My degrees are in psychology (BA) and law (JD). Studying psychology, I learned that children have learning styles related to their personalities. For instance, children with high levels of energy seem to learn better when actively engaged as they learn, and more introverted children don't like to be put on the spot, but they do want their teacher's attention and they enjoy interaction with one person at a time. I also learned that categorizing concepts helps with memorization, which is how I scored at the 94th percentile on the Verbal section of the GRE, plus I've learned some tricks for performing complex calculations quickly. I've taught Reading and Math to students in kindergarten through 5th grade in Oakland, California. I've also tutored college students for an undergraduate psychology class, and later law students for their criminal law class. I taught the 4 and 5 year old Sunday School class at my church throughout my teen years, so I'm quite familiar with this age group.
