    About Samantha D.

Hi! My name is Ms. Samantha (or Ms. Sam) and I would be happy to work with your young ones. I have a B.S. in Engineering from Texas A&M University (Whoop!) and have completed several graduate courses in theology. My greatest passion is philosophy and nature, and I chose the latter for my career in the environmental industry, in which I have worked seven years. At this rate, I'm willing to work with any bright, eager, kind-hearted students in whatever subjects they need my help in. To me, relationship comes first and our enjoyable progress together will naturally follow. What I love about teaching is that I am a partner to learn with you along the way. My most practical skill is Math. I have professional experience tutoring SAT Math and have once upon a time aced those tests (I'm probably a little rusty now, but the critical thinking skills are still there). I am talented in most pre-calculus Math subjects. My second skill to highlight is Piano. Piano is my favorite hobby, and I took several years of private lessons growing up, along with music theory experience from playing a woodwind instrument in the school band. After my classical training in piano, I self-taught myself to improvise and play by ear. I am by no means a professional pianist, but I can teach a beginner the basics and how to enjoy music. My third skill I'd like to highlight is Philosophy/Biblical Studies. My asking rate is low enough that even if you just need a conversation partner or someone to throw an idea around with, I can diligently be that person. But on a more practical note, I have completed several courses at an accredited Christian seminary in Texas. Theology and Philosophy go hand-in-hand and are my first love. Beyond banter or debate, I would love to teach this subject to listening ears with a classical style emphasis. A fun fact about me is that I love to travel. I'm still earning my globetrotter status, but in the past year, I went on two epic road trips (a six week trip from Texas to Maine to California, and most recently, a four week trip through the American Southwest). Other subjects I could easily teach are volleyball (or basic Physical Education) -- in person, reading up to a middle school level, and practically any academic subject in basic elementary education. I must also add that I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese (speaking only) but my vocabulary is about at a 5th grade level. Lastly, I am flexible and patient (I have coached in Special Olympics).
