Christine specializes in vocal production, has a three-octave range and is adept at various character voices, accents and musical styles. She has sung in several musicals, wedding and church bands, and has given several solo performances since her childhood.

Christine also plays piano, rhythm guitar and percussion, and has served as a director, soloist and accompanist for several churches and community efforts.

*** Lesson Details ***
Making music and singing should be fun, and everyone deserves to have a great experience with the instrument that they can play for the rest of their lives. I take pride in guiding my students in exploring their potential in a safe, creative and non-judgmental environment. My students will learn to develop courage and confidence, grow their ears and appreciation for music in all its forms, and expand their range, power and musical skills.

Your lessons will be tailored according to your goals, dreams and personal motivation. I will offer you resources and show you how to use research as way to become independent when preparing your lessons, auditions and performances. If you are an aspiring guitarist/songwriter, I will teach you the basics of playing the guitar and offer you fun techniques to build those callouses, play rhythmically with confidence and coordinate your playing with your singing.

Whether you are completely inexperienced, naturally gifted, shy, ambitious about a professional career or just looking for an outlet that feels good, I believe everyone has a right to play and sing and to be encouraged by the joy of making music. You will not only learn technical skills and many tricks for beating stage fright and crafting a performance, but you will also learn to share your unique personality on stage, and learn to perform with feeling, heart and honesty.

Everyone has something beautiful and wonderful to offer the world and I look forward to meeting you and discovering your special voice and sound!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My lessons are conducted in my home. I have a keyboard, 2 guitars and recording equipment. If you have your own guitar and "accompaniment" (karaoke) CDs, I encourage you to bring those.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can do home lessons and would bring a guitar and/or a percussive instrument.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in singing, songwriting, voice, speech and acting. I also teach beginning lessons in guitar and piano. Other specializations: International Phonetic Alphabet, Accent Reduction, Musical Theatre, Classical Theatre (Shakespeare, Greeks), Movement Theatre (Mime, Period Movement, Stage Combat), Singing Styles (Jazz, Pop, Rock, Classical, Gospel, Musical Theatre, Sacred Chant).

Christine's passion & dedication for the love of music is the reason she's such an awesome teacher! She not only taught my 13 year old daughter guitar but she incorporated singing along with it which my daughter loved! Christine's wonderful personality and all her talents is the reason we chose her. I highly recommend her. She's gifted and we just love her!

Wonderful Singing & Voice Teacher!!!

Christine is a very friendly, positive, supportive, fun and patient teacher. My shy daughter immediately felt very comfortable with Christine from her very first lesson. My daughter always looks forward to her lessons with Christine, and she enjoys all the breathing, vocal and singing exercises. She has helped my daughter to feel more confident and to be a better singer. Thank you, Christine, for making my daughter's first singing lessons a very positive experience!! I highly recommend Christine to anyone!!!

Robyn J.

Knoxville, TN

About Robyn

I have been playing violin and viola for over 20 years. I hold Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music and teach assorted music courses at Pellissippi State Community College. I have taught children, teens, and adults; both beginners and continuing students. I learn where the student is skill-wise and we go from there. I also ask the student what his/her goals are, so that we have a set to-do list with which to work. Click the green button to get started!

*** Lesson Details ***
We will work at your pace--I will push you, but I am aware that everyone works at a different speed. I will lear
n that speed and work with you accordingly. I expect students to practice and do their best, but I also understand that life sometimes gets in the way. After a few weeks, you will know the basics of the instrument and be able to play recognizable tunes for your family and friends!

*** Studio Equipment - Parents ***
Music room/office with seating for parents/guardians in living room.

*** Studio Equipment - Students ***
I provide a music stand in my studio, but nothing else. My students should have an instrument with all accessories (bow, case, shoulder rest) and also a music stand for home practicing.

Robyn is fantastic, patient and kind! As an adult beginner, I thought this was going to be an impossible thing to learn. Although the violin is difficult, she makes learning fun and I feel like I have learned so much in just a few lessons.
I would recommend without a doubt!

Robyn James is an excellent viola teacher! She is patient, kind, extremely knowledgeable, understanding, and easily adapts to each student's individual playing style and ability. She is also very flexible when it comes to scheduling (especially if a scheduling conflict occurs). I've played the viola for 10 years and I had taken a small break from the instrument when I was introduced to Robyn in school. Since starting lessons with her almost a year ago, my confidence as a person and a player have improved and I have her to thank for it. She is always able to answer any and all of my questions, and if she doesn't have one right away, she does her research and gets back to me by our next lesson. She is very serious about what she does and you can tell how much she loves it. She also knows how to challenge her students in a way that is not overwhelming, and, as long as you come prepared and ready to learn and grow, she is one of the best teachers that you could possibly ask for. I look forward to seeing her every week. Robyn is the best!

Viola Lessons

I have played the viola from sixth to twelfth grade, but never taken a private lesson until signing up to take one at Pellissippi State Community College. From the first day of the lessons that semester until the last I looked forward to going to them. Robyn easy to get along with and an excellent teacher as well as violist and violinist. While I haven't had her as an instructor for violin using what I know from my viola lessons and having heard her play violin I would imagine those lessons are just as fun and fruitful as the viola lessons.

Will F.

Knoxville, TN

About Will

I teach guitar, drums and vocals to an array of students ranging from 10 to 60. Not only do I teach but I also write songs for certain students who have a desire to perform their own music as well as learning and honing their craft on their instrument. I am currently helping a vocal student of mine write some songs after scales and warm-ups and am working with one of my top guitar students tomorrow on different scale techniques. I just placed a drum student in the finals in Alternative Press Magazine's Hit Like A Girl competition. She was the top vote getter with 1,026 votes and is in the top
10 under 18 drummers in the world. I am also working with more and more students on songwriting and showing them different chords and ways to go about writing a song. I would love to get started with you as soon as possible and we will get you where you want to be musically. I find that if a student has a particular song or a rhythm pattern they want to learn they learn more quickly. They're learning and having fun at the same time. We will find what you want to learn and we will get it down! Furthermore, it's your choice if you would rather come to my place as a lot of my students do or have me come to your place as a lot of them do. I look forward to speaking with you! Cheers!

*** Lesson Details ***
I will get you started depending on your skill level. I usually, of course, see where we're at there and then decide what needs to be taught. With each respective student I usually make them a CDR the lessons for you so you can take them home and improve on what we've worked on.

I took violin from Miss Kristi for around three years before she moved to Knoxville and every lesson with her was a great one. Miss Kristi is relatable and funny and will make you feel comfortable during your lessons. She goes the extra mile for her students, encouraging them in their love for music. She's been an inspiration to me and she definitely helped me improve in many areas. Also, she can read music backwards and upside down!

Kristi Coughlin taught both of my children, aged 5 & 7, violin for about 3 years. She was an excellent teacher! She really worked hard to engage them. They thoroughly enjoyed her classes. She even took time to hand write music for songs they were interested in, so that it would be on their easy level. Kristi is extremely talented and has a tremendous knowledge of the violin and various other instruments. Her personality is very easy going and she creates a good learning environment.
