¡Hola!/ Ciao! My name is Samantha. I am a NYC based language teacher in both Italian and Spanish. I have experience teaching levels from corporate, to University , to college preparatory high schools! I have been teaching my unique language acquisition techniques around the world since 2010. I would be a great teacher (or coach) for you as I know where you are and where you need to be. I, too, am a non native speaker. So why pay me when you can get a native speaker for $20 an hour: because I know what struggles you have as a native English speaker and how to train your brain towards a path of potential fluency! Vocabulary cards and worksheets are not going to get you to enjoy a fluid conversation with a native at a caffe in Mexico City or in Rome. You need someone to walk you through the "false friends" and logic of idiomatic expressions while bringing you into immersion. I can help you do this! I gained mastery of these languages both from studying/living abroad and from my nearly decade of graduate studies at the Middlebury College Language schools (Masters and Doctoral studies done exclusively in the target languages) I began my career teaching in companies such as: Exxon Mobile, La Nación, and CABJ Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I taught English and Italian native Spanish teachers. I weaned them off their own languages in order to learn new ones. I went on to teach in Padua, Italy afterwards at the British Institute. In 2013, I began teaching Spanish and Italian at the University level. I taught college students ages 17- 65 techniques in order to introduce them to these languages. I taught at Mercy College, CUNY, and at Pace University. In 2018, I began my teaching career in Secondary Education at Xavier High School (an all boys Jesuit prep school.) I went on to teach Co-Ed at St. Edmund Prep, where I currently teach 160 young men and women Spanish 2&3 and IB Italian 1&2. I love helping my students think outside the box in order to grasp materials they may not have fully understood before. I also love helping my students speak and write in the languages with unique assignments of acting and creative writing. I love what I do! Let me help you reach your language goals.
