I am a professional educator with a ten-year teaching career. I began teaching students with autism in 2007 in Phoenix, Arizona and got my Master's degree in education. I moved to Mexico City in 2011 with my wife and miniature dachshund Chrysanthemum.
I spent six years living in Mexico City, teaching economics and philosophy courses to high school students looking to earn college credit. I have taught in the IB Diploma program and many of my students took the AP Micro and Macro exams as well. My students did extremely well on their end-of-course exams and many went on to study in the US at schools such as Berkeley, Stanford, Brown, NYU and more. In addition to preparing students for their exams and college, we also had a great time. I was voted twice in six years by the student body to give the commencement speech at graduation - it's the best award I've ever received!
In addition to economics, I taught Theory of Knowledge in the IB Diploma program, AP Seminar in the AP Capstone program, and Social & Cultural Anthropology as a department elective. I also speak Spanish and would be glad to help you brush up on your vocabulary.
I recently moved back to my hometown of Des Moines and I'm looking forward to meeting some Iowans who would like to learn economics!
I wrote and edited learning experiences and designed curriculum for the Mexican educational technology start-up firm Knotion.
I've taught both years of the IB Diploma Program's Economics at the Higher Level. My students were also prepared for the AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics exams.
I completed Google's Certified Educator's program showing proficiency in using technology in education
I studied coaching and facilitation to improve my leadership and management skills.
