I'm a science lover at heart and I enjoy sharing my passion and knowledge with others! I recently graduated with a B.A. in Biochemistry and competed in several international science fairs while I was in high school, which generated much of my love for biology and learning. I also tutored and mentored various intro level college biology and chemistry classes/students, as well students working on AP chemistry and high school biology science fair projects.

Teaching since:

I have a passion for science, critical thinking, and teaching, and earned my B.A. in Biochemistry and Policy Studies from Grinnell College in 2016. I grew up homeschooling until high school age, and I believe being self-directed and self-taught much of the time, is what allowed me to truly love learning for the sake of learning. I often struggled in the confines of how science was taught in the public school system, and frequently found myself wishing I had better teachers who seemed more excited and invested in the topic than some of mine did. After attending college and getting to take sciences classes with some of the most amazing professors I ever had, I became extremely motivated to tutor and mentor fellow students as well as high school students, and share concepts and ideas that I had learned about and thought were extremely intersting. I saw clearly the difference that having a good teacher who was truly motiviated and invested in what they were teaching could make in the learning outcomes of students.

In addition to science, I also love music and traveling. I studied piano for about 12 years and taught a few beginning piano lessons several years ago. During college I studied abroad in South Africa for a semester, and while I was there I also worked with a small local tutoring company, helping grade school and middle school age children prepare for their science and math exams.

I enjoy working with students of all ages and levels, however I feel like high school and college level chemistry and biology is what I have the greatest base of knowledge and experience in. I especially love AP chemistry and college level general chemistry.

If you take lessons or get tutoring from me, I will teach in a very straight forward, big picture oriented, clear, and easy to understand way. I look foward to working with you!
