I am a 21 year old senior at the Florida State University majoring in Russian. I have tutored my friends and colleagues before and wanted to offer my services to a wider range of people interested in learning the language as I have the credentials to conduct lessons and now I have the time. Having been a student for many years, I know exactly the type of environment that a student would prefer and having been a teacher/tutor for some time I am familiar with how to make the lessons run as frictionless as possible. I started tutoring because I saw how mainstream tutoring was run and I wasn't a fan. Mostly high-end services just drill the subject into you until you've memorized it. Effective or not, students don't tend to look forward to those types of lessons and that takes away the whole point. 1-on-1 lessons have so much potential to be enjoyable environments in which the student isn't afraid to speak up. I've always stressed the importance of building a comfortable environment and I see that as my primary focus. Lessons should be a back and forth conversation instead of solely consisting of the teacher asking questions and the student answering them. Tutoring isn't something that should be seen as an agenda that follows a textbook and only focuses on grinding out questions and lessons. In my mindset, healthy and friendly interactions lead to a lot more work being covered and that is what I stream to accomplish.
