Sign Language with Jessy B.

I have taught American Sign Language (ASL) since 2011 at a community college and a university.I have worked with college students of various of ages, and backgrounds. I also have experience with teaching ASL to children at the library and at an agency. Eventually I went back to school, obtained my Masters degree, Masters in Sign Language Education at Gallaudet University in 2017. After completing my Masters; I realized it was the best decision for my career because I was able to collect tools, learn new assessments, and different teaching approaches. I strongly believe in student centered approach because it empowers students and gives them more practice to improve their ASL skills. With online students I am flexible with students' preference in what areas in ASL they wish to improve. Also, I try to teach sign language with topics that they are interested in. Sign language students will expect to learn new vocabulary each lesson and learn about ASL grammar naturally. Eventually they should become comfortable to converse with their Deaf friends, Deaf children, family members, and so on. Students will also learn about Deaf culture and it's history. I hope one day at least 80 percent of people would know sign language in this country. I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family and pets.
