I've been teaching ESL for 20 years now and my students have gone on to love English and have improved reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, especially the difficulties in English pronunciation. I speak American English. Within the first few lessons you will learn new sentences and start learning how to have a conversation with native English speakers! Then you will go on to work on grammar, reading, writing, and listening skills. We will also focus on pronunciation and common words and phrases including slang. Soon you will be speaking like a native! I also specialize in Business English and English for Academic Purposes. So if you are looking for or have an English speaking job or business, or are in or looking to get into an English speaking University, I can help you! I typically use Practice Makes Perfect book series which are very reasonably priced and easy to find on Amazon or book stores. I also use multimedia such as podcasts, music, news broadcasts, stories, poems, newspapers, worksheets, games, and activities. I also make my own materials and worksheets specific to your needs. I love working with everyone from 14 years on up to older adults. I will find out exactly what you want to learn and why you want to learn English and then tailor lessons specifically for you and your goals. I use humor and am easy going. I believe we learn best when we are relaxed and comfortable so that is the environment I create. Also remember, mistakes are a great thing! They give us wonderful opportunities to learn! Hi there! My name is Stephenie. I have an extensive history of teaching a variety of subjects throughout my adult life starting in 1992 with violin lessons given in my home. I played classical violin throughout my childhood and early adulthood. I have also taught jewelry making at a local bead store and in my jewelry studio in my own home. Later, after getting my BA in Psychology and my education in early childhood education, I started teaching students from preschool age to adulthood in English as a foreign language, English reading, and English writing. I have also taught young children to read through the use of phonics, as well as teaching students with special abilities such as learning disabilities and ADHD. I also tutored adult learners in academic writing while I was getting my MPA, Masters in Public Administration, Non profit Management. I have had a varied career in social services and management, but throughout all of it, my love of teaching has been there. I could never stop myself from offering teaching and tutoring on the side. As I am older now, and wish to focus on what I really love, I am focusing again on teaching. I am teaching English as a second language, English reading and writing. I have a wide variety of interests and am a very creative person. I bring that creativity, my sense of humor, and my easy going personality into every lesson I teach. Learning should always be fun! My students have fun and learn so much at the same time. That is the key to good teaching. Not just what you learn, but how you learn, and how you feel while learning.
