When I was in grade school, my lowest grades were in math. I hated doing math and it never seemed to make any sense to me. In college, math was hard and I dreaded the classes. I wanted to succeed so I studied harder and finally aced my Calculus class. It was a long hard road but it began to make sense and I began to find it interesting. Upon graduating from college, I was offered a scholarship for Master's degree with the New York Teaching Fellows. I had an option to choose my topic that I would be teaching and I chose math because I knew I could help those who struggled like me. I was taught how to scaffold lessons, how to break down every step of the way so students could develop a better understanding. More importantly, I learned that confidence is a big part and eliminating the fear of math was at the forefront of my lessons. I have 7 years of experience and have successfully changed many of my students perspective towards math and am confident that my experience as both a student and a teacher will allow me to deliver lessons that are instrumental to a student's progress.

About John K.

I have been a special education math teacher for the past eight years and have experience in helping students gain a confidence in math class. I struggled with math in grade school but during college, something clicked and I found math to be interesting and exciting. As a result of my struggles, I know how you feel and am able to deliver interesting lessons. Math can be scary and intimidating for some but with my experience and perspective, I am able to break math down into smaller chunks, boost your confidence and show you how to achieve your goals. I look forward to seeing your progress!
