Dr. Cliff believes that, although many professors and teachers do an admirable job in the classroom, many students and children do not learn well in traditional institutions. Many students and children don't respond to the assembly line nature of most institutions. He believes that a student's or child's strengths and natural abilities need to be the foundation of learning. Dr. Cliff often warns against a "cookie cutter" approach to educating students, teenagers and children. You or your child is seen as an individual, and natural strengths are identified and built upon. Therefore, individual one-on-one tutoring or help is the key approach to each student who has any challenges difficulties in a given subject.
In today’s environment and economic challenges, with shorter budgets for the education, larger classes sizes and pressure of performing well in all kind of standard tests, I often see many students lacking true knowledge and skills in a given subject, since they cannot get individualized attention during the class session. That’s where a tutor comes into the picture, not only uncover major “holes” in students’ knowledge set but also teach students how to study, how to learn and through proper guidance “fill” those knowledge and skills holes.

I'm a graduate of UCLA School of Engineering with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. I have a passion for explaining how the physical world works through math and physics along with 10 years of tutoring experience in those subjects, test prep, and mentorship programs. The teaching strategy I believe in emphasizes subject fundamentals, a powerful and necessary tool for higher problem solving. This strategy has proven effective regardless of the student's educational background or mental ability. Besides being knowledgeable, I am motivating, caring, and patient in guiding your student to academic success!
Executive Functioning is a separate realm that tutoring can assist in. It deals with cognitive processes including organization, time management, and study skills. Much of the difficulty students face in academic subjects can be attribute
d to the lack of executive functioning. They either cannot keep up with the pace and workload that advanced courses demand or haven't figured out the best way to study for themselves. I am able to assess a student's shortcomings and formulate a plan for higher achievement.
I have 11 years previous tutoring experience in a variety of subjects such as Algebra I, Algebra II English, SAT, ACT, MS Excel, MS Access, MS word, GRE, Geometry.
Overall, I have been very academically successful myself. I enjoy helping students understand difficult concepts. I am also very patient with my students and won't give up until we've accomplished our goals.
I've achieved such items as valedictorian of my high school class, National Honor Society, Who's Who Among American High School Students, Distinguished Graduate Student of the Year at Robert Morris University, Alpha Chi National Honor Society, Alpha Iota Mu Honor Society, National Dean's List, and a 4.0 GPA at the Bachelor's and Master's level.
Great! I learned quite a bit and my instructor is fabulous!

I really hit JACKPOT with Joanne. Joanne is very technical, yet explains things in a manner to make you understand. I had a great first session with Joanne and look forward to many more, as my budget permits. She helped me with exactly what I needed help with and taught me a few things in the meantime.
***It is recommended students own or have regular access to a personal computer after 2002 in order to get the best benefit***The standard, landmark program for creating, processing, and editing texts with dynamic visual and macro integration. I have used it for many years during my education and professional experience.
Possibly the only dedicated PhD for E-Learning on the TakeLessons server, I am member of the Association for Language Learning, located in Leicester, UK.
***ADDRESSES WITHIN REMOTE AREAS (no public transit or bicycle access) DIFFICULT TO SERVICE PHYSICALLY. Lesson cancellations and schedule changes need to be submitted through Takelessons.com student website, relieve busy teacher from multiple informal requests***
My style and attitude toward teaching is a balance between subject delivery and reflective, supportive interaction. I seek to enable current research on education for busy, yet goal-driven student interests. This is done through customized online lessons coordinating the experience with optimal resources and tools: ESL and Speech students learn to monitor their own phonological issues with dedicated software/feedback, guiding German students through conversational dialogues, and ensuring relevant resources for Excel and related productivity lessons.
Due to my limited funds
, I do not have direct experience with the Adobe suite, but I have extensive knowledge of related, free distributions that are transferable. Possibly the only PhD on Takelessons server from a regionally accredited university, I am a member of the American Council on Foreign Language Learning and the Association for Language Learning. My most popular subjects are as follows:
North American English Pronunciation Practice for ESL (NAEPP-ESL) or Accent-Reduction: *****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 recordings, and about 50 GB onedrive folder for lesson files*****
Carefully following Burkkowsky's (1969) multi-media method, I have taught this subject for over five years for public and private causes, such as library, individuals, and language schools. German Language and Culture: *****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recordings and about 50 GB onedrive folder for lesson files*****
Microsoft Excel: ***It is recommended students own or have regular access to a personal computer after 2002 in order to get the best benefit***

Dr. Gokcedag has been able to identify and target very specific problems in my speech. His method is very effective. He is an excellent teacher!

Among the accent reduction teachers that I had before, Erol is the only one who actually could find the problems in my accent! The program he uses is very useful. The way he explains things or exaggerates the mistakes will help me to correct my accent. Overall, an awesome experience and I would totally recommend him to anyone.
I work with computers (Windows / Mac) for almost 20 years. Expert in office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, Numbers, Keynote).
Started early to use Excel for business and created sheets for an executive of a big German Company when I was 19.
I work as a tutor and mentor in many of those fields for years. It was and is a side business, but I always enjoyed teaching. I am looking forward to move on with you and / or your kids. Have a great day, Marcel
Update 02/10/15: Takelessons is a great way to teach and a fantastic and easy way to learn for students. I currently have 3 students per week, with several hours. I really enjoy it, either online via Skype or Facetime or Live at the students place. Hit me up and let's move something together.
I learned a lot from Marcel and liked his vision of how to redo the garden. The original garden was cluttered with overlapping plants and we discussed how to improve it. He pulled out his iPad and made several garden sketches that were helpful. The original garden was cluttered with overlapping plants and we decided to remove several of them and re-"orchestrate" the remaining ones. (We only bought new plants if they were needed to realize the new garden vision.) He is also a very hard worker, helping me (physically) transplant and add plants as required. For example, we transplanted a 100+ (?) pound Sago palm across the front yard. I would never have done that on my own (too heavy for me) but together we did it! Highly recommended. Bill

Excellent teacher. We took a 20'x2' section of "dirt" in the back, redid the soil, transplanted a rose in that section, added two other new roses and a bunch of ground cover. Looks great! Recommended.

I did not actually take any lessons with him, but his schedule did not reflect what showed as available in Takelessons. He had a very bad attitude and would not actually schedule the lesson after several exchanges.
Microsoft Word is a simply beautiful program filled with all sorts of functions, tools, and options. Whether it be typing up an essay, a flyer, or song sheet, Microsoft Word is a loyal friend worth knowing!
Hello! My name is Austin, and my personal life motto is: doing my best to help others realize and reach their best! I have been teaching a number of topics ranging from music, fitness, to technology, writing, and religious texts for over 7 years. Over these years, I have also worked a myriad of jobs to receive invaluable experience as well as learn how to interact with all kinds of people.
It has always been my deep passion and true joy to journey along with someone who is simply willing to learn the many gifts that life has for us to enjoy! I am currently studying for my masters at Western Seminary, interning at a church, and a certified teacher here at TakeLessons.
Time and time again, I have come to realize that life is about serving, teaching, and loving others with what we already have; teaching is such a simple yet profound
way to practice this!
I look forward to doing my best in order to help you realize, reach, and ultimately relish your best!
My son enjoyed his first lesson with Austin and we hope there are many more to come!

Austin is an excellent instructor. He was very patient with me and helped me to work on the areas that I felt needed the most improvement, developing new techniques and skills to take my game to a higher level. I highly recommend!

Ashwini assumed that I was married upon meeting her, and asked me when I was getting married as soon as she learned I wasn't married. She also asked where I was getting married, even though at the time I wasn't engaged. Even when I made it apparent I wasn't engaged, she continued to refer to my boyfriend as my fiance.
She would send me political things going on in India, even though I have no interest, and it has nothing to do with the lessons I was taking from her. She asked me if my boyfriend was voting, and many personal things that shouldn't be asked of a student learning Hindi.
She often moved my scheduled time around without asking, which meant that I needed to move my schedule around in order to attend her sessions.
As a teacher she was pretty good, but some things disappointed me there too. For instance, I made a sentence in which a jeweler was a woman, and she stated that can't be correct, because there are no woman jewelers. I'm a woman engineer, and it's really sad to see such a sexist thing. Even when I attempted to ask about how you would say something about a woman jeweler, she said it was impossible. Later she said nurses could only be woman.
