1:1 Engaging & Connecting Language Arts Tutor

Welcome to my standard 1:1 language arts tutoring class. This is my vanilla class for 1:1 tutoring and is set up for general tutoring needs. This 1:1 tutoring class serves two purposes. The first is to serve guardians and students who would like weekly scheduled classes. Usually, I provide the curriculum based on shared objectives and goals. Provided homework is optional. The second purpose is to assist with reading, writing, social studies, or science school homework projects, personal projects, or test preparation. Past students in my classroom and those I have taught online enjoy my lessons because I build connections and make learning enjoyable, humorous, and engaging. When I am with young learners in an educational setting, the child in my heart comes out. It helps that I have many of the same interests as my students and can discuss anything from my old Atari games to the new hit smartphone apps and much in between. I specialized in the upper elementary language arts for 10 of my 24 years in the classroom and have a master's in Educational Technology. I can assist with any literacy component, including theme, main idea, vocabulary, locating evidence, character development, and predicting. I also specialize in building the reading/writing connection, research skills, and creative writing techniques. Teaching Style: -Patient, understanding, and encouraging -Positive thinking -Build connections -Facilitator -I do, we do, you do -Hands-on -High interest

    About John L.

*My summer hours are Monday through Thursday, 8-4 CDT. Please send me a message to request Sunday and evening times. Starting August 15, I will resume my school year calendar (Sunday through Thursday, 6 am-8 pm). Welcome to my class! After spending over 25 years in the classroom, I am excited to begin my first year with Takelessos. After graduating high school, I decided I wanted to do something in life that would bring me joy daily. I narrowed it down to becoming a firefighter or an educator, and since I was afraid of heights and enjoyed learning, I decided to stay in the classroom. Each day of teaching still brings me joy, and I would be happy if you joined me on this learning adventure. I obtained a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2002 and an Educational Technology master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 2010. I spent over 20 years in the upper elementary classroom and specialized in teaching language arts for ten years. I also have ten years of private tutoring experience and have tutored online since 2020. I specialize and enjoy digging deep into and discussing a good book with a group of young learners and building upon the reading/writing connection. I work with students from ages 8-13 (upper elementary to middle school skill level). My students would describe me as a fun, humorous, positive, and engaging educator who brings learning enjoyment. I enjoy keeping up with my sports teams
