I am a certified ASL teacher and a certified Interpreter for the Deaf. I fell in love with ASL because of a woman interpreting at my church, and have continued to learn and experience Deaf culture as much as possible. Whether you are just beginning to learn the language or want to sharpen your skills, I want to make it fun and interesting for you. Many of my students have gone on to become interpreters, ASL teachers and Deaf Education teachers. I have also gotten a lot of feedback from other students who were able to use the language in other jobs (stores, restaurants, etc.). They were excited to be able to help someone communicate who otherwise would have had to rely on reading lips or writing notes. During my teaching career, I worked on curriculum writing committees multiple times at the district level. In an effort to incorporate new teaching techniques and update the curriculum, we worked extensively to maintain its relevance. I also served on the board of the Houston Area Teachers of Foreign Languages (HATFL) as the ASL chairperson for several years. I was elected President of the HATFL board, and served in that office for two years.

Sharon was able to determine what level I was at and just what I needed. She's very patient and willing to sign things repeatedly until I get them. She's also really friendly and personable. I signed up for weekly lessons immediately.

I have been fortunate enough to be taught by Mrs. Till for the last two years, and I can safely say that she is the best teacher I have ever had. She is very responsive and open to her students with any questions we may have, and she is connected and involved in the Deaf community and helps us be comfortable getting involved as well. She is able to teach ASL in such a way that makes students truly invested in learning, and this level of interest she invokes in her students has led her to produce many fluent signers, countless numbers of whom have gone on to pursue ASL in college and make it their profession. She has changed so many lives, and not only in people’s career paths, but also by forming personal connections with so many of her students. When she taught in school, her classroom was a safe place for so many kids who felt like they had nowhere else to go, and she became a motherly figure and support system for so many of us. I know that she will bring this kindness with her wherever she goes and to whomever she helps next, and I hope they appreciate what an incredible person and teacher they have been lucky enough to find in her.

Fundamentally changed my understanding of the language, I would not be anywhere close to where I am now without her help! Mrs. Till has an incredible fundamental understanding of the language, and can help you improve leagues regardless of your skill level.
