Hi there! I am currently accepting new students for in-home, travel or online lessons. I have more than 15 years experience as a drama teacher and acting coach; and I am also a seasoned college and graduate school admissions counselor with more than 6 years experience in the field. MY BACKGROUND: I did my undergraduate work at Princeton, where I earned a Bachelor's degree in English and a Certificate in Theater & Dance. I also have a Master's degree in Text & Performance and a Specialist Certificate in Acting Shakespeare from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, England; and I was a James S. Copley Foundation Fellow at USC. A working professional actor myself since early childhood, I have been teaching acting and improv for young people since I was still in high school, and now work with actors of all ages. I also spent several years as Director of the London office and Chief College Admissions Counselor worldwide for The Edge in College Preparation, and continue to work with students in that capacity. WHAT I TEACH: * Acting * Do you have a big audition coming up that you need to prepare for? Having trouble finding a monologue for class? Struggling with Shakespeare's text? Want to work on your improv skills? Just want to add a few tools to your toolkit? As a working professional actor, I understand the stress of live performance firsthand. Putting yourself out there can be daunting... But it should also be fun! I am very detail-oriented, but also all about playing and exploration. The more prepared you are -- and the more joy you can bring to the process -- the more confident you will be! * Shakespeare * I am a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, with a Master's degree in Text & Performance and a Specialist Certificate in Acting Shakespeare. I've performed in London on the South Bank and in Regents Park, along with a variety of other venues in both the US and the UK. Whether you're working on a monologue for class, preparing for a big audition, or just struggling to make sense of Shakespeare's text, I'm here to demystify the process and make the whole thing a little less daunting. * Improvisation * I am a graduate of the Upright Citizens Brigade's improv program, and have also studied with the Groundlings and with private coaches on both coasts, as well as in the UK. I am a member of the all Native American professional improv troupe 'The Mayflower Welcoming Committee,' and perform regularly on stages around LA. I have experience teaching both long and short form improv, as well as character work -- but in a private coaching scenario, I tend to focus on each student's individual needs, tailoring each lesson to a particular skill or area of concern. * College Admissions Counseling * I have more than 6 years of experience working with students to strengthen their college and graduate school applications. My specialty is helping students to formulate, craft and perfect their admissions essays, but I am also available for across-the-board counseling, covering all aspects of the application process. * Writing * I am available to work with students on all types of formal and critical writing -- including academic essays for high school and college classes, college and graduate school admissions essays, cover letters for jobs and internships, and anything else that needs attention. I am very detail-oriented, focusing on everything from punctuation and grammar to structure and choice of topic. I don't just want to get you through one assignment or application -- I teach skills that will help you with all of your work in future.
