I won't teach you how to write. I don't believe that kind of class exists. I will give you tools to help develop your ideas and possibly make the writing process easier so that you can bring your stories to life. My experiences in writing come mostly from writing Young Adult novels and writing for film and television, so I will be bringing aspects from those worlds into lessons often. Lessons will be hands-on, developing a story of your own into a polished piece of work. Whether you want to write a short story to start with, or you're ready to write the next great American novel, come ready with an idea and mind wide open, and we'll work that diamond in the rough until it shines.

About Ashleigh H.

My name is Ashleigh and I am a professional writer. I write novels mostly, but I also write screenplays, stageplays, musicals, and the occasional short story or two. I have three years of education at the University of North Georgia, in their Film and Digital Media Production program. As a creative writing tutor, I hope to help you open your mind to see the world not only by your definite surroundings and what already is, but also by the infinite possibilities of what could have been and what still can be. For sessions, I can do something as simple as read a piece of fiction you've written and give you honest feedback, or I can meet with you multiple times, giving writing exercises, assignments, and feedback so that you can see your improvement from week one until the end of our time together.

This was my first lesson with Ashleigh and I already know she's going to take my writing to the next level. I feel so comfortable talking with her about my writing, and she's so knowledgeable! I feel like I'm getting amazing instruction and can't wait for my next lesson!

Experience

Screenplay Programming Intern
Jun 2018 - Oct 2018

Atlanta Film Festival

I work with the Atlanta Film Festival as their Screenplay Programming Intern. I read dozens of scripts per week and write up important feedback, as well as give my personal "pass or fail" on the script for the programmers to consider.

Assistant to Producers
Jun 2017 - Nov 2017

"Summer Night" Film

I worked as an assistant to producers on the independent feature film, "Summer Night." In this role, among numerous other jobs, I often helped in reviewing script rewrites. The film was recently acquired by Samuel Goldwyn Films.

Development Assistant
Jun 2017 - Nov 2017

Tara Ansley

In this role, I read dozens of screenplays for a local Atlanta producer and gave feedback on them, both for the producer and the writer. For the producer, my feedback and notes included whether or not I would recommend producing the project. For the writer, notes revolved around what worked and what didn't; what read really well versus what needed some work.

Showrunner
Sep 2015 - May 2017

"Vampire Academy: The Officially Unofficial Fan Series"

I created, wrote, and produced a fan web series based on Richelle Mead's "Vampire Academy" novel series. We had a first season of three full episodes and twelve mini-episodes, all of which were written by myself and, occasionally, members of the cast. The show went on into a season two, which I also co-wrote. The first episode has gained more than 120,000 views on YouTube, and we gained our own fan following (who occasionally bring around petitions for us to adapt the series officially!).

Writer's Room Assistant
Nov 2016 - Jan 2017

"Dead Winter" Writer's Room

I worked as an assistant in the writer's room for "Dead Winter," a webseries that was developed through Women in Film and Television Atlanta. During this time, I read scripts for my mentors and gave feedback and notes for suggestions, many of which were used for the final product.
