ASL captain at work who helped make sure all signs were done correctly and expressed properly.
My goal is to help you learn what you are craving to know! I try to not charge too high for lessons, I know that this is something that is for fun and is not always a possibility so I try to keep it at a lowish price so that everyone has a chance to learn. I am very flexible to schedules. I am willing to have a regular time or switching it up weekly; I have students who travel for a living so they are always on a different time zone; no matter the obstacle I will make it work for you!
Something that is great to know about me is that I never stop training, pursuing growth and knowledge. I read books in these various fields to learn more and more, take master classes, and train with my own vocal coaches. I think art - on any platform, is a great way to get out of your head, free your mind, and open up yourself. So this can be for professional training, a hobby you always wanted to pursue, or a dream you wanted to chase after.
In my class with you, or you child, I will make an individualized lesson plan that focus around what skills you already have, what skills you aim to improve/gain, and how you learn. I am very familiar with the fact that we are ALL different, which means we will all learn DIFFERENTLY. I am willing to explain something in as many ways as one needs in order to understand. I like to think of my lessons as a “safe place” to explore, have fun, grow, and be okay with making mistakes. We will always start with the basics, understand the core of the craft - for example in singing that would be our vocal anatomy and how it all connects together. I use props to help make the concept more visual and graspable as well as diagrams. This is not something someone will pick up in one lesson, so don’t come in saying “I can’t”, you can, you just have to learn HOW. I will show you the how. Remember, this is a learning process, we must embrace each step of our growth.
-----
Some background of how I came to do what I do:
I have been working professionally in theatre for seven years now; which has had me living in various states (NC, OH, AR, and traveling nationwide for tours.) I have a lot of experience under my belt for my years. I began taking performance classes as young as age 2 when I started ballet, then I began singing in choir in third grade. I started being in awe of sign language when I saw an interpreter working her magic around age ten and I asked my mom for a sign language book. Expanding my knowledge is what I do for fun, so when you pick me you pick someone who is constantly growing and learning more which will ultimately benefit the student.
I teach a variety of classes that, for the most part, circle around the arts! Some of my classes include, but are not limited to: Acting, Child Acting, Improv Audition Prep, Various styles of “Singing” classes, Ear Training, Musical Theatre, Music Performance, Various “Art” classes, Facial Exercises (Which is great for singers, and those who speak a lot day to day to help relieve tension in the face), and more!
If you want to know anything more please do not hesitate to send me a message and I will respond as quickly as I possibly can!
Also feel free to view the videos I uploaded to my profile that corresponds to the class you are interested in!

ughhh the best teacher ever ✨♥️✨

perfect ♥️♥️👌

Sarah took my completely overwhelmed daughter, who is struggling with her college ASL class vocabulary, and calmed her, reassured her, and helped her more thoroughly understand her signs. That was just after one 45-minute session. I’m excited to see where this leads, as she has already helped so much!

Very kind and helpful!!!

she encourages me to learn

i love it

i loved it

Sarah was excellent to work with. Very pleasant, and enjoyable.

wonderfull

i loved it .

She is really a huge help with learning ASL!

Sarah is a great teacher! I am currently learning poetry from her with a line I already had. She helped me one by one with each line to get my point across. I am excited how the final product of this poem will look like!

I enjoy Sarah's enthusiasm and willingness to teach and old dog new tricks!

Sarah is a very patient and easy to understand instructor. She was helpful in getting her point across by changing her position.
She's very personable and enjoyable to talk to as well. Thank you, Sarah!

learning dance with sarah is awesome! She totally caters her teaching to the particular student and is super friendly, supportive, and understanding with everything!

Excellent lessons with instruction from an experienced instructor. Easy to talk to and ask advice from, she provides energy and enthusiasm to each class (even when exhausted)!

Sarah is professional, personable and patient. She helps me troubleshoot any technical mishap on my end to proceed with our lesson. She is always on time for our session and beyond the voice exercises, Sarah answers my questions about the connection between our anatomy and voice. She is attentive and gives me valuable insight. I felt immediately confident about my voice after one session.

I was really hopeful with seeing the videos and how she explained herself as an instructor on her profile.
sadly after the first lesson I was still a little hopeful but she showed up almost 15 minutes late to the lesson. With my daughter sitting there nervous and not knowing what's going on. this was not good. 😡
but not a big deal. So I was totally fine about that. The instructor did alright but was somewhat rude and negative and created awkward silences during this lesson. 😡 still not good but i was forgiving.
The second lesson she didnt even show up!! 😡😡😡
so she was sitting there for like 30 minutes trying to figure whats going on. not ok!!
i recommend this instructor to nobody!!!
beware of her because she seems nice but then will be rude and negative in the lesson.

Professional, incredibly informative, and motivating! Only issue was the connection, which was completely beyond the instructor’s control.

She is very kind and a very nice teacher. I learned a lot each class.

My Daughter loved Sarah, she was more than helpful even as she journeyed from AZ to NJ, awesome that she took the time to pull over and give a class

She is really nice. In our first lesson, she was quick to try and help me relax and open up. She was able to immediately give me some ideas to think on and pointed out some diction issues for me to focus on fixing. She also gave me some exercises to do on my own to help with discovering the ranges of voice i am capable of.

She loved her first lesson!

She is kind, patient, and really really accommodating. She knows a lot and can structure the lessons for a beginner or someone with more experience. I Highly recommend Sarah as an instructor! :)

Sarah customized the lessons to meet my goals. Can’t wait for next lesson.

did a great job. showed me also about mouth and sound coordination with the puppet that i was not aware of.

Sarah is a great teacher and she makes learning ASL a lot of fun!

I love to start a the day with my English lessons with Sarah!

First lesson and I'm blown away! Sarah put me to work -in the best way possible. She showed me that there is such a deeper level to go to in order to get the performance that I want. I've got a ton of homework and I'm excited to get started!

My son had his first Vocal Training class with Sarah. It was a great experience. Sarah has an amazing voice and is very experienced in the way she deals with kids.. My son is looking forward to his next class. Thanks Takelessons for creating this great platform.

Sarah's teaching style is wonderful because she pays a lot of attention to detail and has a wide range of different exercises and tips to improve. Cheerful and engaging, Sarah made learning to sing an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Sarah is a very experienced instructor with a variety of creative methods to get you into the flow of learning, and there is ALOT to be learned. Expect novelty in each and every session. Mind you, she is about her business, but it's definitely a good experience overall.

An amazing teacher, really helped me to pick up on things I was doing wrong that I wasn't even aware I was doing. Does a great job of reinforcing the things I do well and building up the things I need to work on, even when I'm a bit slow at getting exactly what's needed. Also a really friendly person and comfortable to work with

Getting started... learned a lot.

Ready for more!

Great instructor!

Sarah was very patient with my shyness and gave me a lot of information and great exercises.

Sarah was absolutely wonderful to work with. She is very knowledgeable and a great instructor . She was able to help me relax while singing, project my voice and with my pronunciations.

Helped me target exactly what I need to work on . She’s good at identifying the problem and the solution

Great first lesson! Really enjoyed it.

There was a lot of confusion with the scheduling of my first lesson but she was very good with helping me and it all worked out. She is super nice and funny. She really goes through in detail to help you improve.

It was good, if i had all necessary things it might have interested more and more over today i had issues @ work and very tired. hope i will enjoy more in the next class but sarah is very good and i like her class.

Sarah is amazing! Time flies by, but I learned so much. She makes learning makeup so much fun and a lot more simple. I would definitely choose her to learn anything she teaches!

Very personable and knowledgeable. Relaxed, yet very detail oriented and great at giving guidance virtually.

Had a few lessons with Sarah, and she is seriously wonderful. She is flexible with lesson times and communicates well with you. Lessons are fast pace, but also tailored to what youd like to learn (ex. phrases that may become common to you depending why you are learning aign language). Highly recommend.

I'm as basic as they come when dealing with ASL, but Sarah was very professional and very patient when it came to showing me different signs. Looking forward to my next lesson.

Awesome lesson!

She is a great teacher and knows how to introduce new topics well, and is a great help. You learn something new every lesson.

She was really nice and walked me through the steps. She didn't work ahead of me, she worked with me.

Made it easy to understand and was very through with explanations!!

My daughter was delighted and proud to show off her new skills!

Sarah is awesome great first lesson i cant wait to learn more!

Glad that I chose Sarah for lessons. The reviews from other students are very accurate. She is very knowledgeable, patient, and understanding of my schedule. I am looking forward to rest of my lessons with her and gaining a great foundation in ASL, upon which I can continue to build a better understanding.

Sarah was so great in my first lesson with her! She's clear with her instructions, made me feel at ease despite some definite nervous feelings, and she certainly seems very experienced in ASL! Excited about my next lesson! :)

My daughter, Ava enrolled in Sarah's classes and she loves it so far! She has only done two classes and, she's learned so much. Ava said that the exercises were interesting but very fun and helpful. The both of us would definitely recommend hiring Sarah as a coach!

Very patient with a sense of humor. My kind of instructor.

I had an audition for a play that was coming up and Sarah gave me the confidence and training i needed to do a good job. Shes a great teacher and taking lessons with her is stress free and a lot of fun! I recommend taking lessons with her whether your looking for a few tips or a major boost in skill!

Got off on a great start!

Sarah is awesome! I feel like I’m already learning so much!

Love the way Sarah breaks every line and sentence apart for you to fully develop your character .

I just had my first lesson with Sarah and it was great! In one day I've learned so much about singing and the anatomy of the voice box. But above all that, she is a very kind and patient person, who love's what she does. She really makes you feel comfortable right off the bat and explains things in a very easy to follow fashion. I'm already looking forward to next weeks lesson!!

informative, patient

Sarah is very patient with my energetic 8 yo!!
He is learning a lot and his confidence is growing.

FIRST TIMe doing an online acting class and was a great experience. My daughter loved it.

She is so patient & flexible with my schedule, thats why she is the perfect instructor for me.

Sarah is wonderful with my daughter, Valerie. She is patient and encouraging. My daughter enjoys the lessons and looks forward to them. After only 3 lessons I can see a difference and truly appreciate Sarah’s guidance and kindness!

Sara is Amazing TEACHER and A GREAT SINGER! I was not sure what to expect but now I’m soo excited and can’t wait for next lesson!! She is a true PROFESSIONAL in every way and had so much patience with me too !!
5 stars is not enough for HER !! SHE is a 10 STAR!!!!!

My daughter, Valerie, is 7 years old and has had two lessons so far with Sarah. Not only does Valerie love the lessons and looks forward to them, but I love the way Sarah talks to her and is caring and compassionate. She explains the exercises so well, praises Valerie when she does well, and gently corrects her when she misses the mark. Sarah communicates with me regarding Valerie's lesson and it is very easy to schedule lessons as well. I would highly recommend Sarah as voice coach for younger students as well as older ones!

I have now attended 5 lessons with Sarah and after one month, I learnt the correct techniques to breathe & sing. Certainly realized there's less to no pain in my throat compared to before lessons, and also have increase range comfortably. Sarah has different exercises to really help. Looking forward next to project my voice and singing consistently with the right techniques!

Very thoughtful, motivating and considerate, knows what she is doing as well, would definitely recommend her.

Sarah was fun and very easy to follow. She made sure that the signs that I completed were accurate and that if I had questions, she answered them very promptly and thoroughly. It was a very enjoyable session with Sarah. Hope to keep up with her and work on a good level of proficiency.

It's my first lesson with Sarah and finds her to be very knowledgeable altho she is young! :) Even tho she was having congestion, she still went through the lesson. Looking forward to learn more breathing support and expanding my range with Sarah!

Excellent teacher! Sarah is patient, engaged, and organized. Right from the start, she tested my voice to see where we should begin. Nearing the end of the lesson Sarah left me with a bunch of helpful tips and techniques to practice developing my voice.
My second lesson was just as great but due to where I was I was a bit nervous to sing too loud. Sarah quickly adapted to the situation and we worked on vocal exercises and worked on a song we had been working on. Thank you, Sarah, you are the best teacher!^^

After our 2nd lesson, Sarah sent me a picture text of her and her cast in full costume, while on set. Sarah was in a cow-suit. It was then that I realized I have a pretty dope singing teacher lol.
I was drawn to Sarah’s profile because her prices fit my college budget, and her fun personality radiated through her photos. They show how much she seems to love and enjoy musical theater and performing, and I really liked that!
So far I’ve only had three full lessons with her, and I freakin love them : )
1. Sarah is incredibly patient and understanding.
I missed out on our very first lesson because I had written down the wrong date. I felt so bad but she was really nice about the mishap and even sent me an overview of the lesson plan. I ended up filling out some questions so she could get to know me better for our next lesson, and so that the first lesson wouldn't go to waste
– thank you again Sarah!!
2. Sarah has an incredibly down-to-earth and welcoming personality that creates an environment in which you feel comfortable and relaxed.
It’s been very easy to let loose more and more with each lesson. That’s not to say that these lessons are easy. I feel relaxed but always challenged : )
3. Sarah wants the best for you and is there to encourage, aid, and push you towards becoming the singer that you have the potential to be!
She is always asking for my feedback on whether or not the advice she gives helps me better understand the vocal exercise/warm-up. She is very creative and has me engaging with my mind and body when I sing, like visualizing air fill into my body as my rib cage expands, or squatting as I reach for a high note so that my mind isn’t intimidated by it.
She is always giving me tips throughout our lessons and reminding me about all the things I need to think about and engage with while singing – stand tall, feet planted on the ground, use our “singer’s breath (through the diaphragm), engage with the resonators in my head and chest and avoid those in my nose, etc. Sarah always references to and shares with me any tips she’s received through her own vocal teacher or what she’s learned through singing/vocal workshops she’s been to. She’s full of experience and knowledge!
4. We meet through Facetime but that doesn’t stop Sarah from being able to read my facial expressions and sense when I’m holding back. I'm still learning and struggling with our vocal exercises and she always senses my hesitation, so she would repeat them again until I’m ready to attempt them. She knows when I’m holding back even when I may not be aware of it myself, and she’s always encouraging me to be more confident with my singing and voice. I really appreciate that! Please know that the quality of the lessons are amazing! Sarah never fails to catch the times I sing through my nose, forget to breathe, and my incorrect vowel sounds.
Every lesson I’ve had so far with Sarah has been really helpful and fun and I’d seriously recommend her to any beginner out there that wants to learn about/improve on their vocal technique!!!
