Using the classic European Atelier Style of teaching, I start all students with basic drawing, tone and color theory before embarking on either water color or oil painting. This is to ensure that the students have a solid foundation upon which to apply color to achieve the desire d effects. No amount of pretty color will make up for a poorly constructed work. Students learn to create dimensional illusions by understanding the principles of perspective, light and dark and various techniques.

I love to have fun. For me, learning is a great source of fun. My goal is to make the process of your learning music fun while effective. I do have high standards for participation. I do not ask anything of you that I haven't done myself. I know, from many years of experience in performing and teaching, what it takes to make progress in a learning curve, Are you excited? Are you dedicated? Are you willing to jump in and get busy? I will give you the foundation of theory and technique to support your performance. I will expand your understanding and appreciation for music in its many styles and formats. No every other week or schedule as you go lessons, please.

I originally took her lesson because I had an audition for Christmas Carol, and I wanted to at least go over the song I was going to use. Instead, she gave me another song to sing for the audition. I have never been able to get in a show where singing is the main dish; however, after her advise with the new song, I was thrilled to see an email from the casting director when I was chosen to be in the show! I can never thank enough her for this. :D

I teach sketching, painting (watercolor, oil and acrylic) to children 5-10 years of age as way to release stress, gain confidence, and express themselves!
All materials are provided, but students are welcome to bring their own brushes, paints, paper, etc. if they so desire.
My instruction extends nationwide, with students from all corners of the US, utilizing online tutoring services such as Skype.
My main field of study is in MATH (trig, algebra, geometry, precalculus), CHEMISTRY (high school and college), and PHYSICS (high school and college).
I completed my Bachelors in Physics and Mathematics Education at Hunter University and have gained experience with both in-person and online group instruction and curriculum development.

I do Regents and SAT/ACT prep for these subjects as well as the GRE (These are NYS based High School Preparatory Exams - do not hesitate to ask should you need assistance with the ones offered in your state/country).
In addition, I am thorough and meticulous, by paying special attention to how the student grasps information and retains it, and prepare individualized handwritten reviews, with supplemental material found online and in texts.
I assign homework to keep my students ahead of what is going on in class, and a visual and intuitive understanding of the concepts I present is important to me, so I use visual aids (diagrams and virtual art) to help my students integrate what they learn with me in real life situations.
My instruction includes those with a gap in going back to school/university. I start with an assessment based on what the student has trouble with or remembers last covering in school, and prepare material going from there.
As a result, my students all have improved grades without any need for cramming before tests, and I encourage a stress-free and easygoing learning environment.
My lessons are fun and enthusiastic - these subjects are beautiful and will help open your mind to new ways of thinking - whatever your field of study!

I see marked improvements in their grades for this past year, and my eldest is actually skipping fourth grade as a result of lessons. I am astounded as to my girls' progress, and greatly appreciative of our tutor's expertise.
Her patient, methodical approach to teaching is why I see us remaining with her for all of our educational instruction. She has already taught arithmetic to my youngest (3rd grade), and algebra to my eldest (starting 5th this sept!), and is proceeding with more advanced math with no issue whatsoever. In my classes you can expect to learn both the basics and advanced material:
-Painting realistic skin tones, composition,using a grisaille and verdaccio, glazing, methods and materials of the Old Masters, achieving a likeness in portraiture, accurate color mixing and matching, the use and preparation of painting mediums, translating what you see or envision onto the canvas successfully and much more. I began drawing in three dimensions at the age of two (it was a stuffed panda bear doll if you must know). I am a keenly visual person, and began winning awards in art in elementary school, and eventually went on to become student artist of the year in New York state while a sophomore in high school. That same year I had a show in a gallery in Manhattan. The following year I made my own short animated film and was hired by a private academy to do all their creative print marketing. My approach to teaching art is similar to my approach to teaching communication. Sometimes art is about telling a story. Often it can be about making a point (even if that point is just about beauty or dysfunction, or beauty in dysfunction). But whatever its purpose, art is *always* about seeing, with more than your eyes. Regarding Math, some people are naturally good at math and some are like deer in the headlights. Studying Physics, Engineering, and Architecture at M.I.T. meant learning and doing *lots* of math. I find the greatest delight helping those who aren’t naturally good at math learn to appreciate and conquer it in the context of their regular, day to day lives. My greatest accomplishment in this respect has been teaching one of my daughters who hates math to embrace it as a wonderful, dependable, and mysterious, faith-building part of life. My approach is to make math real, that is, to connect math to life so that not just how to do it, but why doing it, is valuable and makes sense.

While I teach lots of different styles, techniques, and media (including pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, pastels, watercolors, acrylic and oil painting, graphic design, and print forms, among others), this fundamental how you perceive approach to the creative process is what I strive to teach when I teach art.
Regarding the Bible, I have been an exhaustive student and teacher of the Bible for 32 years and would welcome the opportunity to help you either learn it, teach it, or both (which is what often happens). Nothing that I have taught in my life is as important as the truths and life lessons I have learned and taught from its pages. It is scary and funny and crazy and tender (among many things) but most of all it is more than what most of us have heard (especially in church), and it will change us if we let it. Our studies would include language, history, culture, geography, and even science, combined with lots of thought provoking questions, and creative insight. We won’t shy away from the difficult topics that often cause doubt or division, but we will certainly avoid the canned, off-the-shelf answers that do more harm than good in helping people digest this book. This is not a safe class. If you already think you have a pretty good handle on the Bible, then this class is probably not for you. But if, like me, something about the profession and practice of Christianity around you seems terribly off, or missing, then this may be exactly what you’re looking for. Expect that much of what you thought or believed (but perhaps never really read or studied) will likely be challenged. This is not an academic study, but rather an upfront and personal interaction with The Truth.

As in, two plus two equals five, sort of bad. Okay, maybe not that bad, but still... ;-) Mark helped make math easy and understandable for me, in a way that textbooks or even lectures (regardless of how "good" they might be) can't. Many people have head knowledge, and are labeled as a teacher because of their textbook understanding, but the real test for a good teacher is how to transfer that head knowledge to another person in an easy, understandable and fun way. Mark does all that and I believe more in everything he teaches. He has mastered how to reach every person on the level they're at and explain not only what they are trying to learn, but also the "why" behind it.
He is not just a one trick pony either. I've heard him speak on many occasions, and each time, regardless of what he's speaking about he sounds deeply passionate and thoughtful.
I also enjoy acting, (not necessarily as a career, but I have done a few productions here and there) and often times a character I will be representing will need an accent to distinguish it. Mark can pick up just about any accent and guide you into mastering it. The longest it has taken me to learn at least the basics of an accent under his guidance, has been two days. Now that doesn't mean everyone will have a perfectly mastered accent in that same time, but it does say something about his abilities as a teacher.
All this to say, I believe one of the best qualities of a truly great teacher is the ability to be a student, and be humble enough to learn themselves. I think the proof of this quality is very evident in Mark's varied abilities, and I would highly recommend him to many.

I have advanced realist techniques similar to Bob Ross in watercolor and in oil intermediate abstract techniques. Focus will be primarily on brush stroke practice and on color mixing. Also offered is face painting. Can also focus on speed painting for intermediate level painters (beginners shouldn't try speed painting, brush stroke techniques need to be comfortable with before beginning). I have a lot of meditating practices and games to build these skills as well as creativity.

Acrylic , watercolor, and oil painting will be the focus of my lessons, starting off with basic technique building and understanding the materials. After the student can handle the materials, we will practice making paintings of still life, and move forward through painting subjects chosen by the student.
My lessons are practical and therapeutic. Art shouldn't cause stress! Let's make art!
Through my own education and experience in teaching, I have learned the most important concepts my students learn are 1) determination, or the willingness to move forward despite setbacks, and 2) the "actual" skills of painting, drawing, sketching, portrait art, still life, and figure drawing.
