Jennifer
I studied under Leilah for several years and I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. She was my first teacher; she showed me the basics of cello and taught me in Suzuki books 1-6. One thing Leilah does that not many cello teachers do is play with her students. At my lessons, Leilah always had her cello out and was ready to demonstrate a technique or playing style, which helped immensely with my understanding of music. Having Leilah as a teacher has given me the skills and preparation I need to play in college. I would recommend her to any cello student who is willing to work hard to improve.

Ms. Leilah has an in depth understanding of the Suzuki Method but also uses many inventive ideas to make lessons fresh and motivating!

"After only one lesson with Pablo I am very pleased with my experience with him. As I am a beginner, he started me on the basics and was very patient and encouraging. I found his material level appropriate and he is willing to move at whatever pace is comfortable for me. The homework he assigned and the additional resources he shared are proving to be very beneficial as well. I thoroughly enjoyed my first lesson and with Pablo's pleasant and relaxed personality, I look forward to my future lessons."

"Micah is the most inspiring teacher. She helped me from eighth grade until senior year; from memorizing Spanish poetry to analyzing essays, we did everything and I understood everything. I felt super prepared for class every week and if I ever had an issue I would just email Micah. Without Micah I do not know if I would have continue to AP Spanish V in high school or if my love for the Spanish language would be the same. I adore Micah and all that she has taught me and my pleasant Spanish memories are all rooted with Micah. If you are looking for not just an amazing teacher but an idol, Micah is the one."

Spanish Lessons in Saint Louis

By Daniel B. - Spanish Teacher in Saint Louis

Greetings! My name is Daniel and I teach the beautiful language of Spanish in Saint Louis, Missouri. I attend both Washington University in Saint Louis and University of Missouri S. Louis. I am studying neuroscience, psychology, and biology with the hopes of becoming a therapist, researcher, and instructor.

Why Learn Spanish

From my experience teaching Spanish lessons in Saint Louis, I know that students chose to study the language for a variety of reasons. Some high school or college students thought it was the easiest or most practical language to learn. One of my students decided to learn Spanish because her husband was Hispanic and she wanted to be able to communicate with her extended family. If you are that high school or college students, family member, or just someone who wants to learn Spanish for the fun of it – worry not! Taking Spanish lessons in Saint Louis will be a fun and rewarding adventure.

Learning Spanish the Correct Way

The process of learning Spanish does not have to be dry and boring. Memorizing vocabulary lists and finishing endless verb conjugation worksheets in the classroom can be far from the experience that attracts individuals – young and old – to the Hispanic culture. A qualified instructor will work with you to make sure you’re feeling challenged and having fun! Conversation, music, radio, television, instruction manuals, and literature are all mediums of culture which Spanish teachers can help their students immerse themselves in the language. Learning Spanish is a journey: some might take longer than others, but it’s the actual process and destination where we find importance.

Learning Spanish in Saint Louis

While it would be amazing to move to a Spanish speaking destination for a year and learn the language by immersion, don’t worry! Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain, and the rest of these amazing places can come to you! Saint Louis has countless resources for those of us who want to experience the Hispanic culture. I realize that forsaking your own comfortable or familiar culture can be a daunting task. If you are in Saint Louis and would like accountability during this journey, sign up for Spanish lessons through Take Lessons. My task is not to teach you Spanish, but it is to expose you to the Hispanic culture in a way that allows you to become a participant rather than merely an observer.

Events, Festivals, and Fun Stuff

Festival of Nations (http://www.festivalofnationsstl.org) The Festival of Nations occurs annually in Saint Louis. Join thousands of people and explore different cultures all in one location. Several Hispanic countries are represented. This event includes music, food, clothing, and accessories as experienced by the Hispanic or Latino people.

Fiesta in Florissant (http://www.hispanicfestivalstl.com) This is a fiesta you won’t want to miss. With the entire focus on Hispanic and Latin American culture, you almost forget that you’re in America. The food offered is authentic according to each represented country and there is such a strong sense of community.

Puerto Rican Society Annual Picnic (http://www.sprstlouis.com/#!events/c1j5o) Bring friends and family alike to experience the Puerto Rican culture! There will be food, activities, booths, and more. Take this opportunity to explore a non-American culture. The food is amazing, authentic, and prepared by a caring soul who would be more than happy to discuss various aspects of her culture with anyone.

The Saint Louis Spanish Language Meetup Group (http://www.meetup.com/spanish-237) This is a group of Spanish speakers, English speakers, and everyone in-between. Join this casually conversing group of individuals who come together solely to improve their – and your – Spanish! This group in completely open to everyone – those who speak no Spanish, or those who are fluent and wish to remain sharp or assist others in learning the beautiful language of Spanish. Find a group or start a group of your own!

Neveria La Vallesana (https://plus.google.com/111944688640701069134/about?gl=us&hl=en_ This is authentic Mexican cuisine! After eating at La Vallesana, you will never again refer to Chevy’s as “Mexican food.” This place is as legit as they come. From the tortas and tacos, to the Mexican glass Cokes, they provide a taste of Mexico.

El Chico (https://plus.google.com/102832517642281684873/about?gl=us&hl=en) After eating, La Vallesana’s authentic Mexican food, you may want a dessert. This works out perfectly because, located a block from La Vellesana, stands El Chico. I have frequented El Chico so often, the employees know me by name. This Mexican Pastry Shop makes the BEST empanadas.

Finally…

If you want to learn a language, experience a culture, discover a people, explore Mexico, or just pass that required language class, sign up for Spanish lessons in Saint Louis today! Let’s enjoy this journey together!

Best, Daniel

10 Important Differences Between Spanish & Portuguese

The 2016 Summer Olympics were held in Rio de Janerio, Brazil. For language-learners everywhere, it was and still is a great time to explore Portuguese, their official language!
