In my lessons, I review the student's objectives and build my lesson plans around these goals. I make learning fun. I emphasize dedication and committment to the lessons and practicing. I teach the fundamentals of Music with a practical and easy-to- lear
n approach. I teach technique, expression, creativity, varied musical repertoire that is based on the student's interests. I coach a style of singing called bel canto. This style stresses ease, purity, evenness of tone production and an agile and precise vocal technique. This can be applied to any genre of Music. In my piano lessons, I teach Suzuki, Faber and Keith Snell methods. These methods focus on dexterity, proper fingering, positioning and fluidity. I also emphasize making beautiful sounds with proper body mechanics. I start the lessons with vocal and piano warm-up exercises such as scales and drills. I make these methods fun and easy to learn. After 3-6 months you will be able to read music, sing the songs you would like to learn, and perform in a recital or personal venue.

I am interested in teaching you what you need and want to learn so that you achieve your dreams. Please note that I only take serious students who will practice at least 30 minutes every day or 35 a day 6 days a week at home. I would like you to keep a log of how much you practice. This will enable you to make progress through the curriculum as you will be a beginner for the first 3.3 years, an intermediate for the next 3.3 years, and then an advanced student for 3.3 years. I will give you assignments to do over the week, and the next week we will go over them, learn something new and get new assignments. It takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert!

I was born and raised in Los Angeles but I've just recently relocated to the Bay Area. I am a Professional Musician/Songwriter/Vocalist teaching songwriting, voice, and performance technique as well as a combination thereof. I am easy-going, friendly and I believe that developing a great student/teacher rapport is the key to making the most out of the time we spend together. The curriculum I utilize is specifically designed to meet the student's individual needs. Initially we'll spend time assessing where you are and where you'd like to be. Most importantly, we'll set goals and create a lesson plan that will allow you to attain them. We'll work on basic techniques (or intermediate to advanced depending on skill level), for example - breath support, vowel placement, posture, relaxation, the fundamentals of song structure and music theory. We'll also work on the psychology of performance and eliminating any unwanted tension that may arise. We'll choose songs to work on that you'll enjoy singing, or analyze the songs you love in order to discover and/or improve upon your own songwriting abilities.

Our girl has a lot of raw talent but needed some good instruction that wasn't too formal. Of utmost importance to me is that every student learn to read music, and develop an understanding of music fundamentals. The level of sophistication will depend upon age and experience, but learning good musicianship is essential. At the same time, opportunities for creativity to develop through improvisation could be on the horizon for you. It is important to me that you want to learn and and want to become the best you can be.

My 10 year old son loves playing little riffs on the piano but really didn't want lessons for fear it would be too much like school. Peter has been awesome about tailoring the lessons so that my son can choose the Music he likes and move forward from his place of interest. Peter is a skilled and gifted pianist, and my son is totally inspired to keep playing and put in the work to improve.

I have been working with Peter for a little over a year and although I'm moving away, I will be continuing my sessions with him over video. Over the past year, I've had the most incredible mentoring experience with Peter and would highly recommend him to students of all ages. I used to play piano as a kid and quit when I was in middle school, and Peter has helped me regain, maintain and build on my skills. He takes measures to keep me accountable in my practice and also nurtures and encourages me creatively -- his experience as a composer comes in handy and we have dope jam sessions. In addition to his musical teaching practice, Peter is also training in somatic and trauma healing modalities that infuse his work with students with care and attunement. I know some parents who work with him keep him around their kids as a life coach and buddy as well as a music teacher. He's the best and I will miss seeing him every week in person!

Students will gain a deeper understanding of their voice using techniques and pedagogy in order to manage breath, gain resonance, sing with clear diction and perform with stage presence. About Brandan
A baritone with over 10 years of performing as a soloist and in numerous ensembles, Brandan has had experience with a wide variety of genres including musical theater, classical voice, opera, jazz, and pop.

He has performed roles with the SJSU Opera Theater and solo works, including the Fauré and Brahms Requiem, both with San Jose Staté University. In the summer of 2015, he appeared with the Symphony Silicon Valley in R.V. William’s Serenade to Music and in 2016 he performed Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass with the Ireland Chamber Orchestra. Most recently he joined Peninsula Cantare as a soloist in the Carmina Burana and Mozart Vespers.

In addition to classical and opera, Brandan has performed roles in a number of musical theater productions including Les Miserables, Little Shop of Horrors, Bye Bye Birdie, and Lil' Abner. In addition, he p
erformed with the award winning vocal jazz ensemble Syncronicity from West Valley College. While at San Jose State University, Brandan founded and music directed the co-ed pop a cappella ensemble, The Spartones.

I take a serious pedagogical approach, tailoring exercises and repertoire to the individual student. Kevin Schwenkler began his study of music on the piano at the age of 8, followed by clarinet and voice in his early adolescence. He has classical, jazz, folk, and pop training on these instruments. Kevin holds a B.A. from Hampshire College, where he studied music- primarily classical singing- and mathematics. During his undergrad, he began to seek and employ a musical pedagogy combining stimulating, consistent practice and the simple joy of living musically. Kevin also holds an M.A. in music composition from Mills College, where he continually concerned himself with pedagogy through his position as a musicianship teaching assistant.
