Personalized tutoring in a 1:1 setting with a licensed and experienced Special Education Teacher!

As a special education teacher with 9 years experience certified in both California and Virginia, I’ve taught students from ages 8 to 14, across grades 3-8. I’m familiar with common core grade level learning standards for both language arts and mathematics. My personal learning style is a mix of visual and auditory, so I understand each student’s individual needs and believe in meeting you where you are to set you up for success at your own pace. I special in literacy instruction, and hope to introduce a passion for reading and writing to every one of my students. In mathematics, I incorporate real-world examples into lessons for students to develop their problem-solving and critical thinking skills in practical areas such as time and money management, as well as mastery of reading comprehension strategies through multi-step word problems. Let me work with you and help you reach your goals this year!

My philosophy on teaching is simple; every student can learn, and that starts with building trust and rapport between student and teacher. The most rewarding work I've ever done has been teaching children how to become better readers and writers, and more importantly to love reading what interests them. Music is my passion; music should be fun! I try to start my students off by learning a favorite song on day one, and then go from there. From tabs to sheet music, chords to scales, and treble to bass clefs... we'll take it one step at a time together!
