I am a med school dropout who decided one day not to keep fighting his creativity demon. Next came 6 years of Musical Theater training at Julliard (2 years), Columbia (2years, ma degree), Indiana school of music (2 years), and one year of social work training at Pittsburgh, 1970-1980 I spent 10 years immersing myself in the avaunt guarde musical theater scene in NYC.
I studied physical theater with Richard Schechner and Brechtian theater with mabou mines, the uta hagen system with Jack Axelrod, and classical acting technique with Wal Cherry, also a workshop with the Grotowski company. Meanwhile, along the way I more and more integrated the gestalt therapy techniques I learned at Pittsburgh into my teaching/directing style. 1981-2016 I spent 35 years mostly in Israel running my own studio and teaching for a while acting at tel aviv u. theater dept. also in Israel I sopped up a lot of Kabbalah wisdom, especially of the Bratislava and chabbad sorts, though i am mostly avant garde and not at all "religious" in the usual sense.
Since 2016 I am teaching here in NYC and directing three musical theater shows which I wrote/composed. from my BA in chemistry at Cornell U till my social work training at Pittsburgh i studied 14 years total at 9 universities. Along with all the philosophy and kabbalah. Also, I am a pro dixiland and klezmer trombone player, with many years experience in that field. I teach acting, singing, and movement, all grounded in gestalt work as reality 101. "If you don't deal the reality of the situation, the reality of the situation will deal with you." It's your choice, but this stuff is not for everybody. You gotta have the intelligence for the ideas, the quest for the truth search, and the talent to weld it all into your own work as an artist of the theater.
You can be the horse and let me be the jockey/teacher/coach, or together we can create your own personal brand of musical theater using your particular set of skills: acting, singing, movement, writing, etc. from mabou mines theater I learned about creating a "personal myth" project". The gestalt work gives you polarities, opposites sides of your personality. These polarities director Michael Chekhov labels your "psychological gestures". Next, you use these polarities as subtext for a one person show, and overlay whatever metaphor or "character" or image suits your fancy. For example, you as donald trump, or you as a humming bird. the meld of two levels then shines as illuminated "live form".

I worked with Franklyn from 1975-76. His Gestalt Theater workshop helped me to learn about myself, gain self-confidence, work with others, and discover and sharpen my skills.

Working with Franklyn is being with a true master of a field. Not only was the process well organized, done pragmatically, and attention paid to the details, but also Franklyn taught his trade as he took you along his particular Gestalt influenced method. He is well versed and highly skilled in helping actors and people reach their potential. I recommend him for his vast knowledge, dedication, and hard work in making a final product, the product is a better you! Thank you Franklyn!
