I am the Producing Artistic Director of the Hudson Warehouse and have been since its inception in 2004. Known as "The Other Free Shakespeare in the Park," we produce free classical theater in Riverside Park during the summer months and we have an indoor season during the winter months as well.

*** Teaching Methods ***
I foster a safe, relaxed and engaging environment to explore truthful human behavior on stage.
The objective is 'the truth' to which end there is no one technique. Actors are encouraged to find their own tools and to draw from elements of different practices to discover a technique that works best for them as individuals.
I studied the methods of Constantin Stanislavski for acting with Sergei Pomerov of the Moscow Circus Theater. I am classically trained as well.
I work primarily as a guide to help navigate the way and to interpret ‘the signs.' I teach the lesson in the moment and address the challenges of both the beginner and the experienced actor.
My basic approach to classical work focuses primarily on the connection of the breath with the feeling on the word.
This is the foundation on which you can then build. From the ‘words’ to the ‘thoughts’ to entire ‘passages’ of text, as you work and explore, the richness of the playwright’s words comes to life. Your own unique emotional life is allowed to come through the text and you are able to fully embody the role.

It was my Grandfather’s cousin, playwright Edward Martyn, who along with W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory of Poole, founded Dublin’s Abby Theatre. Mr. Martin-Smith has worked for years as an actor, most recently appearing Off-Broadway as Frank Deluca in The Rise of Dorothy Hale at St. Luke’s Theatre and as Harrison Brent in Perfect Crime at the Snapple Theatre Center. He has also appeared Off-Broadway in Measure for Measure (Soho Rep.), Julius Caesar (Douglas Fairbanks), as well as Comedy of Errors (Riverside Shakespeare Co.). Also in New York, Hamlet, King Lear , The Apple Cart (Theatre Ten-Ten), Dr. Lvov in Ivanov (The Mint Theatre), Pentheus in Chuck Mee’s adaptation of The Bacchae, and Lt. Charles in Renee Phillippi’s adaptation of The Adding Machine (78th Street Theatre Lab). Regionally: The Tempest, Much Ado About Nothing (Boston’s Publick Theatre), Konstantin The Seagull (A.R.T, Cambridge), Balm in Gilead, Am I Blue, Edmond, (Alley Theatre). I always had a problem with public speaking. I don't articulate words well and don't have any volume. I'm shy and uncomfortable in front of people. Nicholas worked on vocal lessons and how to enunciate and project. We also did breathing exercises and where to place the tongue with words.
