I believe lessons should be fun and expansive journeys. I enjoy truly connecting with each student in a light, enjoyable atmosphere.

Lessons are tailored to meet each student where they are at, while still pushing them at a rate that inspires them. Positive reinforcement and constructive feedback are always used, while negative criticism is not.

I specialize in teaching proper harp technique designed to allow the player to play for a lifetime! If pain arises from playing students will never be asked to push through pain or discomfort. Rather, we will find a different approach that works.

Lastly, I love working with students on pieces they really love. No piece of music is off limits! We can make any song work on the harp!

About Pheobe

Hello, and thank you for considering me as a potential teacher! I truly love teaching and am grateful to work with each unique student. I began playing the harp since age six. While I am a classically trained pedal harpist, I have a strong background in jazz, pop, folk, and contemporary music a

Pheobe was really the best! I had no experience at all, not even with reading music but she had me caught up so quickly, it was so exciting! She focuses on good technique every step of the way and is so encouraging! There was never a question that she didn’t have an answer for, and I loved how much she cared. After only five lessons, I hope to see her again!

Harp:
A stringed musical instrument that has a number of individual strings running at an angle to its soundboard; the strings are plucked with the fingers. Harps have been known since antiquity in Asia, Africa and Europe, dating back at least as early as 3500 BC. The instrument had great popularity in Europe during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, where it evolved into a wide range of variants with new technologies, and was disseminated to Europe's colonies, finding particular popularity in Latin America. We will start by learning how to tune, seating and hand/plucking placement. I have an easy to follow technique where you will learn the strings, notes, how to read music, rhythms, plucking techniques, and songs. As the student advances theory and soloing will be incorporated.

Karen is an incredibly skillful teacher. She is very passionate about music and it easy to be comfortable with her. She shares her training and knowledge very clearly. The vocal exercises seem very unique and holistic for body and voice health. She is very encouraging, caring, and soul-uplifting. I feel like I have a new connection with my voice and all that is connected to using it... as an instrument and the journey is only just starting. 45 minutes went by so fast. I am looking forward to my next lessons.

I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there was no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!

Is it hard to learn a musical instrument? That’s usually the first question
people ask. My answer? Not at all! I teach music based on the Irish/Celtic tradition. First, you'll learn to play by ear, and then when you're comfortable with where everything is on the harp, we'll move on to reading notes. Playing in the Celtic tradition is heavily based on improvisation, and learning the freedom of what it means for the music to come from within you. Learning the harp is all about welcoming music into your life, and making it a part of you.

About Kathryn

Hi there! I am a professional opera and choral singer, pianist/accompanist, and Celtic harpist. I love all animals (especially dogs), and baking goodies for my friends, family, and students! I hold an MM in Voice, summa cum laude, from UCLA's Herb Alpert School of Music, and a BA in Music, magna

However, what makes Alexandra truly remarkable is her almost magical ability to instantly spark intrinsic motivation - and a love of music - in all of her students. "I started harp lessons when I was 8 years old, and neither my parents nor I ever thought about looking for another teacher. Pam Irwin's teaching style made it easy for me to learn many wedding songs, hymns, and classical pieces. This has led to numerous church performances as well as weddings and parties. I've been so blessed to have her as my teacher from the beginning all the way through the 12th grade. During my college freshman year, I won the talent show at Florida College playing the harp. She is well capable to take a beginner to the advanced level. She is patient, kind, thoughtful, and encouraging. I would not be the musician I am today if it weren't for her excellent teaching."

"I'm the person Fred is referring to. I have Anne to thank for making my dream of learning to play the harp a reality. I rented a harp from Anne and took lessons every 2 weeks. Her lessons were progressive making it easy to learn the next step (as long as I practiced). Soon I was playing real songs! Anne was patient, understanding, and knowledgeable not only about playing the harp and proper technique, but also about feeding and care of the harp and performance. While Anne is a professional (and a Grammy winner), she is also down to earth with a ready smile and laugh. If you have an interest in learning to play the harp, I highly recommend Anne!"
