Ear training is paramount when learning to play music. It is the tool that connects the ideas in our head to the instrument itself - allowing you to express yourself more accurately.

In comparison... Ear training is equivalent to hearing the words in your head the split second before you say them - allowing you to say the exact words you mean to say.

I have Certificate of Completion Music Field of Study. That means I got 12 college credits for music theory and 4 college credits for ear training.

Ear training is incorporated into all of my lessons, whether piano, flute, guitar, ukulele or music theory. We work on listening skills, improvisation skills, and matching skills with call-and-response and mirroring techniques.

Ear training is the first, and most important skill a musician needs. I have been learning and studying ear training my whole life, and it is a huge part of my life as a musician. From singing, to recognizing pitches, to writing out melodies I hear, to improvising - the basis of all of this is ear training. I strive to help students develop these skills as well.
