Jazz piano and general piano lessons taught by a New York conservatory-trained pianist.

Alex Sjobeck holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the Manhattan School of Music and a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado where she taught collegiate classes while obtaining her degree. She has taught semester-long classes as well as master classes at universities and high schools across the United States and has been teaching private piano lessons to both young and adult students for over a decade. Her knowledge of music is shown through her thriving teaching career as well as her performance career which has led her to record several albums and perform at acclaimed jazz clubs across the United States such as the Velvet Note in Atlanta, GA, and Dazzle in Denver, CO.

About Alex

My 12 year old son loves all music in general, not just a single instrument. He has been playing piano for a while and was able to click with Alex immediately. The way she spoke WITH him ( not just to him) about All aspects was great. She works very well with my son and he is looking forward to his nExt lesson.
Nona R.
I felt very comfortable with her. She was very patient and gave clear instructions on what to work on for next time.

Alex is very patient and able to adapt to her students. I studied with her for a year and also got to see other students work with her and she always had a way of getting each student to accomplish their goals. I think when you look for a teacher, you really are looking for someone to teach you how to learn. So many teachers tell you something or tell you what to do but never help you develop a skillset. Alex is different in that she absolutely focuses on developing a fundamental process so that each student not only learns but knows how to learn. As a result, there is progress I can see immediately, of course, but also years down the road. If you're looking for a teacher seriously, consider someone who will make a lasting impact and will make you a better overall person— not just tell you to do something and move on. Alex is a teacher who, regardless if you pursue music, you will come out better because of her teachings. Highly recommend!

Mr Lewis is fantastic. He truly loves teaching kids to love music. My grandson first had him as a 5th grade music teacher and now as a private instructor for his clarinet. He takes each student at their own pace, encouraging them along the way to stretch and challenge.

Leela
She’s very helpful in many different ways. Whenever my son is doubting his ability and skill, she explains very clearly that he is good and builds the confidence in him. She’s very detail oriented and pays attention to very important basic skills like finger placement and body positioning. She provides great suggestions for practicing at home what she has taught. Very knowledgeable and patient. I highly recommend her.

Lorin was absolutely awesome. She took time to make my daughter feel comfortable and gave her the confidence since she needed in order for her to be the best she can be. She provided tips along the hour sessions and things to work on until the next time. We made an excellent decision and she is excited for the next visit.

She is a great tutor because she helps you figure out how you can fix your problem and perfects it.

So far so good. Very patient as mistakes after mistake was made. Corrected quite a few mistakes I was making so that my habits would be good habits from the start. Let me talk to myself as I messed up and complimented me when I was on the right track.

complete novice; adult student. First lesson very relaxed. Excellent blend through-out lesson of questions and information my goals and background as well as instructor's goals for me and his background. First "technical" part of lesson was manageable and care taken by Lyle to make sure I understood what was being presented. I left the first lesson feeling this would be a good fit between instructor and student

"Extraordinary talent, patient, detail-oriented, and great understanding of both flamenco and classic guitar theory and execution. I have known Edward for seven years now, and his guitar technique is exceptional.

I also called Edward when I was choreographing a play at MiraCosta College and needed a guitarist to create the music for the play and perform it live. He is extremely creative, a problem-solver, and team-player. I couldn't ask for a better person to do the job."

"An accountable and professional teacher. First, the course set is rational. Sophia usually chooses appropriate pieces which match with the actual level of me. For example, the difficulty level is step by step, which makes me confident and very willing to have classes each time. In addition, she is also good at perceiving my lost points, and is patient to give me efficient direction on how to do better! Really hope more students can reach her out, and explore your own potential on music!"

"Within the first lesson it was obvious how much Scott is passionate about playing music and helping other musicians succeed. What I really liked about Scott was that he didn't beat around the bush when it came to finding areas that I could improve upon, but in the same respect, he made sure he celebrated the successes and progress being made. That's the kind of teacher that can motivate someone to improve and feel fulfilled after the hard work being put into a craft. I unfortunately had to stop taking lessons due to outside circumstances and if I got the opportunity I would take more lessons with Scott."
