This style stresses ease, purity, evenness of tone production and an agile and precise vocal technique. This can be applied to any genre of Music. In my piano lessons, I teach Suzuki, Faber and Keith Snell methods. These methods focus on dexterity, proper fingering, positioning and fluidity. I also emphasize making beautiful sounds with proper body mechanics. I start the lessons with vocal and piano warm-up exercises such as scales and drills. I make these methods fun and easy to learn. After 3-6 months you will be able to read music, sing the songs you would like to learn, and perform in a recital or personal venue.

I am interested in teaching you what you need and want to learn so that you achieve your dreams. Please note that I only take serious students who will practice at least 30 minutes every day or 35 a day 6 days a week at home. I would like you to keep a log of how much you practice. This will enable you to make progress through the curriculum as you will be a beginner for the first 3.3 years, an intermediate for the next 3.3 years, and then an advanced student for 3.3 years. I will give you assignments to do over the week, and the next week we will go over them, learn something new and get new assignments. It takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert!

My main musical styles that I perform and teach are Pop, Rock, Folk, and Americana/Country but I also have a background in Musical Theater. I was born and raised in Los Angeles but I've just recently relocated to the Bay Area. I am a Professional Musician/Songwriter/Vocalist teaching songwriting, voice, and performance technique as well as a combination thereof. I began singing at a very young age for anyone who would listen (so my parents tell me) and began taking music lessons shortly thereafter. I am now a USC graduate and have also studied music privately for over 25 years as well as at the esteemed Vocal Power Institute. I am easy-going, friendly and I believe that developing a great student/teacher rapport is the key to making the most out of the time we spend together. The curriculum I utilize is specifically designed to meet the student's individual needs. Initially we'll spend time assessing where you are and where you'd like to be. Most importantly, we'll set goals and create a lesson plan that will allow you to attain them. We'll work on basic techniques (or intermediate to advanced depending on skill level), for example - breath support, vowel placement, posture, relaxation, the fundamentals of song structure and music theory. We'll also work on the psychology of performance and eliminating any unwanted tension that may arise. We'll choose songs to work on that you'll enjoy singing, or analyze the songs you love in order to discover and/or improve upon your own songwriting abilities.

Our girl has a lot of raw talent but needed some good instruction that wasn't too formal. Africa is just the right blend of traditional singing technique and fun rock-n-roll, record your own music on Garage band. We love her!

Liz is great!

I'm quite nervous when it comes to singing and Liz is managing to put me more at ease with me and my voice. She is very amiable, gracious, and knowledgeable. She does her best to help me find my voice and points out where I could improve without making me feel awful or pressured. In just the few lessons I've had with Liz, I think I've made some great improvements that I can hear and feel when I sing, with Liz being enthusiastic about trying to push the boundaries of my voice gently while assisting me in reaching my full vocal potential.

I love to sing, and I have a passion for teaching students to sing well. I have sung in choruses all my life, and have been inspired by fine conductors and great composers. Of utmost importance to me is that every student learn to read music, and develop an understanding of music fundamentals. The level of sophistication will depend upon age and experience, but learning good musicianship is essential. ABOUT ME:

Deborah R, is a versatile Mezzo Soprano having studied Opera, Theater, Music and Dance she is known for her exciting, high energy performances and for creating memorable and endearing characters. With a uniquely flexible voice, as comfortable in Verdi as it is in Rossini, she has delighted audiences around the world with her rich timbre and sparkling coloratura.
From her beginnings as a young musician in the San Francisco Bay Area, she has toured internationally, with a variety of musical ensembles in concert halls such as: Santori Hall in Tokyo, Disney Hall with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall. Most recently, Ms. R was a featured soloist at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing where she performed with the Peoples Liberation Army Orchestra. She has given recitals in Mexi
co and across the United States, giving voice to her research into the lesser known Art Songs of great Classical composers.
In the summer of 2008, she created the role of Principessa Louling under the baton of Bruno Riggacci in the World Premier of his one act opera €œDodici personaggi in cerca di voce.” Some of her opera credits include Cendrillon, Die Fledermaus, Hansel and Gretel, Griffelkin by the late great Lucas Foss and West Coast premier of the new opera Miss Lonelyhearts. With Orchestra she has performed Handel’s Messiah and Brockes passion, Durufle’s Requiem and this past summer, she was the featured soloist with the Capriccio Chamber Orchestra in their toast to Vienna.
Ms. R is the recipient of several awards including the Schoenfeld Award from the Holt Memorial Scholarship Competition and 1st place in the Pacific Musical Society Competition made famous by its first winner, violinist Yehudi Menuhin.
Ms. R holds a Master of Music Degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with international opera diva Mignon Dunn, and a Bachelors from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music. She has performed in Masterclasses with Karen Morrow and Luana Devol. She is also a featured vocalist on several independent film soundtracks.

I was pretty nervous about taking a singing lesson, as it's something I've never done in my life. I'm so thankful I got connected to Deborah. She's a fantastic teacher and taught me so much about how our body works to produce sounds when singing and what I am doing. From the first lesson I was already given helpful tips and ways to practice things on my own! I'm looking forward to more lessons with Deborah.

Singing has been my passion since the age of 4. The voice is very special - it empowers us to live the lives we desire, communicate with others, and express ourselves. It is my mission to help others discover and develop their voices, thereby freeing them to use it as they choose.

Beyond the functional voice, I teach performance skills, musicianship, music reading, foreign language diction, phonetics, and so much more! I have a Bachelors in Music Education, a Masters in Performance, and a performance resume ranging from jazz to opera.

I love working with singers of all ages and experience levels. I know how to engage with children and adults alike for a productive, enriching musical experience, so whether you are a sings-all-the-time 2nd grader, a recreational karaoke buff, a devoted choral singer, or an operatic baritone, you have a place in my studio.

I'm so happy to meet you! My name is Paige, a California transplant from Texas by way of Tennessee. I've taught since 2007 and enjoy teaching singers of all ages and experience levels.

I have a Bachelors in Music Education with a K-12 certification in Vocal Education, as well as a Masters in Performance. I have a strong musical background, having sung in the Texas All - State Choir, University Interscholastic League, and National Association of Teachers of Singing.

When I am not teaching, I actively perform in the Greater Bay Area, singing jazz, choral music, and opera.

I access singing and speaking through movement and resonance. We discover the way your body moves freely, opening up the breath and getting it to flow freely. Then we discover how to access your resonance with that freely flowing breath. Singing and speaking comes easily from there. Lessons with me are a combination of yoga class, anatomy lesson, and actually making sound. I find that if we see our voices as another part of the body that we're training, we see that singing is a movement technique, and looking at it that way actually gives us the freedom to make art with it.

About Gwendolyn
I'm an opera singer with seven years of stage experience in Germany and the US, including top houses like the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Komische Oper Berlin, Konzerthaus Berlin, and, since moving to the Bay Area, I have worked with Opera San Jose and Lamplighter's Theater. I have a MA in singing from the University of the Arts (UdK) in Berlin, and I have taught others to sing since 2014.

I am also a 200 Hour Certified Yogalign teacher. Yogalign teaches the body how to come into natural, functional, comfortable alignment and strengthens it to stay there. I use it while teaching voice, but I also love to teach it on its own.

In voice lessons, I constantly incorporate alignment practices because we use our whole bodies to produce sound. A free breath, which means good alignment, is the foundation of good voice technique.

I believe
that singing is a movement practice like any other. When we move our legs and feet properly, we move through the water, and we call that swimming. When we use our breath and our resonance properly while our vocal chords vibrate, we call that singing. It is all a matter of coordination, one we either naturally understood in childhood, or one we must be taught. It is my joy to guide people to this knowledge of their voices.

With public speakers, my goal is to help people feel at home in their bodies and command the room with their voices while giving presentations. I have given seminars teaching scientific researchers in Berlin and Potsdam, helping them to present results in ways that are both informative and inspiring.

I am fluent in German, having spent two intensive summers at the prestigious Middlebury College Language School, getting top training in the ins and outs of German grammar. That preparation, the tricks and tools I learned there, paved the way for the fluency I acquired while living in Germany for ten years. I am happy to help beginners learn the tools I learned to help get them on their way auf Deutsch.

Students in each area can expect to progress steadily week to week, provided they do the assigned exercises in between. The voice, the body, and language skills are all muscles we must train daily to expect any progress.
