About Magen H.
I studied American Sign Language (ASL) in college during my bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD coursework. As a nationally certified ASL interpreter through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, I have nine years of interpreting experience and hold two certifications (i.e., national and legal). I have a deep understanding of ASL and Deaf culture and can seamlessly translate from target sign language to written English using proper grammatical elements, vocabulary, and colloquialisms. I’m proficient in interpretation, both signing and voicing, simultaneous and consecutive, using a variety of modes of communication, including ASL, Pidgin Signed English or Contact Sign, Signed Exact English, Oral Transliteration, and Tactile for Deaf-Blind. I taught ASL 1 in the education department at a university in Washington, D.C. In the ASL course, I introduced the basics of ASL to undergraduate students with little or no previous knowledge of ASL through immersion; teaching completely in ASL. I taught ASL grammar, vocabulary, classifiers, non-manual signals, Deaf Culture, and the Deaf community. The class was in-person, and I incorporated receptive and expressive language activities through active participation.

We love Miss Megan. She’s patient, kind, thorough, fun and has the right way of explaining/ modeling. The best! We can’t wait for more classes.

Magen makes learning ASL so fun. I highly recommend taking a class with her!

Magen has true talent and passion for both ASL and teaching. She has years of experience in both and is extremely knowledgeable, personable, and a delightful person to work with. I would recommend Magen to anyone who wants to learn or expand upon their knowledge of ASL.

Magen is very engaging and encouraging! I felt excited to learn from her, and felt it was easy to ask her questions. My ASL really improved, and she was able to make things simple for me to better understand.

Magen is a great instructor.

Fabulous teacher! Professional, patient, kind, and thorough. She can adapt to any type and level of learner. She also has an extensive background in Deaf culture, which is a wonderful advantage in learning from her. I highly recommend Magen!
