Pick a song you want to learn - I'll teach you how to play it! Want to learn how to write your own song? I can teach you!

I focus on your interests as a guitarist, and develop the lessons from there. I really listen and get to know you as a guitarist, a songwriter, a bandmate - however you see yourself, and help you achieve your dreams. All my lessons are rooted in a firm grasp of music theory, proper guitar technique, and a deep understanding of music history.

I've been teaching private guitar and songwriting lessons for over 10 years and have been a performing professional guitarist for 15 years. I've earned a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Oregon and have performed all over the United States and Canada in one band or another. I have extensive experience as a recording artist, and my work has been featured in several full length albums, EP's and singles as well as several independent films. I have also produced music for American Express commercials and ...

About Tom

After years of working on my scales and feeling like I still didn't know my way around the guitar, Tom was able to explain how to play scales vertically in both major and minor keys in just one lesson. No one before him had been able to explain it in such a way for it to finally click for me. Since then, I feel like my shredding skills have improved 10 fold and I have fallen even more in love with playing and jamming along to my favorite songs. Tom is patient, kind, calm, and an incredibly skilled guitarist that anyone would be lucky to learn from!

6, 7, or 8 string, anything and everything guitar is my specialty. Electric or acoustic welcome. We will cover the parts of the instrument and why everything is so darn important (like how to stay in tune!). We can perfect your guitar's signal flow, pedals, and amplifier settings, too!

All kinds of styles from simple note picking and open chords to pop/rock/punk/metal/blues/jazz and more.

Want to learn basic rhythm? lead? fast strumming? how about making those big chords without making your hands hurt? I can help! You'll be jamming along with your favorite songs and with friends in no time.

I typically will teach and write guitar using tablature instead of standard sheet music. These are a simple set of lines and numbers that are much easier to read, and once learned will instantly give you access to thousands of songs.

Also I can show you how to play with a capo or slide, fingerstyle or pick. If you want to learn grunge or sing deep, I can show you how to play in ...

I am a 61 yr old and I come from the old school so keep this in mind - as a newbie, I was expecting a timeline of what we were going to learn each class session and if all was successful, where I should be (level wise) if all worked out according to plan! But, again, the world has changed and I am probably behind and so I am also learning! I will continue as this is only the first class and I believe things are just warming up!!! Looking forward to a great experience!

"Attentive and great at teaching technique

Gio truly focuses on the student's needs. I've met too many self-absorbed musicians in the past, but Gio really pays attention to details in the student's playing. He is excellent at teaching technique and was the first guitar teacher to help me fix physical problems regarding posture and arm tension. His kind, easy-going manner makes a student comfortable. He has a wealth of musical knowledge to share."
