American Lit to 1914 - short stories, novels, and poetry

The era of American literature roughly corresponding to the 19th century (and early 20th century) is full of works and authors who are considered foundational, canonical. Whether you are reading the Innocents Abroad, or women writers such as Kate Chopin or Charlotte Perkins-Gilman, African-American authors from Douglass to Hughes, or works from Native American, Asian, and Latin-e authors of the period, I can help you reach your reading and test taking goals. Come to class prepared to discuss the literature, edit assignments, or quiz for exams.

    About Melita F.

With a background in higher education teaching and teacher training - both as an Instructional Designer stateside and teacher trainer through two U.S. Peace Corps services, I am well qualified to teach English language and literature. I have put my Master's degree in English to use globally, including currently as an online language tutor. Living abroad allows me to exercise tolerance for ambiguity, be independent, resourceful, and creative. Living abroad stokes a sincere desire in me to work across cultures, even and especially in virtual spaces. Working online ensures some freedom, flexibility, and comfort that face-to-face engagement can't always offer. Whether face-to-face or virtually, you deserve a quality education.

I had the pleasure of working with Melita during our time in Ethiopia together for Peace Corps. I was able to see how she interacts with her students and the amount of thought and care that goes into her lesson planning. She has a wealth of knowledge and knows how to use it in a way that helps her students understand what they are learning. She is kind, thoughtful, patient, intelligent and continuously strives to be the best teacher she can be for her students. I highly recommend Melita as a teacher!

Melita Fogole is a very thoughtful teacher who put efforts in how she provides her knowledge. She was conducting an engaging, and inclusive classroom. In fact, she was involving everyone in her class. She was very patient, and encouraging. Therefore, I would highly recommend her to anyone interested in learning English.
