I encourage my students to pursue all types of music. I like to use “method books” to help with reading and music theory no matter which instrument they choose. I always use supplemental materials that follow the student’s interests and level. I often use technology in lessons to motivate and help students grow. For example, I use many apps for theory, note reading, and rhythm training.

A cancellation 24hrs in advance is always appreciated.

My 9-year-old daughter has been taking piano lessons from Dora for over a year now, and she couldn't be happier! Dora is so kind, patient and helpful! My daughter has made so much progress just within one year's time. Plus, she is so motivated to practice, and to return each week!

Dora is amazing! I've never experienced such a great vocal teacher! By the third lesson, I felt myself progressing, Dora is so kind and encouraging! She tries any way possible to make sure you understand what she's teaching you. For every warm up she explains why we are using that warm up and how it will benefit your voice. She has a wonderful aura and she makes you feel at home. Very professional and she knows what she's talking about. Very skilled and well trained. I absolutely love Dora and I'm always so excited for my lessons with her every week. If you are looking for a vocal coach, pick Dora. I assure you, you will not regret it.

My lessons start with warming up with scales, chords, and drills. This will improve accuracy and knowledge of the piano. We then go forward to reading music from either sheet music or a book of choice. Since the lesson is geared specifically for you, we could work on classical pieces, pop songs, originals and everything else in between.

About Sebastian
Playing and learning an instrument is beneficial to ones being because it is a great way to express ones self and it's an excellent stress reliever. It's also an amazing feeling playing an instrument you love to listen to.

Learning any instrument could be daunting at first because there is so much to learn and without any help, could feel overwhelming and hopeless. Do not fret because I am here to assist you!
I have studied many music genres all across the board and have a professional knowledge and comprehension of the theory encompassed behind them. Every lesson is crafted for each student in specific areas they have interest in while being done at the students own pace.

My background history:

I immersed myself in music at a very young age, studying classical piano and theory. In my teenage years I took the initiative to le
arn guitar and began by purchasing my own guitar and books and taught myself to play electrical and classical guitar. I followed my passion and continued my studies at Columbia College and graduated with a bachelors degree in Instrumental Performance.

Post-graduation, I have experienced playing in multiple bands, performing in concerts, teaching piano and guitar ranging in all levels at a music center and private home and enjoying some traveling.

Everything I have learned will be reflected in my lesson methodology and will help you learn to play proficiently in a timely manner. I look forward to meeting new prospective students while having fun teaching them music.

Typically lessons start with a warm-up or exercise, which usually relates to a concept in the songs or pieces we study in the lesson. Generally I try to work on three pieces each lesson that share a concept in some way. Lessons can vary based on student goals and approach. For example, an advanced classical lesson might target specific spots in larger pieces, while a jazz/pop lesson might deal with hand positioning for chords and ear training.

About Matt
I am a professional singer who has proficiencies in piano, organ, choral directing, musical analysis, and ear training/playing by ear. I currently teach both high school and college students.

I reached out to Matt to prepare for a college audition I was preparing for.
What I enjoyed most about Matt was that he had the capability to be super flexible and encouraging. In my first lesson, I was very nervous and unsure of my song choices. He was confident and knowledgable with the capability to provide several great song choices with just a short warm-up with me and listening to my voice. He knew exactly what I needed to work on and by my third lesson, my friends and family were able to hear a difference.
I became more confident and came to lessons more sure of what I wanted and envisioned for my audition. Matt was flexible and not only gave me the freedom to add my own ideas to the music, but encouraged me to be original. He also gave me insight and tips on introduction, stance, and how to be more theatrical on stage.
Matt is very professional, knowledgable, and I will definately come back for more lessons with him. I highly recommend him.

I teach rock keyboard with a focus on fun. I've spent many, many hours playing songs from the Beatles, Spoon, Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver and many more. I received my piano proficiency from Knox College where I majored in music.

My beginning students always start with a song that they love. As soon as those songs are internalized the application of scales will become a necessity, but will never take precedent over rhythm and feel.

Are you ready to start your adventure into the world of piano?

About Oliver
I specialize in upright bass, jazz bass, funk bass, bass technique, and rhythm. I will inspire a positive attitude and good practice habits that will help any student succeed. I’ve extensively studied jazz, latin jazz, funk, rock music, hip hop, bluegrass, folk, and composition.

I can also teach guitar, piano, drums, and voice. As a mulit-instrumentalist, jamming with my students is a priority. Being able to play with other musicians is one of the best feelings you’ll ever experience. I’m happy to take you there!

Recently, I helped one of my bass players get a scholarship to go to Berklee Summer Camp to study music.

I am very excited to continue my teaching on TakeLessons. I look forward to helping new students to become the musician of their dreams.

I've been playing professionally in Chicago for five years where I play up
right for a classical chamber pop group called the Nine Worlds Ensemble and for a jazz group with Frank Catalano, a popular Chicago sax-man. I co-managed, played upright bass, and sang for an ambient-folk band, Sedgewick, based in Chicago. I've played upright bass in the Frank Catalano and Jimmy Chamberlin (drummer for Smashing Pumpkins) super group and Bowmanville.

I am currently dreaming up my own jazz-inspired project called the ohm trio. Working on my debut record under my solo name ohm. Be on the look out!

Whether you want to learn for fun, or to gain useful skills to enhance your passion, I will be there to make sure you succeed.

About Kyla
Hello! I'm Kyla. Currently, I attend Columbia Chicago College as a Music and Musical Theatre major. I will be graduating in 2019 with both degrees. I have been playing the violin and piano since I was 4 years old. Then, I began to sing and perform in musicals. In high school, I joined Musicality (AGT Season 11 semi-finalists). Then, in 2017, I was offered the position of Staff Member in the group where I assist in running sectionals, teaching music, and arranging music. At Columbia, I was in XCEND Show Choir where I was the Vocal Director. I arranged and taught all vocals and I helped run rehearsals. Music is my passion and I want to share my experiences with others so they can develop their kraft.
