Your essay writing class will be customized to your goals and interests. Together, we plan lessons that develop your skills and passions in tandem. From social media to Shakespeare to skateboarding, we will find high-quality texts for your unique curriculum, and practice reading, analysis, and writing skills. I LOVE customizing a class for each student. I'm not going to waste your time with one-size-fits-all, "cookie-cutter" lessons. We will design an essay writing class that is 100% tailored to your areas of interest, so that it's 100% engaging and effective! My philosophy is that every student deserves a dedicated mentor to help them master the writing process—and discover how writing can further their unique purpose, paths, and passions.

    About Jane P.

I transform students into vibrant, fearless writers, ready for college-level writing! Through personalized, 1-on-1 classes, I prepare them for the college-level writing required in AP and IB classes, in college and post-graduate programs, and beyond. I honed my teaching skills at Phillips Exeter Academy, one of the world's most rigorous and elite prep schools. I taught a range of essay and creative writing courses there from 2010 to 2018, and I've enjoyed teaching talented students to master the craft of writing and use it as a vital tool to chart their unique paths to success since 2008. I design dynamic classes that develop my students' skills AND interests. My goal is to prepare students for the rigorous writing and analysis they'll need to succeed in college and beyond, to become enthusiastic and successful scholars in all fields. My students learn to craft powerful essays, personal statements, editorials, presentations, podcasts, and more!

    Experience

    English Instructor

    Jun, 2010 - Aug, 2018

I taught rigorous writing courses in Exeter's pre-college program to sophomores, juniors and seniors. Among my favorite courses were "Craft of the Essay," "The College Admissions Essay," "Becoming a Confident Writer" and "Writing Process Workshop." I also supervised evening Writing Lab, where all students could come get help with their work, co-taught an ESL writing class for non-native speakers, and led 2-day mini-workshops on Thesis Development for other courses.
