ACT English and Reading: all the strategies you need to ace the test!

We will work exclusively from bona fide ACT material, starting with The Real ACT Book and then moving on to authentic past ACT Tests that I have collected. This is the only test prep material that is held to the highest standard, so there is no ambivalence regarding answer choices. I can prove to you exactly WHY each correct answer is the only possible answer and HOW you can discover that answer. I will teach you overall strategies and multiple detailed strategies that will reveal to you exactly what the test maker is asking and how you can see the test through the test makers' eyes. I like to keep our lessons light and fun and inspiring. I really enjoy what I do and want you to enjoy it as well, while getting your highest possible score on the test!

I'm a graduate of New York University. I've been tutoring SAT/ACT Reading, Writing, and English for over 23 years. The new digital SAT is simplified in comparison with the old version and is not as deep a learning experience. However that doesn't mean the test is easy. I started tutoring the digital test in October for a PSAT student, and he scored a 740 out of 760, qualifying for National Merit. Studying for the ACT is a deeper learning experience. The grammar, punctuation, and editing skills I teach will not only bring you a top score on the test but will also prepare you for success with your college essays. For the Reading section, I'll show you how to read the passages quickly, searching for main ideas. I'll show you annotation techniques that will help you find the answers quickly. Students frequently tell me that their school English scores go up as well as their test scores after ACT work. My goal is to show students the tests through the test makers' eyes. I enjoy inspiring students to work at the top of their ability to fulfill their own goals.

We were fortunate to have Constance help my son with his reading and writing preparation for the ACT. Her exceptional guidance and teaching methods resulted in an impressive 8-point jump on his practice tests. We couldn't be more pleased with the progress he's made. Constance's dedication, patience, and expertise truly made a significant difference. Highly recommend her services!

Constance tutored me in the English-based section of the SAT and it was extremely helpful. With her help, I was able to score a 1570 with a perfect reading section. She's a great person and I really enjoyed my time working with her.

    Experience

Teacher for students with learning disabilities

    Jun, 2001 - Aug, 2001

    Lindamood Bell

I spent a summer working with children with learning disabilities, teaching cognitive skills, reading, and comprehension. Positive reinforcement was a major element of the Lindamood Bell regimen, and it's become an important part of my test prep strategy.

    Actor/Educator

    Sep, 2001 - May, 2004

    East LA Classic Theatre

I taught an Arts Program for "at risk" public middle school students in Los Angeles. Each student eventually wrote a 10 page play, 5 of which were chosen for production in which all of the students took part. In addition to the arts education, one of the goals was to improve language skills in a largely English second language area.

    SAT/ACT Verbal Test Prep Tutor

    Sep, 2001 - Jun, 2003

    IVY WEST

I got my start as a Test Prep Tutor at Ivy West in California. I went through their training process and soon found that I had a gift for raising test scores. After a few years with this top company, I was able to go out on my own and become an independent tutor.
